Little interlude — exploring these bugs! If you take a close-up look at them, they almost look like aliens! It is almost impossible to say, how many different species inhabit our planet, but scientists agree that there are more than a million! . They don’t always have a good reputation. They ruin the harvest, harm and appear dangerous, but the truth is, they play an important role in the equilibrium of nature! . Like bees, they pollinate numerous plants! 35 percent of what we harvest wouldn’t even exist without them! Or try to imagine the textile silk industry with out the silk spinner — one single caterpillar can produce a thread of 1.5 km length!! . Im not sure yet what I’m going to do with those sketches! All I know is, I am not done yet with them! Lust look at those amazing antennas — don’t they look like antlers? . Yay, I am so exited at the end of this remarkable year to share a small insight of my recent work with you! I had to decide whether I was going to show my patterns or illustrations, and in the end as I was browsing through my files, the illustrations really jumped at me! . Also, to make it more fun, I had the idea of creating a sort of puzzle from them — kind of a fantasy creature with the head of a bear, a leopards middle, an elephant trunk and a cat's tail. Just to spark your creativity and add an element of play! . Thinking back, it's been a year of research and learning (@bonniechristine Immersion2021, @bonniechristine Mentorship2021, putting the pieces together and mixing them all up again — creation, destruction, and recreation, yet still with an open ending. . I'm so grateful for everything I was able to learn this year, and so curious about what the new year might hold for all of us? . Hello, hello! Today I’d like to introduce you to the African forest elephant, another highly endangered animal! . They are the cousins of the African savanna elephants, but smaller in size, their ears are more oval-shaped and their tusks are straighter and point downward (the tusks of savanna elephants curve outwards). . Forest elephants also have a much slower reproductive rate than savanna elephants, so they cannot bounce back from population declines as quickly at the same rate. Their last strongholds are located in Gabon and the Republic of Congo, with smaller populations remaining in other African countries (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea) and Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, and Ghana in west Africa. . Since the diet of forest elephants is dominated by fruit, they play a crucial role in dispersing many tree species, particularly the seeds of large trees which tend to have high carbon content. They are therefore referred to as the 'mega-gardener of the forest'. (worldwildlife.org) . These animals need our help! How are you all, dear friends out there? . Remember these bunnies? I just came across them again, and it’s only been 6 months since I finalised my first collection, but it seems almost like another lifetime! . I really feel I have come a long way since. So why not pull that collection out again, and see how I can tweak it a little, maybe even improve?! . At the time I really struggled with the second colour way! I think this is a good starting point — I will make use of my newly learnt skills with the recolour artwork tool, and maybe also play around with the scale of my initial patterns! .
