Star City was just the way Artemis had left it before going off the grid. Sure, it had been a month, and a "research opportunity" was a good cover, but it was more to make sure she was safe enough after the eventful months. But she was back. Back to her old apartment with her pets, and she was glad to be back. The first thing that the blonde did was have her own mini celebration: go to the local bar, flirt for a few drinks, and relax. Maybe call up Zee or M'gann. They didn't exactly know why she disappeared, but it was for everyone's own good. At least, that was what Artemis's thought process decided. Slipping into the bar, she grinned at the bartender. "Whatever's on tap. And keep it coming."

It was already a rough night. Overworking, misplacing an important file for a good chunk of an hour, and all after coming home from an extended undercover thing that she had done with her dealings with the Star City underground.

“Whatever’s on tap. And please keep it coming.”  

Using his powers at work wasn’t something Buddy liked to do often, but when there was a rush  a little monkey agility never hurt much. He offered the other a grin as he flipped a bottle in the air.

Jade stepped aside to let her sister in, trying not to look too smug. “The kids are doing well. Lian’s up in her room and Tommy’s asleep out in the living room. A shame you didn’t get here while he was still awake.” Not that she thought he would be sleeping for long. He seemed to wake up every few hours, even at three months old. “Come in, make yourself at home. I’ll go get Lian. I’m sure she’ll be happy to see you.”

“Damn. It is a shame. Hands full with the pair?” At the request to come inside, she had nearly forgotten how to move. A shallow breath, and it was as if everything was fine again. Looking around, the blonde had took in the atmosphere. “It suits you here,” she spoke, going over to sit down in a nearby chair. “Ah, my favorite niece,” a smile began to form on Artemis’s face. Every interaction that she had with Lian had gone pleasant. Then again, it had been a while and it had been closer to when she was a baby.

Artemis didn’t know what compelled her to go into the music shop. Maybe it was the atmosphere. It had some sort of therapeutic effect on her. There weren’t too many people in there, and when she left, the sound of the violin had almost completely stopped Artemis. It was beautiful. “Erm, sorry,” she hadn’t realized she had been staring. “You’re a natural.” 

This was a stupid idea. She didn’t need a violin; there were plenty of other things that money could go towards. But her fingers itched to do something other than fire arrows, and they could afford to splurge a little. Outside the store, Dani pulled the instrument out of its case and began to play, forgetting where she was until she realized she was being watched and stopped.

Personally, Artemis didn’t know too much about Zatanna’s cousin. She knew he was a magician, she knew he did shows, and she’s maybe seen him a total of two times. And didn’t really say much either of those times. Maybe a hello, maybe a goodbye, but she honestly couldn’t think of anything else. That is, until she happened to see him at the coffee shop that she had frequented. In fact, he was just right in front of her when she got there. Clearing her throat a little bit, she began. “Didn’t know I get my coffee from the same place as a famous guy.”

M’gann was lost in her own mind as she made her way back from work. She had helped save a rabbit’s life today, and was feeling pretty good. She was torn from her thoughts as she heard her true name. Turning she gasped. “Artemis!” She ran up to the girl, giving her a hug. “I was just talking to Zatanna about getting in contact with you again!” she laughed. “It’s so good to see you, it’s been forever! How have you been?”

At the touch of the hug, Artemis tensed for a moment before relaxing at the feeling. It had been a while she had seen her former teammate. She lost contact with her a while back and she had wanted to get back in contact. “Really?” Artemis looked a little surprised, a small smile forming on her lips. “It really has been. I’m surprised you came to good old Star City. But I’ve been alright. Same old same old. What about you?”

Halloween had remained Zatanna’s absolute favorite over the years, and being able to spend it with her best friend made it a million times better. Really, their first Halloween together had been the true start of their friendship, and that made it extra special. When Artemis arrived, Zatanna bounded over to her door happily and pulled it open to greet her. “Oooh, both?” She laughed, and gestured her in before reaching forward to take the pumpkins so her friend had less to carry. “This, is going to be a perfect night!”

