“Ouch…Shit” you said, almost burning yourself with the oven door. You just wanted to inspect the turkey’s doneness and you were going to end up with a nice burn on your forearm. You quickly closed the oven door before running your skin under cold water to relieve the pain. Just then, the phone started ringing. You turned off the faucet, grabbed the towel to blot your arm with one hand before grabbing the cell phone which were on the large table in the living room. All your worries were gone when you saw the picture of Alex’s face appear on the screen.

“Hi baby”, you replied as you put the camera on. You weren’t a big fan of calling on camera at first, but with a boyfriend who traveled a lot for work, seeing him as much as possible became more than essential.

Fairytale

Description: Moodboard and blurb. Reader and Chris' Disney wedding

“I just realized something,” Chris said softly as they fell into a slow waltz in time with “Beautiful.” For years, it had been her favorite song  from the Cinderella soundtrack, and when she and Chris had readily decided that they wanted a Disney  wedding, that song had just seemed perfect for their first dance. 

She could feel the adoring eyes of family, friends, and the professional photographer they’d hired, on them, but it was all secondary. The only thing that she was really concerned with was the warmth of his embrace and that glint in his eyes that made hers well up. She wasn’t sure if she could explain it, but Y/n was sure that she’d never seen love so certain in anyone’s gaze. “What?” She smiled softly, staring up at him. 

“Every time I think I’ve had the best day of my life, something happens and life just gets better,” gently, he twirled her, and when his palm was once more secured in her waist, and her gaze was once more matched with his gorgeous blue one, he added softly, “Everything with you just gets better. You know? When I met you, it was the best day of my life. Then our first date, and our second one. And the first time you said you loved me- and when you agreed to marry me. Today,” he said with emphasis and Y/n easily recalled a ceremony in front of Cinderella’s castle, in true fashion of a Disney wedding. It had been perfectly magical- the setting sun had offered the most stunning orange glow to the pastel decor, the small, intimate crowd had gathered to share in their misty eyed exchange of personal vows and while they had opted to not have fireworks upon being pronounced man and wife, Y/n could have sworn that there’d been a burst of color when she’d kissed him for the first time as Mrs. Evans. 

As the song reached its crescendo, Chris carefully dipped her, and when they stood again, he held her closer than before, their steps lapsing out of the rehearsed dance in favor of a more intimate sway. “Yeah?” She beamed, “Well, everything gets better with you too,” her smile softened and Y/n moved her hand from his shoulder to caress his nape, threading the ends of his hair through her fingers, “I know that fairytales aren't real,” her voice dropped to a private whisper as she urged closer, leaning forward on her toes so their lips would be close enough to touch, “But this comes pretty damn close.”

“It does,” he rasped in agreement, locking his lips with hers in a kiss that tasted of champagne and a honeyed sweetness that she only associated with him, “And I can’t wait to see the rest of it with you.”

Blinking away a wave of emotion as the song changed and their guests joined them on the dance floor, Y/n nodded subtly, “Neither can I. I love you.”

Chris’ hand slid from her waist to the small of her back as he caught her lips in another ardent- and that time longer- kiss, words mumbled into her mouth as he returned, “I love you too.”

Happy Birthday

Description: Blurb and edit. Y/n and Chris wake up in London on his birthday.

He was already awake when he felt her stir against him, a soft sigh escaping her slightly agape lips as she burrowed her face into his neck. It was barely six am, the day hadn't quiet cleared yet and to combat London's early morning chill, they were tangled up beneath the duvet; Chris had one arm slung across her silk adorned back, fingers absently trailing up and down her spine, while one of Y/n's arms was draped over his chest and one of her legs and been hooked lazily over one of his. 

"Good morning," he mumbled with a rumbling chuckle as he pressed a kiss to the crown of her head.

"Mm…morning," Y/n returned drowsily, "Happy birthday," she added shortly afterwards and her soft words were joined by a series of warm, chaste pecks peppered into the crook of his neck. Her loose embrace grew tighter too as she offered him an intimate hug. "What are you doing up already? Birthday boys should sleep in a little."

Again, Chris chortled, and they shifted around until half of her body was laid on his, "This birthday boy couldn't sleep," he sighed. He'd been up probably before 5 am, trying not to toss and turn too much so he could avoid waking his sleeping fiance- he had been largely successful in that respect, but had not managed to catch a wink of sleep since then. 

"Jet lag?" She probed curiously, concern etched in her hushed tone, her fingers now tracing soothing patterns over the tattoo on his hip. 

He hummed, "I guess. Time zones are weird," he contemplated out loud.

"They are," Y/n agreed quietly. 

For a while after that, they lapsed into steady, comfortable silence and after some time had passed, Chris had started to think that she'd fallen back asleep when out of the blue, she arched over and pressed a lingering kiss to the area over his heartbeat. "Not that I'm complaining, but what was that for?" 

"It was a thank you," she said simply, the covers shifting as Y/n rolled onto her stomach, propping herself on a crooked elbow and a palm laid flat on his chest

Smiling softly, he too shifted and circled his arms around her, "For what? Being born?" He teased with quiet laughter. 

"That," she leaned down and pecked the side of his lips, and he tried to hold her head there so he could tickle her cheek with his beard, eliciting an episode of loud giggles to disrupt the sleepy dawn, "That," she repeated and Y/n's voice was still shaking with laughter even after he let her head go, "And for choosing me to the be the first person that gets to wish you happy birthday for the rest of our lives."

His cheeks heated up and still holding her close, he rolled them over until he was boxing her in with forearms sunken into the mattress and his chest just a couple inches over hers, "Thank you for saying yes when I asked," he beamed. 

"You never have to thank me for that," she loomed one arm around his neck, tangling her fingers in the back of his hair. "Now," she began again, that time in a sultry tone as she trailed the tip of her toes along the back of his leg, "Are you ready for your first birthday present?"

"So ready," the glint in his gaze turned hungry and that was the last coherent thing either of them said for a while; his birthday was off to a great start.
