✨ a film for every year of my life ✨ | The Wind That Shakes The Barley (2006) dir. Ken Loach
Your presence here is a crime, a foreign occupation. You tell me what I’m supposed to do as a democrat. Turn the other cheek for another 700 years? Is that it?

something i think a lot of able bodied people dont understand is that being chronically ill affects your emotions. constantly being exhausted and feeling bad is going to make you sad or depressed or angry or jealous. constantly being in pain is going to affect your mental health. never feeling "good" is obviously going to affect the way you act.

Anti-Zionism is not Anti-Semitism.
There may be situations in which these two sentiments overlap, but by and large, they are not the same. Zionism as an idea has evolved over time, and continues to change. While all manifestations of Zionism maintain the central tenet of returning to the ancestral homeland, how or by what reasons those are vary widely.
While a minority within the community, there is such a thing as anti-Zionist Jews.
My own estimation is that by conflating opposition to Zionism as meaning the same thing as hatred and discrimination towards Jews, it reduces any criticism of Zionist practices (i.e., how government and foreign affairs are managed) to only being rooted in hatred. This is a disservice.

ah the astrology tango
"no one really takes it seriously, we're just having fun" -> "okay so people take it seriously but they're right to take it seriously because it's such a good tool for understanding yourself" -> "okay so it might cause you to make bad predictions about people based on the month they were born in and might foreclose on important life opportunities but it's not like it can cause structural harm" -> "okay so sometimes astrology leads to ungrounded discrimination in housing, dating, and employment but those people would be assholes anyway" -> "okay so i have no way of showing that and it does give people conceptual resources to justify certain forms of discrimination and more widespread cultural buy-in would make that problem worse but i like it" -> "shut the fuck up redditor and let people have fun"

Listen, i dont mean to sound like a reddit atheist, but... You ever think about how evangelical Chriatians very literally believe that there will be a genocide in which billions of humans, mostly just innocent everyday people, are condemned to suffer in hell?
And, like, that's the end. That's the finale. Of everything they believe. That's their solution for the world. A final one, if you will.
And they don't rebel. They don't say "hey, wait, that's a bit much" and appeal to their God to maybe reconsider. They don't even seem to really mind.
Instead, they worship. They conjure up an image of a genocidal maniac, and they worship it. The word "praise" is bandied about a lot. Praise. For a leader whose endgoal, very transparently, is genocide.
Suddenly a lot of history makes a little more sense.

personally i think every time someone uses the term cult to refer to something very obviously not a cult (i.e. a friend group, capitalism, a fandom, etc) all cult survivors should immediately receive $20

i can’t believe this apparently needs to be said but y’all. cult jokes are not funny. things like calling yourself a cult leader, calling a friend group or a fandom a cult, joking about starting a cult, ARE NEVER FUNNY. jokes like these diminish the seriousness of cults and spit in the faces of actual survivors. the only time making cult-related jokes is okay is if you are a cult survivor joking about your own trauma.
sincerely, an exhausted cult survivor

brown eyes are beautiful.
brown eyes are dark, rich, and decadent; they remind me of freshly turned earth after rain. sometimes they’re so dark they become inky, almost-black, full of depths you can’t begin to fathom. when sunlight hits them suddenly they are brilliant and clear, like perfectly worn sea glass or water in a stream running over driftwood and stones.
brown eyes are beautiful.

i love how people will post about "calling you culturally christian is a NEUTRAL descriptor! we're just labeling you what you are, so don't get offended!" and then turn around and attribute every conservative belief to cultural christianity, every kind of religious ignorance to cultural christianity, and make long posts about how "culturally christian" ideas (which are definitely universal to christians and an inherent part of the religion /s) are pwned by progressive accepting "culturally jewish" ideas (which are definitely accepted by all jewish people and represent the general theological consensus /s).
