How long do you suppose those braids are going to stay on Hollow's horns? Will someone have to remove them shortly?
The questions distract Hornet from her lamp tapping.
"Hopefully not! Hollow should get to dress up their horns all nice! Maybe it's not as fancy as decorations can go, since all of mine are too small and we're not at home so we can't borrow mama's, but it still looks fancy even with just the little silk braids. Hollow doesn't really wear anything that isn't their armor or cloak, an' I know that's 'cause it's got lots of training and having fancy horns can get in the way when you're fighting, but these don't get in the way that much."
[When the braids will be removed depends on a few factors. If Queen Herrah is the one arriving to retrieve her daughter, it's rare that she has Hornet remove any decorations she's decided to give the Vessel's horns. If it is her Father or Stepmother, the Vessel will almost certainly be ordered to remove the decorations once Hornet has left with Them.
The adornments are usually removed after training if Herrah is the one who retrieves her daughter. Either one of the Monarchs gives the order for it to remove them or one of the Knights, knowing that They will do so, will give the order before the Vessel goes to train with Soul under it's Creators' watch.]
Faintly, there is the sound of someone approaching the quiet corridor. The Princess of Deepnest's parent has finally arrived to the end of their journey via the much, much longer route that not being able to skip entire floors requires.
Final call for asks directed to the Pure Vessel / Hornet before we switch to a new answerer.

Hornet, what did you think of Hollow when you first met? Or were you too young to remember?
The Princess of Deepnest, the only Pale Child, has finished wrapping her sibling's horns with braided silk. She is now perched atop the middle prong of one horn, balancing careful and poking at one of the overhead lamps with her wooden training needle.
"I don't remember when I first met Hollow, because it was there shortly after I hatched to help Mama and Midwife take care of me, apparently. Father and Mama Vespa were both away at an important meeting and couldn't be there at first. Nobody expected me to hatch for another week. Mama says I got bored of waiting, and Mama Vespa and Midwife say it was me pulling my first prank on Father!"
The lumaflies in the lamp Hornet is poking do not seem perturbed by the Princess's gentle taps on the glass. They merely float around their enclosure dreamily.
"I guess I've always thought of Hollow as just my big sibling. It's always been here to help take care of me, and they play games with me and Colette whenever I ask, unless they have to do something else. Not really any different than the things that big sister Isma does, but it's quieter than her. That's okay though, not all bugs can talk or like to talk."

Say, which order is it that says the Pure Vessel has to answer personal questions from random people?
there is no in-universe reason for anyone to be answering any questions. questions are simply asked and information is given. the fourth wall is a little flexible, (ie: one pv post mentions that the multiple asks telling it that they're doing a good job is comforting, characters do require pressing on certain topics for you to get all the information, etc), but it will never break.

I hope that you're alright, PV. You're doing so very well, truly! Have you eaten? Or... hm, do you eat?

<Multiple questions have featured reassurances that it is doing well. It does not ponder at this, nor feel relief with each reassurance, the same way it does not feel reassurance when the Queen of Deepnest tells it that it is doing well. It doesn't need reassurances.>
[The Vessel can do nothing but exactly what it was made and chosen for, and do so perfectly.]
[The Vessel has not eaten recently. It doesn't need to. As the creation of the Pale Beings, it doesn't require the action, nor does it experience any side effects from not doing so. When it was small, it ate. Consuming helped it molt and grow.
Now it does not grow, and so it has no reason to eat. The White Palace is filled with limitless Soul, and it is more than enough to ensure the Vessel remains in perfect condition.]

it's been a while since i posted here but i'm not dead, nor do i plan on abandoning this blog. i've just been stuck on an answer and easily distracted, (along with Life™ in general)

this is something i was hoping i wasn't going to have to spell out for people:
Do not interact with this blog if you think the Pale King and the White Lady aren't colonizers. they are. they focus on using non-military power to take over, reserving the military as a last resort, but that does not make them not colonizers.

Does the Vessel experience fatigue, and need rest, or is resting at night simply another part of a routine?
[Both.
As the creation of the Pale Beings, the Vessel is capable of doing far more than mortal bugs can before truly requiring rest. Resting frequently simply ensures that it remains in peak condition after the hours spent training with nail and Soul each day.
When it was small, rest was more necessary. It was tiny, and growing, and it could not do as much as it is capable of now. So the routine began then. In the present day, the routine also ensures that the Princess does not attempt to avoid her own rest when she is at the Palace by finding the Vessel and making a game out of it picking her up and returning her to her room every time she seeks it out after the Palace's glow has dimmed and she should be asleep. Now she merely pokes it's mask to awaken it upon her arrivals back to the Palace.]

Hornet, is there anything at the Palace you miss when you're back in Deepnest? Something you're sad to leave behind whenever you leave, maybe
"Yeah, I miss leaving my siblings behind. Hollow never gets to come to see me in Deepnest and Isma only get to visit a little more often than it does. And I miss getting to train with the other Knights and getting to see Lurien and paint with him when he babysits me. Otherwise, I guess I don't miss much when I'm at home. Hallownest is weird."
"The Palace is fun to explore, but the courtiers always talk whenever I use my needle to explore, and the City is really cool, but I don't get to visit it anywhere near as often as I do the village back home. Father and Stepmother always say stuff like; "Princesses do not just go out into the city", but that makes no sense. Why not go out into the city, there's stuff to do there and people to talk to, why does going out into the city have to be such a big deal?"

Has anyone ever actually tried to attack you? I’d doubt so, but the ravages of the infection have a tendency to throw better judgement out the window
tw: canon typical violence and death mention, intrusive thoughts
[Infected bugs have attempted to attack the Vessel before. They do not know what fully know what the Vessel is when they do, they know it as Wyrm craft, as Root make, like the kingsmoulds. A creation of Theirs to serve and protect Them.
The Old Light's sight in the waking world is weak. She cannot control the infected as full extensions of her will, cannot know all they know and cannot see all that they see. She knows bugs through their visits to the dream realm, weaves light into their eyes and promises into their minds. She builds those promises from what she gathers watching them walk in the dream realm, but the Vessel is completely cut off from the dream realm that she occupies. It cannot enter it.
So when bugs have attacked the Vessel, it is because it is known to the bugs to be a creation of the Monarchs, and because the Old Light holds rage unending against Them, she calls to the infected to seek the destruction of such things.
There is no hope for fully infected bugs. The Light cannot be removed from them, and they are a danger to all. The Vessel's purpose is to one day prevent any bug from ever being infected at all, but that day has not yet come. So the Pure Vessel has orders to execute infected bugs that attack it, or others. A quick and true death to eliminate the threat to Hallownest. It has done so before-
<their deaths are your fault. they would be even if it wasn't your nail that ended them. they die because you have not saved them>
And it will do so again, if necessary. It fulfills the order it has to offer the lost bugs a final mercy. It fulfills every order it's Creators have given.]

another can hear you: askbox is open, and one of the answering questions someone other than the Pure Vessel
not the vessel: an OOC post
focus: attached to posts that give a deeper look at characters
world sense: attached to posts that expand on the world as a whole
lore tablet: attached to posts that give detail about major actions or events that happened in the past
blinding light: attached to posts that give details about or include the Infection
dream realm: attached to posts when answers are coming from the dream realm (or what passes for it when it comes to the Vessel). also a signal that the rule on magic anons and asks of that nature is being lifted somewhat, (dreams are different from the physical world, asks can shape them more directly)
