The thing about wanting to write smart essays is you truly do have to read books to do that, and the thing about reading books is that it is way harder now that I am not 17 and smartphoneless

“By the usual measures, Biden should be cruising to reëlection. Violent crime has dropped to nearly a fifty-year low, unemployment is below four per cent, and in January the S. & P. 500 and the Dow hit record highs. More Americans than ever have health insurance, and the country is producing more energy than at any previous moment in its history. His opponent, who is facing ninety-one criminal counts, has suggested that if he is elected he will fire as many as fifty thousand civil servants and replace them with loyalists, deputize the National Guard as a mass-deportation force, and root out what he calls “the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country.””
— Joe Biden’s Last Campaign

i love reading sad books bc when your own grief is stopped up inside you like a clogged drain you can grieve for a character on a page and understand that you're also grieving for yourself a little bit

One of the best things I ever did for myself re: the Lucas canon vs Disney canon vs Legends debate was to reframe it from "that's not canon" (because any given element can be canon to one of those) to "that's not the continuity this discussion is about". I think it's more accurate, acknowledges that each universe has value, and delineates the details a lot more clearly, instead of sucking us into the eternal debate of "What even IS canon to Star Wars?" You're free to mix-and-match what continuities you like, but they are clearly separate to those who are putting out official source material and this is a much more coherent way of getting that across.

Okay, you know what? After reading this post, I jokingly said we should all just make a pact to reblog it five times a day forever. So I'm gonna do this louder for the people in the back:
AO3 WAS CREATED BY FANS, FOR FANS
AO3 IS RUN BY FANS (VOLUNTEERS, NO LESS)
AO3 IS PART OF THE NON-PROFIT, ORGANIZATION FOR TRANSFORMATIVE WORKS
AO3 IS NOT OWNED BY ANY COMPANIES AND DOES NOT EARN REVENUE
AO3 OPERATES ON DONATIONS FROM FANS
again:
AO3 WAS CREATED BY FANS, FOR FANS

I want emo versions of idioms
Like, instead of ““you’re barking up the wrong tree” it’s “you’re panicking at the wrong disco”

i'm actually very okay with "there was no other way this could end" endings. if they gotta die, let them die. if they gotta break up or go the wrong way or lose something important, let'em. so long as it completes the story. only thing i dislike more than a forced happy ending is a forced bad ending
