Atla live action spoilers
This? This moment right here? It means the WORLD to me🥹 (ive always wanted to see some more insight on the Iroh - Lu Ten - Zuko dynamic)

And then Zuko decided to stay there and sit by his uncle's side instead of leaving like Ozai

Iroh having the portrait and casket of Lu Ten, his son, to one side and having Zuko to the other... okok, that got to me🥹
Edit: and yes, the song that was briefly playing here was Leaves From The Vine🥹

Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam
Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Come marching home
Ash in the snow Falling so slow Like fragile broken hearts with no place to go
Little soldier boy Taken from home Forced to fight a war That was not his own
Little soldier boy Cold and alone Brave soldier boy Never made it home
Leaves from the vine Changing so slow Like empty fallen souls Looking for a home
Little soldier boy Thought he could soar Brave soldier boy Fallen in the war
My little soldier boy I need you home Brave soldier boy Come marching home

One of the many things that had me sobbing in the show is how they made Zuko’s fleet the 41st division. Meaning the division he spoke up for, the division that earned him his scar, is the division he was assigned for his goose chase. Imagine how heartbreaking it is. AND THE TEAM DIDNT EVEN KNOW HE DID THAT FOR THEM. MY BOY WAS ALWAYS GOOD!!!

Is the new avatar live action a perfect remake
No
Does it have a perfect scene of a random lady hitting zuko with a brush to stop him from trying to attack aang that wasn’t in the original
Yea and it was great

genuinely one of the worst things that’s happened to television in the last few years (exacerbated by streaming services) is death of Filler. going from 20 episodes to 8 because “we didn’t really need that episode where the main characters went to the beach right? it had no long lasting effect” but we DID!!! we needed to see how they act without the Big Bad Plot and to establish the dynamics between the characters and lay in the sun (do they forget sunscreen? how do they react to a thieving seagull? do they get buried in the sand or do they do the burying?). the plot isn’t everything. the action doesn’t hit as hard without the quiet moments. give us character development and our little scenes back

In an effort to be more optimistic and positive and not give into the hate train (as well as acknowledge that adaptations will never be exactly the same as the source material, and that’s okay), here are things I genuinely enjoyed in the ATLA adaptation. Spoilers ahead.
- The acting. I think all of the actors did the best with what they were given. In particular, Gordon and Dallas did a phenomenal job bringing Aang and Zuko to life, respectively.
- Yue. I know this is a more controversial take, but I liked what they added to her story. She has more agency and confidence, and I liked the deepened relationship between her and the Moon Spirit, as well as her connection to Sokka.
- Having the people on Zuko’s boat be the battalion that was set to be sacrificed in the war was an absolutely GENUIS change. A fantastic example of taking the source material and using the new medium to expand on the lore and worldbuilding.
- Episode Six. No notes. Amazing episode from start to finish. The show really shines here.
- Expanding the story of Lu Ten and Iroh was really cool. I liked seeing how Zuko reacted to Lu Ten’s death, and how it strengthened his bond with Iroh. That whole sequence made me cry, including the subtle orchestration of “Leaves from the Vine” in the background.
- Along those same lines, Iroh was amazing!! Paul Sun-Hyung Lee brought the spirit and cheekiness of Mako Iwamatsu no doubt!
- Seeing more of the past Avatars, like Kyoshi and Kuruk, was great. I think they could have been incorporated into the story a little better, but overall, they were a net positive. Kyoshi in particular really stands out.
- Gyatso. That’s it. Just Gyatso. Fantastic. No notes! Absolutely perfect!
- Putting the Mechanist and Teo in Omashu actually makes sense, in terms of streamlining some of the important storylines. Sokka and the Mechanist create the War Balloon, which eventually progresses into the air ships, so it was necessary to include that part, and we still get all of that with the change. Plus, Danny Pudi was perfect as the Mechanist. The only thing we miss with this change is Aang getting upset over the changes at the Northern Air Temple, but I think the overall story works without that element (at least for the live-action).
As I have time to digest the story, I might end up liking more of the changes than I think, but for now, those are the main points.

Seeing Ozai's "tears" made me hate him more. I know people say it's out of character for him and that so was Ozai praising Zuko for anything. But honestly, I don't think it was.
His tears reek of an abusive parent saying, "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you."
He has this narcissistic version of events where he is the one who suffered and sacrificed by hurting his son. But he admired himself for it because he thinks it was for the good of the Fire Nation.
As for him praising Zuko, it's very much to serve Ozai's own desires. He did it not out of genuine admiration but to keep Azula on her toes. Let her know that no matter what she has done for him over the years, he'll still choose Zuko if it suits his needs.

Okay so I just managed to finish watching the new live action ATLA series and all I see is people getting mad about changes and this and that but I’m here to talk about my FAVOURITE change made.
The 41st division that Zuko saved being his crew on the ship. I L o v e that to no end. Just the fact that Zuko saved their lives entirely and yeah they’re kinda banished with him but they would be dead otherwise and ahhhh my gods it’s amazing. I think it’s an amazing addition to the story and I’m glad it was put there.
Sure I didn’t agree with some of the other changes but keeping in mind that it’s difficult to adapt cartoon to live action and that a lot of the original episodes when the show was coming out were fillers I think they did well including as much as they could even if it was put in the background. Like that one pub scene you can hear a patron mention that the avatar defeated the canyon crawlers or something along those lines.
Cabbage man was incredible as always 🥬✨
