تخبلين sounds like something Iraqi or from the gulf, while I understand it, I don't think I'll be able to accurately make a good list in that particular dialect.

In general, or at least in my dialect (Levantine) girls usually use some terms that are commonly romantic between friends as terms of endearment, for example

حَبيِبْتِي ḥabībtī (my beloved)

عُيَونِي ʿyounī (my eyes)

قَلْبِي ʾalbī (my heart)

عُمْرِي ʿumrī (my life : in the sense of the years of my life)

حَيَاتِي ḥayātī (my life : in the sense of the life I'm living)

يَا قَمَر yā ʾamar (i.e "you moon"; I know it sounds weird but you're telling her she's pretty. trust me)

If you want to tell your friend she looks great in a photo you can say

منَوْرَة mnawwrah (you are dazzling)

بتجنني betjanninī (you drive people crazy i.e. you look stunning)

مَا أَحْلاكِ mā aḥlākī (you look so pretty)

قَمَرْ يَا نَاس ʾamar yā nās (people, look at this moon)

My boyfriend is from Dubai and speaks Arabic with his family. If I wanted to learn Arabic, would I have to learn MSA first, or the dialect he uses? Also, how would I know what dialect that is without asking him?

Hi anon,

My recommendation is to start learning the MSA, at least get an understanding of the structure of the language then you can start leaning the dialect of your choice. It'll make things easier in my opinion.

You don't have to delve too deep into it, just get a general understanding of how the language works in terms of sentence order and grammar and phonetics, then you can learn the dialect.

I personally have the shortcut on my phone. I'm not great when it comes to tech tutorials but I'll my best to explain. I followed this hack a couple of years ago and it worked but I'm not sure if there has been any changes to the way the settings are called now.

You know how you can type the shortcuts on the keypad? for example omw so that the phone will write "on my way" automatically or lmk "let me know"?

Copy the symbol ﷺ, and paste it into the settings in your phone where you can add to your personal dictionary. Use the word "SAW" for example so that when you type it, your phone will automatically fill in ﷺ.

Hi, I had a question about how to refer to non human plural nouns in Arabic dialects. I’m not sure how familiar you are with the Egyptian dialect but this might be something that happens in other dialects too. I often hear people refer to nonhuman plurals with the pronoun هم in spoken Arabic rather than ها and I was wondering if nonhuman plurals are always done this way in dialect or if it’s just sometimes, and if verbs would take the هم form too. Egyptian dialect isn't my native dialect but I've also hear them say it.

It's probably a dialectal difference, for example in the rural levantine dialects you can encounter people referring to inanimate objects or non-human غير العاقلas هن

I'm not sure if there is a logic behind this choice of wording or it's just that people have found certain ways easier than others, but it's an interesting observation.

In standard Arabic though, for singular non-human items it's either هو - هي depending if it's masculin or feminin, but for non-human plurals we use (singular feminin) هي

If you're referring to this list, I segregated the movies into MSA / dialects. Generally speaking, the studios will dub the movies into MSA, even the animated series are in MSA.

But disney movies are a different story : the older disney movies are in Egyptian dub. They recently started making disney in MSA but people were super mad so as a compromise they started mixing the two. I didn't include any mixed movies on the list though. I personally prefer having a movie either entirely in MSA or in dialects

I didn't watch the all the movies, but I would scroll to various parts of the movie and see what dialect is being spoken. But I have watched many of them personally.

The older disney movies (I think all the works dubbed before 2010) were in Egyptian dialect. The dubbed anime (especially the ones dubbed by Alzahra center) are in MSA, and usually these are series.

If you're looking to download a movie, I suggest trying using the torrents. If there's a movie you're interested in let me know I'll look up a download link and if I can find a torrent file I'll share it with you.
