EU-day
“Finally the borders in Europe have been lowered and we can have one community and free movement for the people, for goods and, above all, for work.” - Alcide de Gasperi, first Prime Minister of the Italian Republic
You thought you’d be getting only one post? HA! Surprise! ♥
Italy: Why are you wearing sneakers, Germany?
France: If you don’t have any, you could have asked me, you know?
Germany: I honestly did not expect any of you to wear high-heels. Except for France.
Netherlands: Where do you think I got mine from?
Belgium: Inspired by this poster from the 50s, we have decided to dress up in our finest skirts and suits to clebrate this special occasion. I went on to improvise my outfit of the day a little bit, as you can see ;)

Happy EU-day from ask-the-eu6 ♥
Germany: Who took that picture?
EU-day is on the 9th of May and celebrates the peace and unity the EU provides. It also marks the anniversary of Robert Schuman’s declaration from 1950; the suggestion to create a coal and steel association in Europe.
Europe still suffering from the destructive aftermaths of the war back then and Schuman hoped this would prevent such wars from ever happening again, especially considering Germany and France would be part of this community.
And now? The EU grew and flourished into what it is today. And that’s worthy of a celebration! More can be read here and here (link) you can read more about Schuman’s declarion (link)

Hi France ^^
How is your figth with UK over the fishing boats?
France : It’s going great! That little bastard wouldn’t let me get fish! He’s doing it on purpose !! He’s trying to make me starve !!!
Germany : Little bastard? You two are the same height... and you’re not going to starve.
France : Of course not! I’m not gonna let him win! I’ll be right back...
Netherlands : And off he goes! That’s been going on for a while. And this is probably what's happening in their heads :
Tumblr media
Luxembourg : But in fact, here's what it really looks like :
Tumblr media
Belgium : They’ll find any excuse to fight. Although most of the time, they sound more like this :
Tumblr media
Mun notes under the cut :
Without making this political, basically, many fishermen in northern France go and fish in waters belonging to the UK for some species, especially aroung Jersey and Guernesey which are very close to the French coast. After Brexit, the procedure for them to get a permit to enter the UK’s national waters was changed/became more complex. Many boats were left waiting for months to get their permit renewed or didn’t get one at all. They became angry since that directly impacted their daily life and their income.
The government got involved and accued the UK of doing this on purpose as retaliation against the Brexit negotiations that weren’t going their way, and also to be able to sell the fish in France at a higher price. (Apparently, many British fishermen sell their fish in France which is one of the reasons why there was an agreement to allow the boats to go into the other country’s national waters).
And so the bickering “started” between the two governments including a threat from France to cut the electricity to Jersey and Guernesey since they are connected to the French electric network. I say “started” with the “ “ because to be honest, the bickering never really stops. One time it’s about fishing boats, another time it’s about sausages, there’s always gonna be a pretext.
Eventually, almost everyone got their permit back after some negotiations. Anyway, thank you @dinamo123xp for your ask !!

