My contest entry for Likemycat's contest! I found out abt this on the Magenta Diamond's Origin discord server n decided to draw smth for it cuz I rlly missed drawing gems for contests lol. I have not done this sort of thing in years!

Anyways so looking at the silhouettes of the gems I immediately imagined the blue gem as a lapis lazuli because of her haircut, so she was pretty easy to design! Though Thulite is where I had a bit of trouble-- I wasn't sure what she ought to be! So I just made up a totally new gem design I hadn't explored yet. I wanted both characters to have a sorta fairylike aesthetic to them since Lapis Lazulis always have wings & Thulite's hairshape is kind of winglike too. I'm not sure what they are to each other. Coworkers? Friends? Girlfriends? Whatever you want them to be I guess!

Stage 2-5, Pitch Mama's stage!

Pitch has gotten lost again, swept away by strong underwater currents after a mishap with some Squishys. He nearly drowned! Fortunately for him, Kine is adept at swimming against currents and has come to his rescue with Kirby and Gooey in tow.

Kine helps Gooey and Kirby navigate through the stage's underwater caves, but he must eventually leave them so they can free Pitch (cuz you can only have one animal friend at once). Before they separate, Kine seals Pitch in a bubble so he can breathe underwater (he's just a little guy! He can't hold his breath that long). The currents are strong and there are so many Gordos in the sea! Gooey swims ahead, pulling Kirby along with him with his tongue. It's very dicey, Kirby's afraid Pitch's bubble will pop!

In the end, Pitch is finally reunited with his mom! And she's so glad to see him again. Her canon name is Pitch Mama but I call her Picchi because it has a similar feel (it's just the Japanese name for Pitch) but its more of a proper name since her canon name is more of a descriptor. She and Pitch are very close, but she initially lost him after he learned to fly-- he's such a fast flier on his own and he's so tiny! She lost track of him! Picchi is a harpy just like he is, but she can transform into a human sized bird rather than a. bird sized. bird. you know what I mean LOL.

Regarding Gooey, you may wonder why he's fine sitting with his head underwater in the fourth image. His biology is... very strange. Because Dark Matter is a primarily space dwelling species, Gooey doesn't actually breathe. That's also why he has no inhale and merely uses his tongue to grab enemies. So when underwater, Gooey isn't really concerned about himself, but he is worried about Kirby and Pitch and wants to get them out as soon as possible. I guess this is a real character development moment for Gooey! They'd be screwed without him I think?

Fun fact, I almost died in this level when I played it! Which would've been terrible and it would've meant I would have to start aaaalllll over again since I would've lost Pitch! I also played it singleplayer, and that's why there's a Stone Kine drawing. I'm sure I've mentioned that I play this game in singleplayer before-- Gooey isn't REALLY there but I want him to be in these illustrations because he is very important to the story!! and to me. Gooey Is The Key To All Of This.

Kirby's Dream Land 3 stage 2-4, Gamugaeru and Kogamugaeru's stage!

Gamugaeru is the caretaker and custodian of the large temple the stage is set in! She and her daughter Kogamugaeru live there and take care of the place (Kogamugaeru doesn't do much now since she is very young, but she'll inherit it when she is older), making sure the temple stays clean and that the algae patches on the walls are well maintained/not overgrown. They're a pair of anthropomorphic common toads. I guess kinda mermaid ish but not really honestly. Just funny toads!

However, due to the latest Dark Matter invasion, the temple has become something of a target. Usually visitors and wildlife come and go as they please and Gamugaeru leaves them be, but now the temple has been invaded by Bukisets and seized by Captain Stitch. The Captain took advantage of the distraction caused by the Dark Matter forces and captured Kogamugaeru, stranding her on a ledge on the temple's highest floor, far from the water below, and locking her there with a barrier that can only be pierced by the Needle ability. He did this because he wanted a stronghold or hideout of sorts. The temple isn't his, but he thinks it ought to be.

2-4's temple itself is incredibly large and incredibly old--it doesn't even have true windows, just dark areas that have walls and light areas that have pillars. The structure is already somewhat of a maze that only the toads know by heart, but everything becomes much more difficult to navigate in the dark rooms, where some doors are hidden by the lack of light. It's those doors that are the most important! Inside the last secret room is Captain Stitch's stolen lair, where Kine and Kirby challenge him to a fight!

