Honestly, a not-insignificant contributing factor to my mid-20s gender crisis is that I used to think I was viscerally repulsed by playing as male characters in video games, but eventually I realised it was literally just playing as smarmy brown-haired thirtysomething dudes with an emotional range running the gamut from dull surprise to generic rage that put me off, and basically every other sort of male player character was fine. It's just that this happened to be when the Uncharted series was really taking off, so a solid 50% of all male video game protagonist fit that mould! Nathan Drake sucks so much that he made me question my gender, is what I mean to say.

Seeing asks about specifically "ugh why is no one writing explicitly problematic angsty incest fic where the characters know what they're doing and feeling is Wrong, where's all the tasty drama" is kinda hilarious to me because I know a wide subset of dedicated incest shippers (like, the "what's the point if they're not even bro/sis" kind) who routinely complain that "ugh why does it ALWAYS have to be an angfest where the characters either constantly cry about being Wrong or are simply twisted assholes if not, and why does it ALWAYS have to end in tragedy, can't they just idk use fake identities to get married and be happy for once."

I'm guessing the answer to the first question is "because a lot of incest kink people are bored with the tropes and clichés their canons offer them and that spills over into other, fanon ships too."

But hey, at least that means there's plenty of angsty incest canon stuff to check out, out there.
