Peter doesn’t realize how infatuated Tony is with him. Sure he heard Tony mention “his very favorite avenger” or “the best scientist in the building”, but Peter doesn’t realize that Tony’s talking about him.

And sure sometimes there are sentences like “like my favorite person once said ‘you can’t be the friendly neighborhood superhero if there’s no neighborhood’” and he’s like “hey I said that once. Too bad he doesn’t mean me”. And like it’s just hilarious

"I love you, you know?" Peter said, breaking the silence in the lab, the ease of the words were similar to how someone would ask what you wanted for lunch.

Tony tensed, his shoulders stiffening and he was lost for words for too long, just sitting there, eyes wide, staring at the machine in front of them. Peter allowed him his time, waiting until Tony turned around and began talking before interrupting him.

"No, Pete, we can't-"

"Hey, stop." Peter said, the confidence in his voice was throwing Tony off balance slightly. "I just told you a fact. It is a fact, it is." He said, turning and meeting Tony's eye with a small shrug, hands shaking but nothing else showed any nerves. "I am not saying you need to put anything forward or even agree with what I am saying, but-"

"Pete-"

"No. Let me talk." Peter interrupted firmly. "Love is one of the most basic of the human emotions and am not pretending that I don't feel it anymore. You don't feel the same? Okay. But I am not going to make out I don't think you are the most amazing man I have ever met." Peter said, getting more confident as he spoke, a small laugh matching his dismissive hand gestures. "Fuck. You are just incredible and I love you. I think you are stunning, a genius, so funny and you just get me, you make me feel safe. So, Tony Stark, I love you." He said, looking at Tony and nodding, "Now, can I have the wrench please?"

Tony is just in a state of shock, not even processing as he passes Peter the wrench.

I’m feeling angsty, so imagine this:

Peter and Tony have been in a secret relationship for a while now. Or you now more like a friendship plus. Peter doesn’t really know what this is. He wants more and is desperately in love with Tony but Tony is mostly using him for relief every once in a while and doesn’t seem like he’s interested in more (at least that’s what Peter thinks). Tony and May are good friends so May invited him over for thanksgiving, and of course Peter would be there too. She’s been getting suspicious of him for a while, him disappearing for what she thinks are dates and reappearing with hickeys all over. So she keeps asking him and pressuring him about his “boyfriend” and Peter finally relents and says he’s going to ask him to thanksgiving. Now, he can’t ask Tony to come as his boyfriend since the man doesn’t think like that and also May would probably get a heart attack. So he asks Harry to pretend to be his boyfriend. And good how he is, he also tries to tell Tony that he’s going to bring a fake boyfriend, but Tony doesn’t let him talk the next time they see each other and he doesn’t really pick up the phone when Peter tries calling. One time Peter did tell him but Tony doesn’t show any reaction so Peter isn’t even sure if Tony was listening. So thanksgiving comes around and Peter of course brings Harry and they’re playing the lovey-dovey couple pretty well. Tony seemed a bit surprised at the beginning and a bit tense through dinner, but ultimately he acted pretty normal (he doesn’t seem to like harry, but that might also be his last name). Except after thanksgiving he seems to be evading Peter and when they actually see each other he’s awfully harsh and doesn’t touch him. And suddenly there’s news articles about his pretty, female dates to various events. And then May tells Peter that Tony will bring his girlfriend around for christmas for the first time and how awfully excited she is that Tony finally found someone who makes him happy. And Peter is feeling more miserable by the day, wishing he never started anything with Tony because clearly the man didn’t care for him, dumping him without even telling him and crushing Peter’s heart carelessly. Harry doesn’t have time to play his boyfriend for Christmas again and Peter couldn’t stomach playing being in love again anyway. He just pretends they broke up, being able to explain his awfully sad mood behind the excuse. It’ll give him the possibility to just go to his room when Tony and his girlfriend inevitably are going to be too much for him. He doesn’t even notice the thoughtful look Tony gives him for most of the day or how much Tony ignores his girlfriend.

Imagine Peter figuring out Tony is dead after Avengers:End game. Like Happy comes up to him trying to keep his cool and not explode with tears. And Peter keeps asking “Where’s Mr.Stark?”. All Happy can say is “He’s gone.” Peters whole world just shuts down and he doesn’t know what to do with himself. He backs away from the hand that Happy put on his shoulders. He runs out while tears stream down his face, his heart aching. He starts to swing, trying to find his way to his apartment. Too many tears are running down his face and he tries moving them out of the way. Happy’s words hitting him hard. When Peter finally reaches his apartment he gets into his room as fast as he can, not even bothering to be quiet. He slammes the door shut, locking it to make sure no one walks in. Aunt May’s voice is heard behind the door, her voice his filled with concern. She asks Peter what’s wrong and begs him to open the door. But no response is given. Peter sits in the corner of his room. Holding his legs to his chest, still not knowing what to do with himself. All he can think about is Tony. His Tony. He calls out “Karen” his suit activating. “Yes, Peter?” He lets out a sob, “C-can you um, plea-please play back all the uummm, the calls me and Mr-mr.S-sark and I have h-had?” “Of course” Peter listens to all of them. Crying and rembering. Crying and remembering is all he does, all he can do. He finally falls alsleep to the voice of the man that he loved dearly. The voice of the man that will always be in Peter’s heart. The man that he will never forget.