How are the rest dealing with the King's Day celebrations at Netherlands' house
Tumblr media
Belgium: Well... eh.. Him and his people go absolutely insane usually. It's not even that much about the king anymore.
France: Good. Just the idea of a kings celebration in my country makes me wanna go grab the guillotine I still have laying around somewhere in the basement.
Germany: There's a guillotine in the basement???
France: :)
Luxembourg: Anyway, yeah, it's just a lot of orange, a lot of alcohol and dru... I mean and a lot of partying!
Belgium: Although before the partying he still tries to sell all his stuff he doesn't need or want anymore at the "Vrijmarkt" or free market.
Germany: I like it, I got a new pair of sandals and a nice pair of socks to go with it.
Italy: :(
Romano: You spit on the concept of fashion.
France: Of all the things you could have bought?
Germany: Why am I getting bullied have you seen what the Netherlands is wearing?
Belgium: Yeah, but unlike my brother you still care about what we think of you. My brother stopped giving a fuck a long time ago.
Luxembourg: Accurate, look at him dancing though. It's terrible.. but he's so happy... Good for him!
Mun note with some extra explanation under the cut
Heyaa this work was one of our new mun! Singapore Mun! :D part of the offshoring team shuuuut 😉
You can find her blog here: @senchou-presidente Link to her profile
Okay so the Dutch go absolutely nuts on their kingsday which took place on the 27th of April. Their current king is King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and he turned 55 that day! Here's a picture: X
But yeah it's not really a royalist event as much as an excuse to celebrate. The Dutch do not really hate their king but neither are they as royalist as some towards the British Crown. They're nicely split with 56% in favour of the crown and the others not really being against it but rather thinking there is some work to be done. For example apparently the Dutch king and his wife didn't adhere to the covid regulations which angered citizens.
The Royal Family does decide to visit one city each year and they do their very best to "put the flowers out" and impress them, this year apparently it was Maastricht: X (Link to the trailer, the after movie isn't out yet. whatever.)
Anyway back to kingsday!
During the day there's the Vrijemarkt or Oranjemarkt which allows a lot of Dutch to get rid of the things they do not want anymore. It turns the cities in some of the biggest fleamarkets of the world for a day.
Then after that of course you have crazy parties with everyone dressed in orange. Each tackier than the other.
Tumblr media
The Crazy dancing refers to Hakken or Gabber which for me is just stomping in a funny way but apparently it's an actual dance you can learn HERE It's absolutely ridiculous tho :')
Then what inspired this work was the snollebollekes video which sees entire crowds of people move from left to right. It's insane!
youtube
It starts around 55 seconds. With the text translating to;
"To hak," crouch, jump,"
"all of us from left to right, we're destroying the tent" times 3
Upon which you better prepare yourself to jump to the left and to the right or it is you who will be trampled :)
Anyway that's about it... Thank you for your ask!
Here's a bonus video of Ned driving into the canal:

Thank You!

Welcome back to us!
Whether you have noticed or not: Our blog got deleted. Why? We don’t know.
Here is what happened if you are interested in reading that: I (German mun) had uploaded the previous post on Sunday. Belgian mun pointed out that I had forgotten the “Read More” section in the post. I checked and no, it was there, but only in edit mode. I reloaded the page. Perhaps that would fix it, I thought. No. In fact, all posts disappeared. I messaged the other muns to find out whether this was just happening on my end, hoping this was only a weird bug.  It didn’t take long for us to notice our blog had actually been deleted. We tried to calm our nerves saying it could be server issues or the aforementioned bug or I don’t know. But no, the blog remained dead.
Until it didn’t as it ROSE again from the ashes of digital waste! Still scared us. Thanks Tumblr, very cool.
So, why did the blog get deleted in the first place? We have no idea. So, I hope that uploading this post won’t cause the same problems all over again :)

what are Polish-German relations in the EU like? Did Feliks like Ludwig a little?
Tumblr media
Germany: I can’t blame him and I can’t blame his people either though
Tumblr media
Poland: We may not be best friends but Niemcy here has done lots to help me out in these past couple decades! Don’t forget, we’ve also been EU partners since 2004!
Germany: That’s a relatively short amount of time ago, Poland.
Poland: Yet you are incredibly close to Francja! Speaking of which: He forgot his scarf at the previous Weimar-Triangle meeting. I bet you are gonna see him soon, will you give it back for me? I washed it for him as well.
Germany: Oh… of course but aren’t you going to be at the next meeting?
Poland: I can’t, sorry, things are a bit turbulent at the moment…
Germany: Do you need help?
Poland: It’s going to be fine but thank you for the offer.
Germany: Are you sure?
Poland: Tak. But hey, wasn’t there a question you were trying to respond to? What was it again?
Germany: Yes, our relationship nowadays. Whether you like me.
Poland: Case in point!
Tumblr media
Poland: *laughs* Speaking of kids, lots of them are learning German at school and many of my people live at your place. They seem to be comfortable.
Germany: I’m glad to hear they are feeling safe.
Poland: Thanks for the ask!
More notes under the cut
The Weimar-Triangle is, to keep things short, an international cooperation between Germany, France and Poland. It also recently celebrated it’s 30th birthday.
Also, about the language education in Poland: I found this statistic by searching “Number of pupils and students learning foreign languages in Poland in 2021” but when clicking the link, the site wants you to pay. So...
Tumblr media
Tada! The link is here if you still want it.
And if you want some general information on the bilateral relations between both countries, you can read about that here.

