this!! sometimes it's okay to set tight schedules if it means you'll suffer less later. self care also means being strict with yourself and doing things you don't want to sometimes. <3
my personal curse is the knowledge that I function best with rigid structure and strict routine but am almost totally incapable of independently establishing or maintaining that structure and routine

mr keatings is invaluable
some reasons why i love dead poets:
•i really love how relatable and relevant it is??? from todd being too shy to read out his poem to neil wanting to follow his dreams but being held back by his parents because of his studies; the characters were so well written and really made me feel like i was a part of their group
•just the fact that mr keatings (played by one of my favourite actors of all time) was the embodiment of a perfect teacher. have i dreamt about reciting poetry in dark caves and standing up on desks and ripping apart books that try to define poetry?? yes i have. and it's all because of this film.
•just the entire aesthetic- from the old school building to the uniforms and the autumn leaves and muted earthy tones, this film was very pleasant to watch.
•i can't talk about this film without mentioning the beautiful phrases! i sound my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world! two roads diverged in the wood and i...i took the one less travelled by... and that has made all the difference (who doesnt love a good robert frost quote?) and of course- carpe diem. the phrase that i and many other devoted fans of the film recite to ourselves every once in a while when life seems too gray.
•i have only one thing to say- the entire dialogue of mr keatings about how science, maths and other subjects are necessary for life; but art is necessary because it keeps our soul alive. this made me smile so big the first time i watched it.
•just the way they showed Neil's death- silent, yet a real heartbreaker. we were rooting for him! we needed him to follow his dreams! and yet when the gunshot was heard, we all fell apart.
•Todd's reaction was so apt. the boy he looked up to, his friend, his companion- a person he resonated with just disappeared from his life. seeing this scene just made our hearts break a little more, made the tears fall down a little harder. it just hit us right where it hurts.
Tumblr media
overall, just a film i am willing to watch a million times over!!

My Cousin Vinny (1992) dir- Jonathan Lynn
some facts about the movie i find interesting-
•this is one of my favourite movies. a lot of people were considered for the role of vinny gambini, (including robert de niro and danny devito) but joe pesci was cast finally.
•the character of mona lisa vito (played by marisa tomei) was almost cut out of the film entirely, but the scene about the 'biological clock' was what saved it finally.
•this movie is extremely accurate pertaining to the legal court parts of the film, and clips are also shown in law schools
•vinny gambini was originally supposed to be dyslexic
•will smith was originally considered for the role of stanley rothenstein played by mitchell whitfield
•the scenes in the prison were shot in a real prison with real prisoners shouting at the actors in the scene (mitchell whitfield as stan and ralph machhio as gambini)

(i may or may not know this film by heart heh)
