Yod and 'Ayin. characters for some puzzle platformer video game idea i had back in february of last year. maybe like (note, games i have not played or watched more than 1 play through of) ori and the bling forest, unraveled, rain world, or odd world.
more idea info under the cut.
the main mechanic of the game would be that the main character has super stretchy arms to grab onto poles or other things in the environment to swing from, grab enemies or boxes to throw, use them to fling itself, etc. kinda like spiderman and his webs. maybe it'd get weapons or upgrades over time, like a dagger, or brass knuckles.
it might have a cape function like journey, and maybe multiplayer. where you can play the game many times over, and unlock a further detailed cape/cloak. or might also be used to reflect the skill of the player. maybe like a speedrun thing, or as a reward for completing specific task, like a combo score, taking out a certain number of enemies, or even going through the game without getting hit once.
the plot would be something akin to the movie 9 (from 9/9/2009), but with the world falling into shambles for some other reason, and only having two "rag-doll" type characters. that being the player character and 'ayin (the guy with the red claw).
the enemies are some strange insects and ocean creatures mixed, mostly taking inspiration from isopods, centipedes, rhinoceros beetles, seaslugs, cephalopods, and perhaps even parasites like tapeworms or heartworms. the enemies themselves are created form some kind of parasite or infection.
the goal of the game is that there is some kind of machine that is meant to bring the world back to how it was before all these creatures, or this parasite/infection took over. it's a machine that needs a heart. the protagonist actual goal is unclear, but the antagonist believes the machine is meant to take the protagonist heart to power it. the reality is that both the protagonist and antagonist are needed to power the machine. there can be 3 or more endings that come from this conflict, either based on the players choices throughout the entire game, or may only be affected by negotiating solely with the antagonist at the end.
maybe the "heart of the machine" is scattered throughout the world. maybe it really is the player and you can surrender or not go without a fight. maybe you can kick the antagonist into the machine instead. maybe you can convince the antagonist that you are both needed to set things right.
game may also take undertale or one shot inspiration, not just with the multiple endings, but with the antagonist at least remembering past play throughs. this might also help get better endings, or may loop into lore.
i can't imagine the main gameplay loop being very long, maybe an hour in length. it's more the replay value that's important, and the potential for speedruns, achievements, or 100% completion. maybe some silly little easter eggs like bugs playing poker in a sewer level, or comboing jumps or seeing how long a player can go without touching the ground by bouncing off enemies and grabbing trees/pipes/whatever they can grab onto. something fun to get high-scores on like classic sonic games with alternate paths.
