My parents are hoteps, what do I do?
educate yourself and others until you can get out from under their wing. Maybe try to educate them, if you’re up to it, but it’s not your responsibility to better your parents. Just be a good example I guess? and if you have younger siblings or family members that seem to be drinking the kool aid, stop that shit post haste. The older generations we can’t always help, but the younger ones are our responsibility.

A friend of mine posted a picture of himself with a white girl at a Halloween party and his cousin left some comment like “you’re hanging with the enemy and practicing paganism. Worshipping the devil” I’d send you a screenshot but I don’t want to share my friend’s picture like that. It was just a Halloween party...
so halloween is the devil worship and the enemy is the whites? sounds like some very on brand stuff from my dad’s side of the family.

I think that anon was talking about the black diaspora, not just African-Americans. Now, in America, when pundits talk about black culture they're usually referring to African-Americans, and if they want to point out to a different black culture, they would say "Jamaican culture, Ghanaian culture, Congolese culture etc."
well yeah, exactly. But if the anon was referring to the ask I got a few months back about the southeast asian anon who wanted to know if they were black or not, in which i responded, like “black culture is exclusively african american” then.... I don’t know

I really forgot i said all this, but it bears repeating. Mod K
So I’m completely African American, and wanted to know your takes on being gay in the black community, off of reading your posts it’s clear that you’re not tainted by conceptualized views of the Bible and just wanted to know your perspective on it
my take is simply that it’s fucking rough my dude.
last year i went to pride, and it was on the same day as odunde. And let me tell you i quickly hid my pride flags when i went to odunde and once i left i put them back on. I think its shitty that black lgbt peeps gotta hide it when they’re in their culture but also have to face racism in the lgbt community. It would make my day if black gays and lesbians could be intersectional without it being so damn hard on the black side of things. but black families are very conservative, especially religiously. Our culture is built on the beliefs of southern christians, with a black spin. That’s the facts. And if the republican party wasn’t so damn racist, there’d be a lot more black republicans.
my take is simply that basing any sort of prejudice off of some semi-translated verses often given without historical context is a cold take. especially when it’s the same practice that allowed people to wage religious wars and inquisitions and lets some whites believe they’re superior. the same outdated opinions that allow catholics to decide to not have any female priests. the ones that say you can sell off your daughters? picking and choosing what to take out of the bible is both ludicrous in some contexts and essential for every christian, because the bible is FULL of random laws given especially for the historical necessity of keeping jewish people safe and their culture intact. which is why there’s so many damn denominations.
i could probably talk forever about this, but tldr; intersectionality is important and its not just something white feminists don’t understand, it’s also something that the black community doesn’t seem to always grasp. There’s some understanding of being both black and a woman, but being black and a woman AND lgbt, or simply black and lgbt, doesn’t seem to be understood. (though it is used to make the One Diverse Character DOUBLE REPRESENTATION) I appreciate the fact that I can join a lot of discord groups that are for and by black lgbt, but we don’t have a lot of voices, even if we’re the loudest activists in every community. I wish it was easier.
sorry i hope that was …. comprehensible at all. i should have tried to answer this in the morning

"black culture is exclusively african american" shouldn't it be african/black american culture then? what about other black people outside of america?
black means “african american” doesn’t it? like it’s not just a skin tone. it’s a culture. Black culture is not talking about african culture. It’s talking about african american culture.
I don’t understand what you’re asking.

Would you stop contact/pull back from hotep family members? I’m mean like really bigoted “they put stuff in our food that targets African dna” hoteps? Like my mom is one and is also super homophobic and I don’t really like being in her presence that much. Her energy make me uncomfortable because she’s such a traditionalist who shamed women for not dealing with bullshit in their marriage just because she’s not married and all and all a bigot and i don’t know if I can take that anymore.
honestly? I distance myself quick from hotep-leaning family members. But that’s also because I literally have the resources and ability to do that. I don’t have to live under their roof or depend on them for food and bill money. So I suppose what I’m saying is yeah, it would be nice to be able to do that. I feel like it would be the easiest thing to do and the best for your health, but you gotta back it up with self-care and self sustainability if that makes sense.

How about south-east asians? We have alot of nelanin too? Does that count as non-black or black/brown?
I would say brown, but black in itself is a culture. if you’re not part of the culture, I’d say you’re probably not black. I’m not an expert or anything, because black culture is exclusively african american
