Guarded By the Lunar Goddess
She had a dream catcher shaped like a crescent moon hanging above her bed
A reminder of her guardian watching over her while she slept
With every thread woven between the wood and wool
Her nightmares and fears became entangled in its complex web
Preventing them from reaching her conscious
So she could sleep soundly
With Artemis by her side

Under the light of the moon she finds herself
Under the light of the moon she feels her power
Under the light of the moon she becomes one with the divine

May the Sun God Bless Me
Apollo grant me the gift of inspiration
With your sun kissed hands bless my mind
With words that flow together effortlessly
And portray the intimate beauty that is held within nature and the divine
Shed light on my heart and illuminate my soul with inspiration to write

A Manifestation Prayer
Help me accept the changes in my life
With grace but not passivity
And trim away those who I am outgrowing
Let my mind expand
Like the branches of the tree of life
And eventually surrender to the divine

The Fairy Circle
The gentle breeze rustles the wind chimes bells signaling to the fairies hiding in the grass that it is time for them to reveal themselves
Crawling out from underneath lily petals and climbing up the cattails they follow
The fading light of the evening sun as it sets beyond the horizon
They tiptoe underneath the hose that drips water every so often
Dancing until the moon rises high in the sky
To the beat of the bells above

Passing Into the After Life
Your skin smelled like chamomile
In the springtime
And lavender in the fall
Your lips were once as pink as rose quartz
But now they’re the pale lilac of amethyst
As your soul fades back into the soil
Returning to the earth

The Ritual
The cauldron smoldered as she dropped one herb after another into the cast iron bowl
A pentagram engraved on the side providing protection for the ritual she was performing
She stirred the concoction clockwise with the intention of attracting knowledge from an unseen realm
Allowing herself to release her being into the brew
And become one with the magic before her

Growing Up
Someday they will trade in their bicycles
For car keys
And their innocence will slowly fade away
Into the past
With their beloved
Childhood memories

The Tarot Reader
She flipped through her cards meticulously. Sensing their energy. Knowing that one of them contained knowledge of her future. She pulled one from the middle. It was an armored skeleton riding a white horse. The most feared and misinterpreted card that was in the deck. Death. She wasn’t surprised. She anticipated this. She could feel the change in the air around her. It sent a chill down her spine and into her fingertips. But she knew not to be afraid of what was to come. She needed to embrace her transformation and the challenges it would bring head on so she could connect with her highest form of herself.

My Muse
I want to draw you
The curve of your jaw
The angles of your cheekbones
The bow of your lips
You’re a living masterpiece
Breathing in life before my very eyes
You make my heart skip a beat
Every time I take you in

Climbing the Mountain
Tell me your secrets
And I’ll tell you mine
Will we withstand the test of time?
Or will we crumble under the pressure
Of fulfilling what is expected of us

Stranger with a Familiar Face
The heartbreak does fade away
But instead of dissolving with the memories of the good times that will never be recreated,
The smiles and laughs shared encapsulated in the past,
Frozen by medusa's bitter glare,
Envious of what we once had
But when it fades it is merely replaced
With bitterness and resentment
Toward every heartfelt love letter
Ever poured into a page and delivered to you
Anger at being abandoned
When so many empty promises were made to remain by one another's side through it all
But people change
And sometimes that's harder to swallow
Than having them string you along as if they're the same person you went to bed with the night before
Because at least you knew who they were before
Rather than being nothing more than a stranger with a familiar face

A Day at the Beach
I trace your outline in the sand
An attempt to recreate the memories we shared
But it's hard to do when we're nothing more than ghosts of each other's pasts
Your essence is slipping through my fingers
I know you're not coming back

Opening the Gates of Hell
Gargoyles flanked either side of the building
She took a deep breath in
And exhaled her worries for the world to tend to
She knew her purpose
Reluctantly she entered the building
Knowing that she would emerge transformed
The foyer was quiet and still
Candles flickered casting shadows on the walls
Illuminating the doubts that filled her mind
She cast them away with a shake of her head
She couldn’t let the fear consume her
She stared at the mahogany double doors before her
She had to be strong in order to face what was behind them
Her heels clicked as she took a step towards it
With a trembling hand she reached for the brass knob
It was cold beneath her fingertips
With baited breath she turned it over
The door creaked open
Revealing an empty chamber with chains and shackles adhered to to the walls
The prison she had confined herself to for many years
She felt a gust of wind brush past her
As her demons were released to roam the outside world
That she had tried to protect for far too long
