I was going to attempt to draw this scene accurately, then I checked my book and saw that Harrow wasn’t wearing her makeup and didn’t have the bone sheath thing down yet, and obviously Ianthe’s arm situation was a bit different, and what’s the point of drawing Locked Tomb fanart if it doesn’t have any skull makeup or weird bones?? So anyways, have some more general purpose Harrow-Ianthe art, with Ianthe still surprised and Harrow still weirdly focused because that’s how I roll.
(Also do they have a ship name? Should I be using that?)

Please enjoy this line art of what it might have looked like if Marcille and Senshi had worn the “not-so tame ones” in the Golden Country. I just finished reading Volume 7 of Delicious in Dungeon and couldn’t resist. I’ll try to get this colored tomorrow.

The trio of the Third from the Locked Tomb books. Drawn with zero skeleton arm reference images because that’s just how I roll. Technically Naberius’s sword is probably not gold, but it matched the theme too well not to use it: his strength is in his swordsmanship, Coronabeth’s is in her beauty (as represented by her hair), and Ianthe’s is in her necromancy (her arm).
This is, of course, a sparkle image.

Any other Utena fans in the Locked Tomb fandom? The cavaliar-adept relationship seems a bit similar to the rose bride-duelist one - the idea that the two on some level function as a pair and fight as one; holding someone else’s soul in your hands as a weapon and hoping you don’t break it. I’d originally planned for this to be a less depressing piece of art, but then I remembered Utena had some perfectly good imagery for people getting impaled on things, and off I went.
I may draw variants on this later, or try coloring it in other mediums. We’ll see!

Gideon meeting Dulcinea. As someone who’s done some stage managing and run crew, I know well the problems of mismatched shades of black clothing, and I doubt she and Harrow could even tell until they got somewhere with real sunlight.

Recently read The Locked Tomb books. Loved Gideon the Ninth, appreciated Harrow the Ninth a lot but also spent the book emphasizing with her enough that the lighter moments and memes mostly didn’t break through the feeling of sympathetic depression... Anyways, here’s Harrow! Based on the description of her at the formal dinner. Her makeup was described as “the sacramental skull of Priestess Crushed Beneath the New-Laid Rock,” so I gave her lots of skull cracks.
At some point I will get around to writing up some book observations/theories that I haven’t seen anyone else mention yet. Some point.

I discovered the existence of the knob billed duck - their iridescence is exactly how I imagine angel and demon wings.
As usual, sparkle art is considerably more sparkly than the scanner makes it appear.

My version of @alicerovai‘s dtiys. This was a tricky pose! I keep occasionally experimenting with differently colored outlines, since this post gave an interesting description of how Disney uses them. It’s a process.

In honor of the Saiyuki manga getting a rerelase in English, have some wholesome frolicking. I actually cosplayed Nataku waaaay back in the day (... and Komyou, and Seiten Taisei...), so this was a major nostalgia burst.
Thanks to @minekura-fan-events for organizing the countdown!

Art practice with Eve Polastri of Killing Eve! I really appreciate how much the costuming, lighting, etc. of that show flaunts Sandra Oh’s gorgeousness - everything is so flattering and lovely, this dress especially included.

Another piece of art based on The Curse of Chalion, my favorite book. I had a hard time getting the watercolors to cooperate with me - paint would go down looking one color, then the paper would suck up pigment as it dried, making things look different. Ah well. It’s a learning process.
This shows the morning after the wedding of Iselle and Bergon.

Decided to do some art for my favorite book, The Curse of Chalion. Here’s a drawing of the climax from memory. There’s a few random things wrong with it, mostly for reasons of the art working better that way (too much blue! I refuse to draw cobblestones!), though I may still try to do a more accurate version sometime later.

Another artwork featuring Crowley. And only now do I have the belated realization that I could’ve given him a halo or horns... May later. We’ll see.
@noordzee mentioned using copics on watercolor paper for their beautiful Secret of Kells Good Omen comics. I’ve just started getting into alcohol-based markers (Spectrum Noir, in my case), and was curious to try it out. So far I’ve been drawing on rag marker paper. The watercolor really sucked the moisture out of the pens - markers came out really dark on it, and wet enough to blend really well. So that was neat! And because I was already on watercolor paper, it was easy to add in a watercolor background, and to use the SHINY watercolors to make it VERY SHINY.

So SHINY!

I’m finally getting around to posting my coloring of some earlier linework.
Warning: art may be shinier than the scanner makes it appear.
Tumblr media
Yes, shinier than that.