They find Kogamugaeru in the next room and free her. She isn't hurt, but her skin is getting dry. How could it not be! She's been out of the water too long. Kirby and co. run her under the waterfalls in the next room, then bring her back to her mother. Gamugaeru is so relieved her daughter is safe and healthy. She thanks Kine, gives him a Heart Star, and says goodbye as the 3 friends move on to another stage.

Regarding Gooey, you may notice that he has the necklace in this stage! This is because he used the Stone ability to explore secret rooms, so as to not waste Kine's Spark ability. He didn't really like doing it, but it was the best option. Ironically, Gooey might actually be kind of afraid of the dark!

Kirby's Dreamland 3 stage 2-3, Elieel's stage!

Another minigame stage! In this one, when you enter Elieel's room you play a memory game. Elieel rapidly jumps from one vase to another, and you have to remember which one you last saw her in!

Elieel herself is a mermaid, though she's a bit special-- she was originally a normal eel (like all the other Elieels are) but was granted the ability to transform into a mermaid. So, kind of similar to what Captain Stitch and Nruff have going on, but Elieel has no real connection to her brethren like the others do. She's content to let them keep being normal eels while she does her own thing, she doesn't want to rule them. She uses her newfound intelligence to play pranks on humans and have fun! She is also fond of Gordos, who she likes to play with. Her clothes are also made of Gordo remains, which you can interpret as either the gordos are able to shed, or she has taken the shells of dead ones (assuming Gordos can die of old age or smth).

I can ramble for a little bit abt Elieel's design! I knew I wanted her to be kind of unconventional as a mermaid design (like my Sweet Stuff and Master Green designs) and I wanted her to be "sexy", but in a funny way (again like Sweet Stuff) so she's very long and slippery like her eel inspiration, and she has very short weasely arms, but she's also slightly curvy and wears a Gordo bra. It serves no purpose (ffs she's an eel its not like she has anything to cover up LOL) but I just thought it looked silly!

Next up is Gamugaeru & Kogamugaeru's stage... I have no idea how to gijinkify toad characters! But I will do my best.

KDL3 stage 2-2, Bakasa's stage!

I love Kine so much he is my favorite animal friend and design!!!!! In the second drawing you can see his boots better-- he does have star shaped gems on both soles but that doesn't mean he can hold 2 abilities at once, it just means they both change color at the same time. Adding onto what I've said in prior posts, the sparkling star power contained within both shoes is enough to allow Kine to stand and walk on land, albeit in mild pain. It's far from ideal, but he's willing to put up with it for the sake of his loved ones and Dreamland.

I must admit it's kinda tough though, juggling 6 animal friends AND Gooey between these levels (particularly since the animal friends don't often interact with each other, though maybe it's for the best so I don't exhaust myself?? idk) like I know I absolutely did NOT have to include Gooey here since I literally play this game alone & his CPU is bad but... I just really want him to be there!! As a treat..

Anyways regarding Bakasa, it's kinda just a silly creature! I dunno what species it is, it's sorta just a silly blob with an umbrella on its head! I gave it paws because. well theres no specific reason i just thought it'd look cute. it reminds me of Sumikko Gurashi kinda? (btw I only just found out the name of that today!! I have known abt them for years but i always just called them the "things in the corner" LOL???)

Latest monocolor cel shaded custom design commission for DigitalDimension!! This time I drew his sona, Digi, as a future paradox pokemon inspired by Kirby's Robobot Armor. Though of course, rather than riding the armor, Digi IS the armor! I particularly enjoyed experimenting with his holographic cape and hair. It's a type of effect I've wanted to do for years but haven't pulled off this cleanly before! I'm so happy abt it!!!

I designed him based on a large handful of refs Digital sent me, primarily of Kirby's robobot armor and of various mechanical pokemon. He wanted him to have floating ears and a railgun, while I suggested the hologram hair and cape. I also decided his eyes should be both orange and cyan, rather than simply cyan as they usually are. Looks more eyecatching that way I think!