Looking thankful when the pumpkins she had lugged had been taken away, her smile that she had previously had formed into a bigger beam. “Your trick is I didn’t bring some of that Halloween candy that I originally thought I was going to. Sorry about that. I did bring some popcorn, though, so you really can’t completely blame me for trying. But the treat?” Artemis had given a dramatic pause, her face growing serious for a moment. “The treat... that’s shared company on one of the best nights of the year.”

Jade smiled at the knock on her door, knowing who to expect. She had been the one to ask their mom to push the idea after all. She knew her sister wouldn’t respond to her, so she had called in backup. She checked on Thomas one last time before getting up to open the door. “Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up,” she smirked.

Sighing when the door began to open, Artemis feigned a smile. “Yeah, yeah, look what the cat dragged in.” She had to remind herself that her sister wasn’t completely awful. Sure, they had a complicated relationship at best, but what about their family wasn’t just a complicated mess. Besides, she seemed to mellow out a little bit when she had her children. Sure that wouldn’t make them best friends, but they were better than they had been years ago. “How are the kids doing?”

Although Artemis would love to say that her favorite part of her day was the walk home, it really wasn’t. Usually, she had been so frazzled based on whatever the lab had been working on that day. Today was no different. As she walked down the street, she walked right by a woman, not thinking much of it. However, as soon as the face clicked in her mind 3 seconds later, she spun on her heels. It had taken a phone call from her mother, scolding on both ends of the phone, and an address before Artemis had gotten directions to where her sister was staying in Star City. She wasn’t doing this for herself. No, it had been more for her mother and the relationship she would foster with her niece and new nephew. After finding parking, Artemis walked up to the door, her hand hovering for a moment before goading herself to knock.

Jade strolled through the isles of the grocery store, taking her time. Her mother was watching the kids, so she wasn’t quite ready to head back home. She cast her eyes around, looking for the items on her list, but paused when she caught someone’s eye. “Well don’t you look cute,” she smirked.

As Artemis had walked into the grocery store, she had her list out and ready. Eggs, bread, orange juice- her thought process was interrupted as the blonde walked into an aisle. “Jade,” she muttered, staring at her sister from across the way. Looking away, she considered walking out until she realized she had been spotted too. “How long have you been in Star City?”

ZZ: Ugh. Shitshitshit, those are both terrifying to think about.

ZZ: Fucking yes right they won't. No asshole's gonna get you to leave when we're finally living in the same city again.

ZZ: I'm positive. Brucely would be sad without you and I'd be worried out of my mind with you all alone.

ZZ: It sounds like they want you to leave the city. You won't be leaving the city if you stay with me, and you'll be safe. At least just tonight? Then we can go back tomorrow in the daytime and figure out a better plan than 'Art sits around in her pile of weapons waiting for crazy attackers to come find her'. I'm coming over. [the proclamation is accompanied by her switching to speakerphone and the sounds of her grabbing some clothes. her voice is slightly distant but at a louder volume when she speaks again.]

ZZ: ... Do you really think they'll come back? I didn't exactly pick up that many detectiving skills from our batty friends, but I don't think that's a usual thing home invaders do? Not that these are normal home invaders, but... what if they attack you at work, or while you're out?

AC: Zee, it'll be fine. I've been incredibly careful. Maybe it's not that. Maybe it's just a random thing....

AC: Exactly! I am not leaving this godforsaken city if that means I have to leave behind such a great person again.

AC: [she sighs into her phone and rolls her eyes] I know, I know. I should probably stay with you. Yeah yeah. Just tonight. I'll pack up an overnight bag. [she pauses, in thought.] After a good night's sleep, we'll talk about it.

AC: I don't know. They didn't find anything it seems. But that doesn't mean I can't rule it out. I'll just have to be on high alert.
