Introducing Amber Isle’s newest Paleofolk, Penn the Archaeopteryx! 💗❄

Here are some early character concepts! Despite being 90% floof, as a Tundra resident, he knits oversized scarves & hats to keep extra warm. You may notice his sling - an accident as a hatchling damaged his wing feathers, sadly making flight difficult for our sweet, soft son :’>

Colour passes! We needed more pink in our roster, so for this lil' fella, we looked at flamingo & cockatoo patterns for inspiration. Then in his final design, we incorporated black colouration on his feather tips, nodding to colouration evidence in IRL archaeopteryx! ✨

We try to strike a balance between colourful, stylised cartoony designs and accuracy to the real-life animal counterparts, making every Paleofolk a fun, unique design challenge. We’d love to hear what sort of Paleofolk y’all want to see from us next!  🦖🧡

Any chance of cambrian critters being featured in the game? Anomalocaris and Opabinia, of course, but I'm secretly holding out hope for some Tully Monster rep!

We don't want to spoil any Paleofolk reveals by giving away any specifics, but we are planning on Cambrian, Devonian and Permian Paleofolk as well as the expected roster of Mesozoic ones! Stay tuned in the meantime! ✨

🔸Meet Adi the Megalosaurus🔸  As development continues, we’d love to share more about the world of Amber Isle. Beginning with these Paleofolk sheets- basically everything you need to know about our characters, all in one little package! ✨ (Might want to fullscreen the image for readability OR find the text version under ‘keep reading’ ! ) Of course we’ll start with Adi, our soft orange son 🧡🦖

Adi is the Mayor’s new assistant, with the term ‘assistant’ being used quite loosely, as it seems that he does most of the hard work. He‘s always on his feet, darting from task to task, and yet always makes enough time to stop and greet everyone along the way. He’s eager to prove himself and impress the Mayor, at any cost.  Adi grew up alongside his 24 siblings, of which he was the most small and shy. If he struggled to make his voice heard, which he often did, Adi would turn to scrapbooking and writing. He discovered it would help him clear his head and make sense of the world around him. He began a habit of scrapbooking something every day, even if it was just a receipt for lunch or a leaf he’d found.  Now, Adi is know for his excellent organisation skills, speedy thinking and warm personality, and is doing his best to keep everything in check on Amber Isle. Regardless, as the village grows it becomes increasingly noticeable how often Adi is scatterbrained, exhausted and even falling asleep on his feet...

🐟 Character concepts for everyone’s favourite devonian placoderm: Dunkleosteus!  Art & Designs by Exty! We explored a bunch of different ideas for this character, but ultimately went with the writer, as we thought the juxtaposition of a marine creature trying to write with paper and ink would be super endearing!  Then, we opted to explore more realistic patterns and warm colours for her and tweaked her final design to have more accurate soft tissue. Here’s the end result!

Is there going to be any farming or foraging?

Hi there!✨ We have no plans to include farming in Amber Isle at the moment, however, you can gather materials and ingredients (eg. mushrooms) from around the island! We're planning to include a chef discipline for Paleofolk so you can craft and sell kitchenware and eventually even food! Hi, a new fan here! will there, by chance, be different weights and sizes for the player characters that players can adjust, giving them a unique shape?

Hi there!

This is a really nice idea! 🧡 We've been thinking about the feasibility of size customisation since this question came up, and although we think it'd be cool to include, it would be difficult to implement given the possible animation issues it could create, particularly around clipping. We'll try to include as much customisation as we can, but unfortunately we have no concrete plans for this at the moment.