Thanks for the commission, I loved drawing your sona! I wonder what we'll call his paradox form. Iron Knight? or is that a thing already? (hasn't played scarlet or violet)

Flat color Expression sheet commission for Branstericoot. This format was interesting since I don't typically draw only headshots! So I suppose it was like drawing a ref sheet, with each pair of expressions counted as 1 'character'. I guess it's a discount? Idk lol. I just talk to my clients abt pricing n we decide on what sounds best!

I'm not a furry, but I really enjoy drawing people's fursonas! It's just a whole lot of fun to me, especially talking back n forth with my clients about their designs and their characters. I love it!

KDL3 Stage 2-1, Kamuribana's stage!

The first level of each world of the game is always a 'flower' level. They don't have much in common with each other, other than the presence of similar little flower characters that will flatten and die if you step on them. They all do that. So you have to be careful! Anyways, Kamuribana's gimmick is that you have to water the flowers, which start off as little sprouts. Since this game was made way before a proper Water ability was created, the only way you can water them is using Pitch and the Clean ability!

Finally I can talk abt Pitch lol!! He's from Ripple Field but got separated from his mom & kinda wandered aimlessly from there. Kirby felt bad for him and decided to look after him for a little while, at least until he can find his mom. He's a harpy, so Kirby doesn't fully understand him. Though, Coo does? Only somewhat though, since Pitch can fully transform into a bird while Coo can only transform into a monstrous bird/human hybrid. They're different species, evidently. Anyhow since Pitch is only 4, he only knows how to fly in bird form and can't fly in human form yet. So Kirby encourages him to stay in human form around him so he doesn't get lost again. Kirby does need him to be in bird form when underwater though, because Pitch doesn't know how to swim either (but at least if he's a bird, Kirby can carry him in his pocket while he swims).

Kamuribana's name comes from カンムリバナ, which I'm told means 'crown flower'. She's a flower nymph just like Tulip, but I decided to make her stem and hands a different shape for variety. btw, if anyone has a better explanation of her name I'd like to hear it!! I am very uncertain abt it since I did google it in English n Japanese (using Hiragana and Katakana) and didn't find much. I suppose it's an uncommon combination of words? Since most of the results were flower crowns, lol. It's not like her actual species of flower, she's just called that because she kinda looks like she wears a crown.

Haha. todays post is just one drawring because i have moved on to world 2. it only took me an entire month!!! plus a week i think!!! lol.

Anyways, Chuchu and Kine fight over Kirby. Kine is rather understanding abt others spending time with Kirby, but Chuchu is SUPER jealous if Kirby is with others! Kirby isn't sure how to tell her he doesn't like when she's aggressive to his other friends without making her more angry.

Versus Whispy Woods, KDL3 style!

For some reason I remembered Whispy using his roots like spikes during this boss fight, but it turns out he doesn't do that at all in this game? Weird. Guess I was getting it confused with 64 or a different later game? Anyways shockingly I used Coo for this fight even though, as I've said before, I don't actually like playing as him lol. So he gets fucking PELTED during this fight but he's ok afterwards don't worry!!

I suppose the idea here is that all the bosses in this game are influenced by Dark Matter & that's why they fight, so Whispy's mind is only clear after the Dark Clouds have been excised from Grass Land.

I don't have much else to add. It's Whispy again! How many times have I drawn him by this point anyways? A lot I'm sure. He's everywhere! He'll only continue to be more everywhere from here I'm sure...

KDL3 Stage 1-6, Pierre's stage!

I'm pretty sure this is a rick level since he can climb walls, but later on it's totally meant to be navigated with Coo. So, both of them are here! I've rlly been struggling w these latest dgital dragwings because ive been sick w allergies lately... im considering putting them on hold but i rlly dont want to because i enjoy them so much and its one of the only things i do for me?? idk

Anyways Pierre is weird. His species is clown as far as I'm concerned lmao. His design is based off those exploding clowns from Beatles Yellow Submarine, which, btw, I was TERRIFIED of as a kid lol. I wasn't even scared of clowns but those guys scared me!! Pierre's not scary tho. he's just a silly guy who juggles.

KDL3 Stage 1-5, Mine's stage!