Since it's been object of A Lot of discourse on discords where I have been...what is everyone's policy on wearing shoes inside the house?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mun note below the cut!
Okay so this is one of our oldest asks and the issue with it was that we could never quite agree on it because it all differs a little.
For example, most of western Europe is supposed to keep their shoes on on the inside according to the maps, but then a lot of us knew households in our countries where this wasn't the case.
Using the maps wasn't clear either because depending on the sources they differ as you can see below!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that's also why I guess the maps say "normally"
So in the Benelux in general it's fine to keep them on, in Italy it's pretty similar. In France both are equally common and in Germany it's preferred to keep them off.
But indeed anon, subject to a lot of debate!! :D
thank you for your ask!

I've heard that France has a particularly strong and diverse manga market (biggest in the world outside Asia apparently!)
So are anime and manga popular there? And France, any favorites?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
France : Mangas started appearing in the 70s in France but they were rare and more geared towards an adult audience. They only became more mainstream in the 80s and 90s, with the simultaneous appearance of animes when there were only still two or three tv channels so all children and teenagers watched them.
There was a movement of push back from older people who said the stories were too violent for children but that hardly slowed the progression. Of course, since then, the main audience has shifted to younger people, but there is still a strong presence of more mature works.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
France : So many stories to tell ! I sometimes wish I could live through them. Wouldn’t it be fun to be a manga character ?
Bonus under the cut :

Thank you for your ask Anon !!

Mun note! Ah yes. Thank you so much!!! Indeed a last honourable mention!!!
So, can all of you sing the European Anthem? Or is it just the German-speaking countries who can get the words right? Also: who’s the best singer?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Germany: *Takes a deep breath*
“Alle Menschen werden Brüder,  wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt… “
Germany: *Waits a bit before deciding to continue with a little smile*
Tumblr media
Belgium: …
Luxembourg: …
Germany: Oh come on, say something… That wasn’t so bad now was it.
Belgium: Hey you free for dinner tonight? I need someone to serenade me to sleep :)
Luxembourg: Sister, please behave!
Luxembourg: But uh yes, Germany that was incredible! You have an amazing voice!
Germany: Thank you… *Flattered*
Tumblr media
Netherlands: Alright, alright, prick. Let’s hear it.
France: But with pleasure, mon cher! *blows him a kiss*
Netherlands: Hmmmpf... *rolls his eyes*
France: I’m ready! (Link to the song)
Tumblr media
Belgium: Awww, “Let's be united like brothers, with a kiss to the whole world.” That’s so sweet!
Germany: Impressive... If only he put that much work in things that actually matter... *sighs*
Luxembourg: But, Germany, Isn’t joy in Europe important?
Germany: Fine. Fine.
Romano: How typical that you had to make it gay again.
France: Try to do better then~
Tumblr media
France: *coughs* SIMP! *coughs*
Romano: *Glares in France’s direction, before breathing in* (Link to the song)
Tumblr media
Netherlands: *slow clap* That was actually pretty damn amazing!
Romano: *Blushing bright red* Shut up potato bastard number two!
Belgium: Damn, the second! But yes that was incredible! A lovely version! I also like the version in Latin though...
Italy: *takes Belgium’s hand* Want me to sing that for you, Bellissima?
Belgium: Oh, that would be lovely! *fans self*
Luxembourg: *sighs* female privilege.
Italy:  *takes a deep breath* (Link to song)
Tumblr media
Germany: Another beautiful version *wipes away a tear*
Italy: Thank you Germany! :D
Luxembourg: I think that except for my sister and brother, you all have beautiful singing voices that are hard to compare! Perhaps we should indicate the worst singer?
Belgium: Don’t you dare…
France: Oh no! the  worst possible version I have ever heard was from dear Angleterre as seen here: X
Germany: Yes. uhm… That sure is something…
Luxembourg: Ahahaha yeah alright. You’re not the worst, sis!
Belgium: You little shit! Anyway thank you for your ask!
Some Mun Notes and extra stuff below the cut!
Alright so the official English translation (although there are multiple English translations… ) is the following:
Oh friends, no more of these sounds! Let us sing more cheerful songs, More full of joy!
Joy, bright spark of divinity, Daughter of Elysium, Fire-inspired we tread Thy sanctuary! Thy magic power reunites All that custom has divided; All men become brothers Under the sway of thy gentle wings. Whoever has created An abiding friendship, Or has won A true and loving wife, All who can call at least one soul theirs, Join in our song of praise! But any who cannot must creep tearfully Away from our circle. All creatures drink of joy At nature’s breast. Just and unjust Alike taste of her gift; She gave us kisses and the fruit of the vine, A tried friend to the end. Even the worm can feel contentment, And the cherub stands before God! Gladly, like the heavenly bodies Which He set on their courses through the splendor of the firmament; Thus, brothers, you should run your race, As a hero going to conquest. You millions, I embrace you. This kiss is for all the world! Brothers, above the starry canopy There must dwell a loving Father. Do you fall in worship, you millions? World, do you know your Creator? Seek Him in the heavens! Above the stars must He dwell.
There’s also some interesting versions of the anthem out there, some weirder or more modern than others!
Belgian Mun’s absolute favourite, “never fails to make her cry”-version of the European anthem is the following Flashmob around the time of the Lisbon treaty: X DO LISTEN TO THIS ONE!!!!!
An honorable mention for this X multilingual version… However the French and German pronunciation leave to be desired. Luckily the singer apologises in the notes of the video, lol!
Regarding interesting linguistic versions, there is also a version in Esperanto here X, which is a made up language with a combination of rules and word forms from all the European languages.
Here’s an interesting version in English as well… X I believe it was sung by Albanians which is why the accent doesn’t sound native. Still it’s pretty cool because it is a rock version!
Another Rock version here X! With what I believe is Croatian at the end? Is the following:
Then some honourable mentions:
This one by André Rieu, because he’s a musical genius. X
This version with 10 000 Japanese people! X
Ode to Joy but it’s by the Muppets! X
This one but it is sung by cats :3 X
This X bastardisation by the Piano Guys who combined it with “Joy to the world”
And lastly this covid version by this Dutch orchestra who did it over zoom! X
Okay! You’d think I would have gotten tired of the melody after hearing it so often ;) And trust me it’s been stuck in my head for two whole days. YET I AM NOT TIRED OF IT! I adore the European anthem. :D
So yeah... Thank you for your ask dear!

