"Feminism is a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." Sign me up.
Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day. As a Holocaust Historian, I have specifically devoted myself to working on the history of women and gender in the Holocaust, and bringing those histories ever-closer to mainstream historical memory.
So, I’d like to link you all to a few pieces of writing I’ve done on the topic.
An 11-part post series about Vladka Meed, a Jewish woman who smuggled explosives into the Warsaw Ghetto in preparation of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
A profile of Hannah Szenes, a Hungarian Jewish paratrooper who worked behind Nazi lines in services of the SOE (Special Operations Executive, same as Peggy Carter and Noor Khan).
A thinkpiece about how we misuse the memory of Anne Frank.
An assessment of how Holocaust memory is shaped by male experiences, and an analysis of what we miss through this centering of the male experience.
Panel 1: A big cake on a table on a table has been cut into two slices--a very small one, labelled "pobres" (the poor) and a very large one, labelled "ricos" (the rich). Two people on the poor side look angrily at the man on the rich side.
Panel 2: The rich man has taken a knife to cut the already small "pobres" (poor) slice in half, now marked "izquierda" (the Left) and "derecha" (the Right). The two poor people are now looking angrily at each other while the rich man knowingly smiles.
also in trans news that should be talked about. laverne cox has stated that on saturday her and a friend were assulted in a park and it’s not really getting the same attention as elliot. we can still be proud of him without ingnoring what happened to laverne and her friend.
if you claim ally ship to the trans community then you can’t ignore the bad things that happen to especially trans woc. and if you’re a white trans person you can’t just talk about other white trans people. it just shows that you only care about trans people if they are white and that shouldn’t be the case.
if your gonna talk about elliot please also talk about laverne. she deserves better and we should all do better to raise up the voices of black trans women.
"Wherever they are burning in hell, I bet the founding fathers still enjoy an occasional laugh, in between the screams, when they think about the Electoral College."
Today, November 20, is the Trans Day of Remembrance, a day to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia.
We honor those who found the courage to be true to themselves in the face of transphobia.
Although I am not trans myself, day in and day out, your stories have given me the courage to live life to the fullest and not let adversity and homophobia be my downfall.
Those whose lives were taken shall never be forgotten for they are still among us. They are the very foundation of our community. We are not just a collection of random queer individuals. We have come together with a purpose. There is still a long way to go. We must look up to our trans siblings who were true to themselves despite being condemned, hated on, and taken away from us, and draw courage from them.
Violence and transphobia will never win. Community, truth, and acceptance shall prevail.
In your footsteps of truth and courage I shall follow. Now and always.
I don’t think this proves the point you’re trying to make. Those areas would not be the ones “deciding the votes;” they would count for half of the votes because they make up half of the population. One person gets one vote. It has nothing to do with area because land doesn’t vote, people do.
End the Electoral College. Give statehood to Puerto Rico and Washington DC.
Investigate voter suppression and strengthen voting rights.
First off: there are no states that are mostly cities. If you add the population of NYC (the biggest US city) to the next five biggest cities in New York, that only makes up half of the state's total population. And cities are not monoliths; everyone doesn't vote the same.
The Electoral College is not about fairness; in fact, it gives disproportionate representation to electoral power to the states with the lowest populations. When you take into account the number of electoral votes and the population for each state, a person’s vote is worth more or less based on the state they live in. For example: the vote of a person in Wyoming is worth the most, 3x the average American. On the other hand, the votes of Texans are worth the least. Every vote in the US is not worth the same.
As for ignoring certain states, that’s exactly what happens under the Electoral College. This is a map of the general election campaign events for the 2020 presidential election. The two presidential candidates held over 200 events, visiting just 17 states and ignoring 33 (and the District of Columbia).
The current Electoral College system ensures that 11-12 battleground or swing states hold most, if not all of the electoral power. Former Wisconsin Governor and one-time presidential candidate said the quiet part out loud: “The nation as a whole is not going to elect the next president, 12 states are.”
It should not be controversial to say that every vote in the United States should be worth the same and that election results should reflect the will of the people. The Electoral college is undemocratic, antiquated, and based in racism; it should be abolished.

Two days and the shine has worn off of President Not Trump. If Biden is going to spend four years pandering to Republicans who did fuck all during their time in power and enabled a fascist demagogue because he was in their party, I'm taking my vote back.
This is the biggest news to come out of the 2020 election so far!!!!
**Two Senate runoff elections in Georgia means WE CAN STILL TAKE BACK THE SENATE!**
WE CAN THE SENATE RIGHT OUT OF MITCH MCCONNELL’S DISTURBINGLY PURPLE HANDS.
**It’s a long shot, but if Democrats win both seats, the Senate will be 50-50.**
If you live in Georgia, go to votesaveamerica.com/register to register to vote if you haven’t already. Then remind three friends to register or check their registration and VOTE AGAIN! The special election for both seats will be on January 5th.
Everyone else, get ready to organize/volunteer/call every single voter in Georgia! Let’s take back the Senate!
there is going to be an arguably even more important election than the presidency happening on january 5th in georgia. the two senate seats in their state did not reach enough of a majority in this election to decide a winner, so theyre doing a “run-off election”.
if these two seats are won by democrats they will flip the senate to a MAJORITY for democrats. we will have the presidency, the house AND the senate if the democratic candidates in georgia win. the policies biden promised could have a better chance at being passed!
if you live in georgia PLEASE vote for the democratic senate candidates on january 5th
if you do not, i recommend donating to the candidates election fund! :)
Let's dedicate all of the energy we used resisting Trump's bigoted rhetoric and harmful policies to keeping Biden accountable for making decisions that move us forward.
Enjoy today. Celebrate today. Take a breather today.
But do not let today become the start of complacency. Let today be what starts a fire for years to come to change the world into a better place.