Kirby and Gooey split up and agreed to meet at a certain spot in Grass Land. Kirby led Kine while Gooey led Mine! Kine's going to stay here with Mine for a while, until he is needed again. (this is because I always drop the Animal Friends off and the end of each 'loved one' level when I play! It does absolutely nothing I just think it's cute).

Mine is Kine's wife! She's a sunfish mermaid like him, but she might be more adapted to fresh water or land since she lives in Grass Land. I dunno how salinity works when it applies to a mermaid ngl. Like do mermaids care if water is saltwater or freshwater? They must, right? Anyhow, unlike Kine, Mine doesn't need to use mobility aids on land. I imagine she's very conscious/concerned of her husband's role as a Dark Matter Hunter; the feeling may be similar to having a spouse in the military--a sense of admiration but also a sense of fear of what may happen to him if he's not careful. Kine has been thinking about retiring from the lifestyle, but he feels that he cannot let Dreamland down during its time of need. So, this might be his last adventure!

Designing Mine was an interesting challenge, as I'm sure all the other 'loved ones' will be-- many of them are merely recolors of the animal friends so it's tough to come up with a completely separate gijinka design (I don't want to risk them looking like siblings LOL). I wanted Mine to look softer and cuter than Kine, with less sharp points. I debated whether to give her visible lips since Mine's in-game sprite doesn't have them, so I compromised by giving her a bit of lipstick that's the same color as her blush/cheek spots.

KDL3 Stage 1-4, Chao and Goku's stage!

In this level, my working explanation for the story is that it's been sorta... overtaken... by Boboo, who is looking for more fuel to create more Bobos and become more powerful. As it so happens, Goku is incredibly strong and high in energy, making him a great source of fuel... so Boboo wants to hunt him down. Terrified, Goku flees into 1-4's caves! Chao gets worried, and sends Kirby to find him. Kirby defeats Boboo, allows Gooey to use their Burning ability, and they make it safely back to Chao.

I have somewhat returned to traditional media. Apologies for posting this late... it's actually for the same reason as the style change! I went on vacation right after Christmas! I also realized the Ohuhu markers I got as a present were WAY nicer to use than colored pencil n didn't hurt as much so um. fuck that noise im only using colored cpencils for the bgs now. or when i need them. idk.

Did you know Chuchu can climb ceilings? Because of her suction cups I suppose. It's very fickle in the game I think, but I suppose it's one of her abilities I do consistently find myself entertained by??? it's so quirky and cute lol.

Goku is a deity, though probably a young one judging by his design?? I dunno, I didn't play Yuyuki since it's famicom exclusive. He's clearly based on Sun Wukong from Journey to the West! Chao on the other hand, is a completely normal human girl. She's specifically stated to be Chinese, so she's from Earth and could either be visiting Popstar, or perhaps moved there after some kind of planetary catastrophe.... Anyways, she and Goku are best friends. Idk much abt Chao's character, but I did notice that her outfit is a changshan, which is generally considered masculine (it has a feminine counterpart, the cheongsam, which looks completely different!) so it could mean that she is a tomboy? Or maybe she just prefers loose fitting clothes.

Regarding Boboo, I suppose they're an ifrit like Efreeti. They're not actually allied w Dark Matter though, they're just incredibly self serving, almost animalistic. Their entire body is made of flame except for their shoes, which are stainless steel. Anything they touch, they will attempt to overtake and assimilate as fuel! They seem terrifying, but can still be put out (almost) as easily as any other fire.

KDL3 stage 1-3, Pitcherman's stage!

Much shorter than the others since I don't think this one had any ability blocks, so I just had to draw Kine and Kirby in between the level illustrations. This level has Coo and Kine, but Kine is my favorite so I picked him! Sorry Coo, I just don't think you're that fun to play usually... (tbf I don't like playing as Chuchu and Pitch much either)

I'm sure you already know quite a bit about my Kine, but I can tell you more about his new design and his context in KDL3! So firstly since this is another high stakes adventure he is wearing his assistive boots again, which you should be able to spot in my first drawing of him for KDL3? He is wearing a backwards Hawaiian shirt-- it's backwards because it's more comfortable & doesn't cover up his spinal fin; he doesn't want it to fold. The earring on his left fin is actually an engagement ring, since his wife Mine was introduced in this game! So she has one on her right fin. It's not on their fingers since both of them have webbed hands, and it being pierced means it can stay put while they're in fish form.

