‘Fourth Of July’ Trailer: Louis C.K. Reveals Secret New Movie But Is Pushing For A Wider Release
Maybe it was only a matter of time now that cancel culture seems to be turning out to be what everyone said it would be (aka, nothing more than a temporary cultural scolding, at most)? In a bid to return to mainstream industry acceptance, comedian Louis C.K. has a new movie on the way and wants the film to get as wide a release as possible. The new movie, which he recently revealed on his website (via THR), “Fourth Of July,” premieres at New York City’s Beacon Theater on June 30.

‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Joseph Kosinski On His Scrapped Sequel: Disney Became More Interested In Marvel & ‘Star Wars’
With “Top Gun: Maverick” finally in theaters and “Spiderhead” on the way to both theaters and Netflix later this month, Joseph Kosinski is having a career moment. And it’s a well-deserved moment. Kosinski’s filmography includes some sturdy and seriously undersung movies, like 2017’s “Only The Brave” and his 2010 debut, “Tron: Legacy.” While neither film entirely won over audiences, they showcase the skills he honed to make “Maverick” one of the best blockbusters in recent memory (read our review).

Scott Speedman On’ Crimes Of The Future,’ ‘Sharp Stick’ & Taking Risks [Interview]
The summer of Scott Speedman is incoming. Fans of the “Felicity” star will get to see a new side of the actor across two indie films that will feel like a distinct change of pace for those familiar with his studio roles in films like the “Underworld” series or “The Vow” – or even recent television roles like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “You.” Speedman makes a brief but scene-stealing appearance as a porn star in Lena Dunham’s upcoming film “Sharp Stick.” There are so many elements to discuss from that film, and the fact that his indelible Vance LeRoy is one of the main talking points serves as a testament to just how effective his characterization is.

Danny McBride Says Kanye West Asked Him To Play Him In A Movie About The Rapper’s Life
What’s the most outlandish casting idea in the history of Hollywood? In a roundtable discussion for The Hollywood Reporter with Bowen Yang, Jake Johnson, Jerrod Carmichael, Michael Che, and Will Forte, Danny McBride may have the best answer to that question imaginable. And given the source of the idea, it kind of sort of makes sense, in an odd way.

‘The Boys’: Jack Quaid Talks Season 3, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer,’ & ‘Scream’ [Bingeworthy Podcast]
Fans of Prime Video’s hit series “The Boys” know what to expect by now – crazy amounts of R-rated superhero action & gore covering an apt and scarily realistic look at modern America’s current political and social climate. Well, fear not, fans! Season three is here to crank the volume up on all of the above to wonderful effect.

For the uninitiated, the irreverent series follows a team of ordinary, everyday humans who are hell-bent on exposing the dark underbelly of the seemingly wholesome Justice League-esque superhero team known as The Seven, who are secretly vapid, self-obsessed celebrities that care more about their popularity than saving human lives.

Family is challenging as it, but it can be even worse when you’re a teenage girl dealing with the fraught cycles of body insecurity and weight issues. That’s essentially the premise of “Family Dinner,” a horror-thriller film from Austrian writer-director Peter Hengl, making its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival next week (technically now known as the Tribeca Festival, but old habits die hard).

Jonathan Kasdan Says Jon Favreau Might Be The Key To ‘Solo’ Characters Reappearing In ‘Star Wars’
Just over four years ago, “Solo: A Story Wars Story” hit theaters to muted praise and middling box-office numbers. In fact, “Solo” is the lowest-grossing “Star Wars” film to date, so by all accounts, if Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of Lucasfilm don’t consider the movie failure, fans, pundits, and nearly everyone else, definitely do. While the financial collapse of the movie precipitated Lucasfilm to pivot to TV (the impending timing of Disney+’s fall 2019 launch working out perfectly), the movie has slowly gained status with diehard “Star Wars” fans since 2018, so perhaps Lucasfilm may reassess its judgment of the film soon enough.

‘Loot’ Trailer: Maya Rudolph Leads A New Workplace Comedy from Apple TV+
For an actress as busy as Maya Rudolph, she keeps a pretty low profile. Since her iconic turn in 2011’s “Bridesmaids,” the versatile veteran has rarely taken on a leading part. Rudolph is more likely to be recognized for her scene-stealing “Saturday Night Live” cameos or her outlandish voice work on animated comedies like “Big Mouth” than for her flesh-and-blood acting.

‘Interceptor’: It’s Elsa Pataky Vs. Nuclear Missles In Netflix’s Entertaining, But Formulaic Actioner
It’s Elsa Pataky versus many nuclear missiles in “Interceptor,” a decent Netflix actioner that embraces its formula a little too much but effectively sells the “Fast Five” breakout star as the next action hero. Pataky stars in the movie as JJ, an ostracized Army captain (more on that in a bit) who is assigned to work in a control room on a secret base in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, which is the last line of defense should any America-bound nuclear missiles come from overseas.

‘This Is Going To Hurt’ Review: Ben Whishaw Leads A Sharp & Darkly Comic Look At England’s Health Care System
Fresh off of its original seven-episode British run on BBC One, Adam Kay’s black comedy-drama “This is Going to Hurt” arrives on AMC this week, ready to give American audiences a taste of its wicked wit. Based on his nonfiction comedy novel of the same name, ‘Hurt’ brings a unique perspective to the UK medical scene circa 2006, providing a hearty dose of sociopolitical commentary in between bone-dry humor and painfully relatable interpersonal drama.

‘Hustle’ Review: Adam Sandler’s Got Game In Boilerplate Basketball Flick
Fans of the Sandman know it’s often feast or famine when the comedic superstar steps away from his traditional juvenile humor. The highs are high, and the lows are low. For every “The Meyerowitz Stories,” there’s “The Cobbler;” for every “Uncut Gems,” a “Reign on Me.” “Hustle,” the latest output from Adam Sandler’s longstanding deal with streaming giant Netflix, marks his rare personal project to occupy a middle ground between these two poles: fulfilling and frustrating in fits and starts.

‘Dashcam’ Review: Rob Savage’s Sophomore Effort Doesn’t Shock Like ‘Host,’ But Remains A Visceral Thrill Ride
With 2020’s “Host,” director Rob Savage was not only one of the first out of the gate to create a COVID-era horror, but he and his creative collective delivered results that far exceeded expectations. It set a new standard for a sub-genre entry, becoming a global pop-culture phenomenon in a way that had not been seen since “The Blair Witch Project.” It’s a masterclass in fear that hits every target it aims for.

‘Freakscene: The Story of Dinosaur Jr.” Review: A Breezy & Lo-Fi Overview Of The Indie-Rock Band
Compelling, breezy, and ultimately a little bit too-surface level, Philipp Reichenheim’s compact documentary “Freakscene: The Story of Dinosaur Jr.” is exactly what the title implies, an overview of the titular indie rock band that saw critical success in the ’80s and ’90s before imploding because of competing egos. Leaning more towards hagiography than tell-all, “Freakscene” does wisely allow the aging rockers — frontman J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow, and drummer Murph — the time and space to discuss their formation and eventual dissolution, but the film is really framed around their 2005 reunion, which has lead to a seven-show run at the Bowery Ballroom and a steady output of albums including last years “Sweep It Into Space.”
