The bad kids are insane this episode. It's crit city. It's tactical genius. They are blowing through the kinds of monsters that make most dnd parties shit themselves. They've come SO FAR from the scared kids who died to cream corn and I am LIVING for the sheer competency on display here. No one is doing it like the bad kids are doing it.

okay but shout out to adaine for this battle, the ABSOLUTE MVP

dust mephits all across the field that when they died ended up blinding like half of the enemies they fought

two AMAZING portent rolls, the first helping gorgug avoid like 44 points of fire damage and keep concentration, the second an absolutely LEGENDARY crit for fig that pretty much SINGLEHANDEDLY decimated the wyvern before it could get anywhere near the proctor

an absolutely clutch Scatter getting the proctor out of harms way, fabian out of being restrained, and kristin up on the ledge which let her be able to see kipperlily and oisin in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!

and she helped fig with that limerick : ) sisters of all time

buddy dawn was always going to be used by the rat grinders.

he was specifically requested - there was some sort of plan in place when they asked for an out-of-town cleric of kristen’s former god to enroll in their school and join their recently shattered party.

and, no, this probably wasn’t the original plan.

perhaps, in stealing his diamonds, kipperlily was securing his inability to fulfill the oath of bringing the bad kids back, forcing him to lose his magic.

maybe she always intended to sacrifice him.

slitting his throat, of course, was a reaction to being clocked by kristen, a hasty move, a hope of trapping them in. but she likely never intended for him to survive the year, if the choice was that easy.

and your heart has to break, slightly, for this child. who was raised in a cult, who likely couldn’t tell he was being used by everyone around him. who was maybe, just maybe, starting to get the tools that could one day help him see those things. but it was cut short by someone he probably believed to be a friend.

maybe buddy dawn was always going to remain what he was, an evangelist who believes so strongly in the power of their god that anyone who thinks differently is strange and wrong, that they will have final say on the morality of the world at large. but maybe he wasn’t. and no, i didn’t think he was going to make it out of this season alive. but i didn’t think it would turn out like that.

what kipperlily didn’t see, in her haste to leave the crime scene, was further proof that she’s always been wrong about kristen. because kristen cares. she was willing to possibly incriminate herself by searching buddy’s body for some way to bring him back. she was willing to reach out to her already struggling god to try to bring him back. and the bad kids, too. they were disappointed they couldn’t help him right away. they set up a way to watch his body and have evidence if it was disturbed.

Y’all when I tell you the visceral reaction I had when Kipperlilly slit Buddy’s throat… Like girl that was supposed to be your friend, you’ve (probably) spent hours in the forest at this point hunting rats with him. You even (possibly) made his weird grandpa come teach at the so you could say fuck you to the Bad Kids. Was he just a pawn in your plan does loyalty mean nothing to you???? Literally hoping that Buddy meets Helio and converts to a cooler god (Cassandra, Ankarna, YES?(!)) It would be so silly if he speedran freshman year Kristen’s arc, gay awakening and converting to YES! included.
