WMSU-SHS STORIES: Why Study Media and Information Literacy

Well why not right?

Our world revolves around technologies now even if you like it or not or if you agree or not.

It is very clear that this is true simply because people tend to use technologies in their everyday lives some examples are mobile phones, personal computers, laptops and televisions. Because of the advancement of technologies now it can be good to our society also it can be bad. Good in the sense that people can use social medias now to contact and connect with their loved ones that are not with them and students can do their assignments, projects, requirements and etc. with easier access to internet and office workers can do their proposals a lot faster and easier. It can be bad in the sense that because of having too advance technologies bad people tend to use this in their advantage to do crimes like cybercimes, phishing, libel or slander, steal identities, hack accounts and a lot more.

Department of Education (DepEd) included Media and Information Literacy for the betterment of our future and to give proper knowledge to the youths and students. Literacy can be described or it can be connected to the words read and write. By learning Media and Information Literacy we can have the ability or the knowledge to identify the different types of medias not only that but to also understand them deeper and thoroughly. We can also create our own. By learning or by having the knowledge about Media and Information Literacy our critical thinking skills will be improved not only that but also we can be a smart consumers of products and information, recognize point of views, create media responsibly and a lot more advantages.

That is why Media and Information Literacy is important to all people.

WMSU-SHS STORIES: Why do we celebrate "Buwan ng Wika"

Bakit nga ba natin ipinagdididwang ang "Buwan ng Wika"?

To me it's simple.

It is because, through celebrating it at least once a year, is our way of preserving our own language, culture and tradition here in our own country which is the Philippines.

Celebrating Buwan ng Wika is important to all of the Filipinos because in this event or celebration we get to see or witness the different cultures and traditions that we have here.

All of the schools in the Philippines celebrate this. In my schools before and now which is Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) there is always a program or event like having a competition of Balagtasan (Poetic Competition), Talumpati (Speech), Sabayang Pagbigkas (Speech Choir), Dagliang Talumpati (Impromptu Speech), Tagisan ng Talino (Quiz Bee), Paggawa ng Poster (Poster Making) and a lot more. One way is also having a competion by class like having the most presentable room which is related to Buwan ng Wika.

Another is also having a Pista sa Nayon by bringing any kinds of Filipino Delicasies, some examples are Bibingka, Puto, Kutsinta, Suman, Biko and many more.

There is also a traditional clothing here in the Philippines, the Barong Tagalog for men that is made out of pineapple fiber and the Baro at Saya for women.

With this said,

Importante ang pagdiwang ng Buwan ng Wika sapagkat kung hindi natin ito ipagdidiwang may posibilidad na maaari nating makalimutan ang sarili nating wika dahil sabihin man natin o hindi, ang bansang Pilipinas ay naiimpluwensyahan na ng maraming bansa at hindi malabo na mas tangkilikin ng ibang tao ang wika ng ibang bansa kaysa sa sarili nilang wika. Isa nang halimbawa ang mga tao na idolo ang k-pop mas tinatangkilik nila ang bansang Korea kaysa sa sarili nilang bansa na Pilipinas. Isa rin sa maaaring halimbawa ay ang mga Western Countries sila ang may pinaka malaking impluwensya sa ating bansa dahil nasakop na tayo noon ng isang bansa galing dito which is ang America at malaki ang naging impluwensya nila gaya na lamang ng mga ibang tao na mas gusto nilang gamitin ng wikang Ingles kaya sa wikang Filipino dahil mas maganda raw itong pakinggan kaysa sa tagalog o filipino.

Kaya dapat lamang na ipinagdidiwang ang Buwan ng Wika upang maalala, mapreserba at hindi makalimutan ng mga sambayanang tao ng Pilipinas ang ating sariling wika.

WMSU-SHS STORIES: The Life of a CSM-STEM Student

This is actually my first time posting on this social media app, but i guess that i will be updating this blog often. now I will be talking about the life of a CSM-STEM student.

Everyday I wake up I always wonder about what might happen this day, will it be stressful? will it be a fun day? and I always look up to seeing my friends because they are like my happy pill. After contemplating and imagining what might happen I prepare myself for school and i’m usually late on my first subject. At school, teachers would give us works that needs to be passed tomorrow or the day after tomorrow and not just that but sometimes they would also give us quizzes all at the same time and we would feel very pressured.

We are stressed because sometimes teachers would scold us, it’s not just the teachers but one cause of our stresses are people, specifically some of our classmates are, that is because some are very toxic which is for me, it’s hard to be with them. i would always tell to myself that i’m very tired already but I have no choice because I  have my own dreams and goals in life that for me to achieve all of it, i need to finish school first. 

On the time of our dismissal, I would go home again and do some household chores and then do my requirements, assignments and projects and then sleep then wake up again, it feels like i did not sleep at alI.

I look at myself at the mirror. My eyebags are very big I smiled to myself at the mirror to feel better about myself and saying I could dot his. The thoughts keeps rushing in again thinking that this again will be another day but the routines and happenings are just always the same.

I’ll go to school feeling nervous, thinking i’m not just there to learn but to also face the hazards.
