Honkai Star Rail: Wubbaboo
I have been enjoying final closed beta (CBT3) streams of Honkai Star Rail by Hoyoverse/Mihoyo. The Wubbaboo quest was so cute and sad.  I doodled a Wubbaboo!
This has been cross-posted to deviantart and Ko-Fi!  Might post on Twitter too... Maybe.

[UPDATE] A4 Genshin Impact File Folder: Bongo-Head
Tumblr media
Fan-Made Merchandise, A4 Size
Now Available at my Bigcartel Shop! Purchase Here
I'm super excited to present my first physical fan-made merchandise item.  As a stationery lover for many years, I love office supplies.
But, often the office supplies at the store come in plain colors.  Sometimes, I would see collaborative designs at a specialty store, like Sanrio for Hello Kitty.  But others, I would only see at artist alley at anime conventions or as giveaways from industry events, especially outside Asia.  I hope this Bongo-Head file folder makes you happy.  I miss Bongo-Head so much. Hopefully we could be reunited in a future event.  When the fabulous fungi frenzy event ended and Bongo-Head left us, it gave me Pokémon Butterfree vibes.  Butterfree left ash to go off with his shiny girlfriend.
This file folder is made from PVC material and fits paper sized A4, US Letter, and under.
The bottom two photos were the photos I received from my manufacturer who showcases the colors under different light conditions.  I have previously shared them on tumblr and on twitter.  The product you purchase will not have the sample watermark.

[UPDATE] Genshin Impact File Folder: Bongo-Head - SAMPLE Photos
Fan-made Merchandise, A4 size
These are the sample photos I received from the manufacturer. Photos displays front/back side of the file folder.  I am eagerly awaiting the shipment.  It is probably going to be further delayed due to COVID19.
This is a very small production, 50 pieces.  After finishing up my holiday gifts, I plan to put any remainder I have onto bigcartel.

i’m frustrated
I have previously requested support to reenable javascript for pages on specific blogs I run...
They did reenable the feature, but only on my main blog.  I’m frustrated I can’t make the pages on the blog I want to put the pages on.  I think the the overall blogs would be more cohesive if the pages had the same subdomain rather than linking via a redirect to another blog’s subdomain.

Marc Martin x Milligram Limited Edition Notebook Review
Tumblr media
Limited Edition A5 Dot Grid Notebook from Milligram Australia
80 gsm, Taiwanese Maple Paper | Fountain Pen Friendly
Tumblr media
This is the Marc Martin x Milligram limited edition notebook set from Milligram Australia.  I purchased this in 2020 and finally got around to using it over the last couple months for daily use.  The dot grid is subtle and makes it convenient for bullet journaling and drawing graphs/diagrams without a full grid paper.
I quite like this a lot.  The pages hold up well to different kinds of pens and markers.  I do notice it may take a bit of time to dry depending on how wet the ink is. As you can see in the above photo, there is some smudging of the ink with the Uni/Uniball Signo Bit Gel Pen.  I have also noticed that fountain pen ink can smudge if I don’t remember to blot the paper beforehand or if I use a broader nib or a wet ink.
Tumblr media
When it comes to fountain pen friendly paper, I am most concerned about feathering and bleed.  I am less concerned about ghosting in my daily use notebooks.
Feathering is when the ink spreads out through the paper fibers sorta like a feather.  Bleed is when the ink seeps through and is visible on the other side of the page.
Ghosting is when you notice the writing on the other side of the paper but it does not hinder your writing on the side of paper that you are currently using.
In the third photo above, you can see that there is ghosting since I can tell there is writing on the other side of the page.  But, I do not notice feathering or bleeding.  I like how the paper is not too thick and is suitable for a daily notebook.
I would likely purchase another Taiwanese Maple Paper notebook by Milligram Australia.  I do not think this notebook set is still available with these limited edition covers.

wow
The past week I’ve gotten a wild rush of inspiration... I guess that’s how Albedo feels (Calyx) at times.
Now, I want to make fan-made merchandise.  I think my skills are too crappy for it... I don’t think people would want to buy it.
But, I just want the sample in my hands and it would make me very happy.

I feel like book piracy has become so normalized now and its honestly so ugly and disappointing. Like I totally understand that some people in other countries have straight up no library access but for people in the US/UK?? saying that pubs are their 'free trial' without even trying to use a library??? I truly think younger readers using them don't realize how badly it could fuck an author over
i think book piracy comes down to people not understanding the differences between the film industry and the book industry. i don’t fully understand the film industry bc it’s not my focus, but i do know that pirating movies or shows is not going to directly impact the actors and/or the little people behind the movie or show. (if someone wants to elaborate on how, please do! i’m not really sure.)
however, pirating books is going to directly impact authors, not publishers or CEOs or any other bigwigs. an author is paid thus: they sign a contract for a certain amount of money, say, $100,000 for a two-book deal. that means that each book will be (technically) worth $50,000. depending on the contract, a check will be written for $25,000 upon the author turning in the version of the manuscript that the editor bought. that check will go to the author’s agent, who will take their 15% commission, which will be $3,750. then, the agent will send the remaining $21,250 to the author, minus taxes. with that same scenario, a check with the remaining $25,000 will be written upon the author turning in the final copy of the manuscript, aka the version that will go to the printer, and the process repeats (the check is sent to the agent, the agent takes their 15%, the author gets the remaining $21,250, minus taxes).
that’s not where this story ends, though: in every contract is a thorough section detailing royalties, aka how much the author will receive per sale of a copy of their book in the book’s entire lifespan. if an agent is good, this will be one of their most important areas they focus on during negotiations. it’s imperative that people know that royalties can make or break an author’s career. it’s better to have larger royalties than a larger advance, bc an advance is only once, whereas royalties will continue as long as the book continues to sell (hardcover, paperback, audiobook, ebook, etc). the higher the author’s advance, the more pressure there is for the author to break even, aka for the author to make back the $50,000 spent on that first book. in a worst case scenario, if an author doesn’t earn back their advance (a big turn of phrase in publishing), they could have book 2 canceled, or they could possibly never be able to sell another book to a publisher again due to a poor sales record. in that case, it’s likely the author will have to re-debut under a pen name so the publisher backing them can treat them like a debut author. or, you’ll see an author’s first printings tank between book 1 and 2 or book 2 and 3 etc etc. for instance, Enchantee by Gita Trelease had a first hardcover printing of 175,000 copies (which is big for a debut!), while book 2 of that series, Everything That Burns, has a first hardcover printing of 75,000 copies. now, i can’t see the sales numbers, but it seems likely a lack of sales is the culprit here.
so when people say that pirating books will directly influence whether or not your favorite author gets to publish more books, they really mean it. it won’t affect the publisher (who has massive protections in place) nearly as much as it will affect the author (who doesn’t have those same protections), and it could mean that your favorite author never gets to finish that series you love or can never publish another book again. in conclusion, don’t pirate books, kids.