Regarding Pitcherman, I don't have a lot to say about what he is species wise? He's humanoid, and probably the same species as the character Obachan from later in the game. He's much younger than her, definitely. I think he's probably a kid or teenager, but he uses the name PitcherMAN because it makes him sound cooler lol. Otherwise, he's a baseball player with a particular fondness for Gordos, using them to practice his throwing. His sleeves and pants are made of a thick protective material that keeps him from getting injured while throwing them. The gordos themselves are pretty happy w this arrangement, since y'know. It doesn't hurt them because they're invincible. It's fun for them to move so fast! I think they're kinda like different breeds of dog to him.

I recognize the irony in my Kine design being accidentally fruity looking even though this is the game where he's canonically married to a woman but... I am NOT changing it because it looks nice 2 me LOL. He is my favorite so I can draw him in a gay little outfit as a treat.

KDL3 Stage 1-2, Muchimuchi's stage!

This level has.... Pitch and Chuchu iirc? But as you can see from my drawings, I went in with Nago and left with Chuchu since she's necessary to get the Heart Star.

About Chuchu-- she's 14 years old and she's a Flapjack Octopus mermaid with a rather unconvincing 'human' form... it gets the job done (allows her to walk on 2 legs) so it will have to do! She can use the Needle, Spark, and Clean abilities completely on her own, but she must rely on Kirby for the others. She's a very stubborn and short tempered girl. She doesn't like being challenged, but she's very willing to fight to make a point! She doesn't like the idea of "sharing" Kirby with others, so she gets super jealous when he hangs out with other friends. Except Pitch and Gooey. Chuchu thinks Pitch is just an annoying baby and she thinks Gooey is gross, so she doesn't see them as "competition". It's a shame, she'd probably be good friends with some of her fellow animal friends if she were to give them a chance!

Regarding Chuchu and Kirby's relationship, they're like, unofficially dating sort of ??? Chuchu is obviously in love with Kirby, but Kirby doesn't know how to reciprocate and isn't even really sure if he is in love with her. I'm sure I said he's asexual before, but he might be demiromantic as well--he doesn't really know that though. Chuchu, on the other hand, claims to be straight, but she is in love with an enby so she's more bi than she realizes. It feels a bit like high school romance lol, neither of them know what they're doing rlly.

Muchimuchi is so fucking weird? I can't even rlly gijinkify him he's just a weird jelly accordion guy who likes being whipped for some damn reason. what the hell. he gives you a heart for slapping him?????? I guess he just thinks Chuchu's cute? Chuchu's fucking weirded out by a giant accordion guy giving her a heart star for slapping him tho lol.

I switched to digital because of wrist issues. I initially thought it was cuz I was coloring too hard w my colored pencils. I WAS, but I've ALSO been playing too much ctr and THATS the main thing that's been hurting me!! God fucking dammit!! I paid money for the battle pass and wanted to get my money's worth lol!!!!

I'm pretty sure the majority of the gem drawings on their blog are stolen-- their style is inconsistent and upon reverse image searching, I found two other artists (not even tumblr users afaik) whose art was stolen:

For the record, I am confident these are stolen and not simply alternate accounts for several reasons-- my friend Dude's artwork is obvious since I saw him draw the character, but also because Gemfuzion25's post demonstrates a lack of understanding of what the subject of the art even is; the character was designed as Desert Rose on July 1, but is mislabeled as 'Milky Agate' in Gemfuzion25's post from October 15. Milky Agate is varying shades of white and pale grey, not brown.

Gemfuzion25 is not Taylor (Landfish7) because Taylor is a semi-active artist, but hasn't posted SU fanart since 2022. Gemfuzion's account is from late 2023, and is reposting Taylor's older art from 2017-2019. Taylor's fusions Spectrolite and Harlequin Quartz are mislabeled as 'Chalcedony 2.0' and 'Rodocrocite 2.0' respectively. Their earlier fusions are also unnamed, but Gemfuzion's posts give them names (Taylor's early fusions are just labeled "(list of components) fusion" in terms of format on their DA posts).