WOO this looks amazing! The art's so good I can cry! As for questions, how's everyone handling the pandemic so far? And what's the situation in your countries currently?
Luxembourg: The situation seems to be finally calming down a little! Although I do not want to jinx anything.
Tumblr media
Belgium: First of all, apologies for responding this late. However, the pandemic is still dictating our everyday lives, therefore your question still proves relevant!
Netherlands: Aside from washing hands, wearing masks and distancing ourselves from each other, most are currently receiving or have received their third vaccination shot.
Luxembourg: And with you receiving your third shot, the EU6 is now officially boostered!
Tumblr media
France: We do not only keep track of vaccination numbers but case numbers as well, especially as they are still not stable in many countries, rising and going down as time goes on and depending on the restrictions.
Germany: It is important to inform the public about rising case numbers as soon as possible. This information proves to be particualy important to those who need to travel!
France: Travel has been restricted before after all, it was tough... many people in Schenghen (The EU’s free movement of people zone) forgot what it was like not to be able to freely move from country to country.
Germany: It was... And this was and is not only about vacations. Many people have to travel to another country for work or to see their families.
Tumblr media
Romano: We are on mask duty again. Despite being very busy, we try to distribute them as often as possible.
Italy: You can never have enough of them! After all, they need to be replaced often.
Romano: And since we are interacting with people alot, we get ourselves tested on a regular basis. We may be fully vaccinated but that doesn't make us immune.
Italy: We also use sanitizers alot, especially when washing hands is not an option. The good side is that masks can look pretty stylish and can be just another way for me to express myself! :D
Romano: Hurray, everything isn’t so bleak...  🙄
Small mun note below the read more:
Mun note:
Before anyone complaints about us touching upon a serious topic. Remind yourself that I and my teammates just deal with whatever is in our inbox and that seems like a fun way to interact with you all. That’s not an invitation to send us actual taboo or fucked up serious questions dealing with actual dramatic situations (Please do not send us asks about the current situation in Ukraine.)
Antivaxers also kindly fuck off :)
Anyway back to the topic
Protip from the German mun: Do your hands dry quickly? Use curd soap (the neutral smelling ones, I once got one that smelled like wet cement it was not a fun time). They have helped my hands alot.
We are still busy with school, uni or getting into uni. Trust us when we say that we’d love to post more often. Soon though! Soon we’ll have the time. Thank you for your patience everyone!
Belgian mun: Yeahhh it was mostly my fault ahaha sorry! deadline after deadline after deadline! I’m back and I’ll make sure me and my colleagues work hard to give you all some more stuff! :D

