What I Think Pt. 2
lucien vanserra x reader
Part One
Lucien's response to your claims.
A/N: thank you all for the love and support with part one, it made me really excited to do part two! I hope you enjoy
Word Count: 645
Warnings: angst.
o-o-o
He didnât say anything for a moment. He didnât so much as move as you both stood there, eyes locked on the otherâs.
You thought you had won. That he knew you were right, that he couldnât think of anything else to say.
But then he leaned against the wall behind him. He smirked.
And you seethed.
âSo itâs me who has all the problems then, huh?â He began. âOh, Cauldron forbid I want to be helpful to those around me.â
âYouâre not helpful,â you spat. âYouâre a needy man in disguise, parading his way through the courts. Thereâs a difference.â
âYouâre not sacrificing,â he countered. âYouâre just a martyr. And a piss-poor one at that.â
You scoffed. âExcuse me?â
âNeed me to repeat myself?â
You rolled your eyes. âObviously not. But Iâm not a martyr.â
âReally?â He took a step toward you, that devilish smile still on his face. If it were appropriate, you would punch it.
Mother above, were you really betrothed to this man?
You werenât a martyr. You werenât looking for attention, for some sort of award for what you did. You did it because the court needed someone, they needed youâ
Oh Gods.
âYou want everyone to pity you,â he began. âThatâs why you said yes to this arrangement, wasnât it? Poor y/n, the girl stuck with the High Lordâs bastard sonââ
âStop it.â A fire began to form in your stomach, in your throatâ
âNot only that, but he was already mated. Too bad sheâll never know true loveââ
âI said stop itââ
âPoor y/n, and all the things sheâs done and sacrificed for this courtââ
âSHUT UP!â
You screamed the words, and Lucien was close enough that your noses were almost touching, that you were sure he could feel each of the heaving breaths you took.
You couldnât say anything, couldnât thinkâ
You needed to leave. You couldnât do this, maybe Lucien was right, you couldnât do this, you couldnât do thisâ
You didnât realize your back was against the door until you felt yourself reaching for the door handle. And once you had a hold of that, you left.
You werenât running, but you werenât walking, either, you were justâŠ. leaving. You had to get away. Get away from the situation, get away from the conversation, get away from himâ
Because he was right. At least, you thought he was right, and you didnât want to think about what it meant if he was right.
âY/n.â He called your name from down the hall. His footsteps grew louder the closer he became. It didnât stop you.
âY/n, waitââ
He reached you, grabbing your arm as he did.
âDonât touch me!â You cried, your voice more broken than you thought it was, than you wanted it to be, than you wanted him to hear it as.
He let go, almost immediately. You stayed still, unmoving. So did he.
You cursed that there was no clock in the hall, nothing to fill the silence between the two of you.
Finally, Lucien let out a sigh.
âLook, Iââ
âDonât try and tell me that you didnât mean what you said,â you told him. âBecause then youâll be expecting the same from me, and I canât offer you the same solace.â
More silence. Aching, noisy silence. You hated it. You wanted nothing to do with it.
Maybe you wanted nothing to do with any of this.
Without looking down, you slid the betrothal ringâ your one gift from Lucienâ off your finger. It was a beauty, truly, the woven thing of gold and diamond.
You held the item out to him, grasped between two fingers.
You didnât have the energy to try and decipher his change in expression.
âDo you want this?â You asked, voice tight and shaking. âNot symbolically. Genuinely, Lucien. Do you want this back?â

What I Think Pt. 1
lucien vanserra x reader
Part Two
A/N: ask and ye shall receive. An incomplete angsty-blurb, essentially Lucien has taken his place as heir to the Day Court and so he's betrothed... to you
Word Count: 517
Warnings: there is Lucien slander. And some angst. I'm sorry (not really)
o-o-o
âNot like me.â You breathed out a humorless laugh. âYou havenât sacrificed like I have.â
Lucien shook his head and let out a heartier and less humorous laugh. âSo then thatâs what this is really about? That you want some accolade for the things that youâve laid aside for the Day Court? Please, y/n.â He scoffed. âThe only person you can blame for that is yourself.â
You wanted to scream, wanted to tell him how he was wrong, how he didnât understandâ
He didnât understand.
He didnât understand.
âYou donât get it,â you whispered as you looked at the ground, your face softening with realization.
âWhat?â
âYou donât get it,â you said again, louder this time, your face hardening as you finally looked at him. âMy entire life has been spent devoted to this court. I would do anythingâ I have done everythingâ for these people.â You could feel tears beginning to pool in your eyes, yet you continued. âBut you donât get it. Youâre not from here. You donât think the same way we do, you donât care the same way we doââ
âI do care!â He exclaimed, and you could still see the way his shoulders tightened even with his arms crossed. âI care about this court; do you think I would be here if I didnât?â
âI donât think you would be here if it wasnât convenient for you!â You replied, your voice rising.
âOh, really? And what is it that you think, y/n?â
You didnât see him roll his eyes but you could hear it all the same in his voice. You took a step closer to him, your temper rising.
âI think,â you began, âthat when you were a young man, you fell desperately in love with a woman who desperately loved you back. I think that was the first time that anyone in your life truly saw you. And I think that when she died, and you fled to the Spring Court, that despite his flaws you still liked being Tamlinâs second in command because it meant he needed you.
âI think that when you found your mate, Elain, you were elatedâ as anyone would beâ but you especially so. Because it meant being with someone who would be desperate for you. And I think that if she hadnât shown such a strong disinterest, you wouldnât have begun trying to figure out whose bastard son you were. Because she would have wanted you. She would have needed you.
âI think that if Elain hadnât rejected the bond altogether, you would have never found your way to the Day Court and claimed your birthright. And I think you only wanted it in the first place because then, finally then, it would mean that there would be people who needed you. There would be people who looked up to you, who depended on you.
âI think, Lucien Vanserra,â you said, voice deathly quiet, âthat you want to be needed, and need to be wanted.â You shook your head. âAnd what an unfortunate circumstance that has landed both of us in.â