Gemfuzion is also not Jair (Great Diamond Authority 2nd) because Jair consistently draws gem fusions with their components' most current forms-- this means that his fusions with Ruby and Sapphire ALWAYS have rings, even when drawn in chronologically impossible fusions like with Pink Diamond and Rose Quartz. So, when he drew Sunstone, he drew her with current Garnet in mind. Gemfuzion mislables the fusion as containing '80s Garnet' instead, even though Garnet's old form never had rings. Plus, Jair also hasn't posted SU fanart since 2022.

This is not all the sources, but it's the ones I was able to find. Don't harass this user, just report for art theft & look for the original artists behind the other art on their blog.

KDL3 Stage 1-1: Tulip's stage!

I'm approaching these with a similar format to my KDL2 posts, except divided by stage rather than level since each stage is very unique in KDL3. This also means this is going to take me forever LOL. In terms of standalone ability drawings, each one will contain Kirby AND Gooey, since they have the same movesets. They're only placed next to each other for comparison though since like I said they can't BOTH wear the necklace at the same time. So far I think Gooey likes Spark the best!

This level has Rick and Nago, but I never used Rick since it was too risky-- too much of a chance of him accidentally stepping on the flowers!! Nago is preferential since he has 3 jumps. I would NEVER take Gooey here unless I was playing w 2 players though. His CPU is SO bad lmao (worse than any Helper in the original Super Star if you can imagine). That's how it is for the entire game quite frankly, but I REALLY like the idea of Kirby and Gooey going on the whole adventure together, so I'm pretending I did this whole thing with 2 people LOL.

I can tell you a little more about Nago since this post is very Nago centric! He's 19 years old and is honestly a completely normal guy... other than being able to turn into a giant cat anyways LOL. He can't use copy abilities for himself, but he's very crafty. He likes to help Kirby come up with new methods and angles to use his abilities. He has some difficulties befriending the other animal friends since he feels like he can't relate to them, so for now he's only friends with Kirby and Rick. He doesn't like when Kirby chooses to hang out with other friends over him. I guess that makes him n Rick more alike than I realized LOL. He is prone to expressing his emotions in catlike ways since he's a werecat.

I don't have much to say about this level's resident character, Tulip. She's a flower nymph, and she has 4... kids? counterparts? I don't know what they are to her. None of them transform, and the little flowers don't talk or anything, they just have eyes. Though, they can move underground by tunneling I think. Only between areas without grass though! They're very particular.

Ramblings abt Nago and calico cats in general under the cut since I have a special interest in cats and genetics:

So if you were unaware, calico cats (and tortoiseshell cats) are almost always female IRL! Thsi is because 'red' (orange) and black fur colors are both linked to the x chromosome, so a cat can only have 1 of those 2 per x chromosome. If the cat has only 1 x chromosome, it can only be red or black, never both. So this means that even though he's a male character, Nago must have 2 x chromosomes for his coat color to make sense. I think one could interpret him as transmasc, intersex, or they could say he has Klinefelter syndrome or some other chromosomal condition? So I chose to depict him as transmasc in my gijinka AU since I'm transmasc and he was my favorite animal friend when I was a kid!!

Did the designers working on KDL3 intend for him to be trans? Probably not, I think it was just an oversight. They wanted a funny cat character and calico is a very cute and popular color for cats! Though idk it is possible he was intentionally transgender since Kirby's probably like, the queerest popular nintendo mascot I can think of?? If he's gender neutral is it that farfetched for Nago to be trans or intersex? I don't know, I'm not his original designer.

Anyways another funny fact abt cats that Nago's designers might've known-- cats squint/close their eyes as a sign of trust in others! So Nago's eyes are usually shut because he's showing Kirby that he can trust him! (yes that means he's VERY upset when Kirby uses the needle ability or switches to a different animal friend cuz his eyes widen. TBF, if my friend was shooting chunks out of his face and turning them into needles, I'd be pretty distressed too LOL). I really like this detail cuz it means at least one person on the design team rlly rlly loved cats lol.