as someone currently learning French, I would like to lodge a complaint. quatre-vingt-dix-neuf? no problem.
genders? ok I guess
but verb tenses and conjugations?? Liaison??? WHY?
(if it isn't clear this is a joke)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
France : Now calm down, all I'm saying is -
Romano : NO !
Belgium : GET HIM ! WHOO !
France : YOU SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE AS ME !
Luxembourg : This could take a while so I'll step in. Languages derived from Latin all share several difficulties like multiple verb tenses and genders. Pronunciation however, is a bit more tricky in French, that's true. But don't get discouraged ! You can do it!
Small mun note under the cut
French mun : Numbers can easily become a heated debate among french speakers, and it's also a good way to find out which country a person is from ! At least some of us don't need a caculator to do a simple operation 😎
Belgian mun interjecting real quick: Yeah, I don’t need a calculator, because our numerical system isn’t dumb as fuck. Septante and nonante FTW!
French mun: But I digress ! Thank you for your ask and congratulations on learning a new language !
(Ps : If you think french is hard, check out german. They count backwards and they have three genders ! 😘)
Belgian mun: At least German is consistent. Like maths.

Had anyone tried to use a kitchen to explain the EU? As this video: https://youtu.be/3otSYJiIKGc
Germany: Yeah while a bit simplified and silly, the comparison with a food kitchen works quite well.
Belgium: Indeed, the only time we used it though was for a certain friend of ours across the Atlantic...
Flashback...
Tumblr media
America: So if I get it correctly, you aren't one restaurant but you guys are also not 27 separate restaurants anymore?
Germany: That is correct.
America: Okay, now I get while England went away. Obviously he can't cook...
Luxembourg: Uhm... true but what? how is this relev-
America: I still have questions though, like... Where is the food?
Germany: What food?
America: You know... The food? Restaurants... they have food no?
*Realisation hits the EU6 members*
Belgium: Mijn god!
France: Amerique... mon petit chou *sigh* /literally: My little cabbage. Figurativey: my dear (paternal)/...
America: Cabbage?! is that all?!
France: Non, that's not what I meant... *grimaces*
America: Then what?
Romano: Oh my god, this guy cannot be serious, he's worse than my brother.
Italy: Hey! :(
America: Hey! :/
Netherlands: Yeah, yeah, America it is a bit complicated, but give me 20€.. *coughs* I mean 30$ and I'll give you some food from our restaurants. :)
America: Great! That's my man! Here's the money, show me the way! I'm starving! Germany just kept talking and talking about restaurants... *America and the Netherlands walk away*
Belgium: Un-fucking-believable... I am in shock.
Romano: France, no offence but... no wait, full offence. You raised a fucking idiot.
France: Oh eh! I barely raised him, it's not me you should blame...
Luxembourg: You do realise you're not helping your case..... right?
Italy: Next time we should try and explain it with different kinds of pastaaa! :D
Romano: Fratello, I swear to go-
Germany: No wait, Italy go on, you might actually be onto something...
End Flashback...
Belgium: *sigh...* Anyway! Looking back it now it's kinda funny ahaha! Thank you for your ask, and the video!
tiny Mun note below:
EU expert mun talking, I liked the video! It's a simple analogy to explain the European union. While sometimes a bit oversimplified and silly... it is better than nothing! :)
Obviously the reference used for this picture is the G7 meeting:

Anyway I'm glad to finally include America once.
Sorry if he comes over as too dumb but regarding EU affairs or how the European Union works Americans in general seem to be very ignorant and this includes policy advisors in the white house :D They could all do with watching your video.
*gasp* But how Eurocentric of me to expect them to know the basics of the biggest economic bloc in the world yadi da~ jk jk this isn't that serious alright! ;)
Hey, at least we made a reference to Lousiana with him being able to understand French! That's nice no?
Anyway thank you again for your ask!

Belgium: Dear god, little brother... You look good but... uhm... isn’t this a bit much? Netherlands would have an aneurism...
Luxembourg: I was told it was my turn to give some fanservice and I got this costume recommended. People are tipping me quite generously, so big brother might even want to switch places! Do you think it’s inappropriate?
France: Oh no, you know it’s absolutely perfect! We should make you do the fanservice more often!
Germany: Y-Yes, you are a fine looking young man! I am sure the fans will appreciate this.
Luxembourg: Thank you Ludwig! Want to add some bills as well?
Germany: N-no.. I’m good. France took the bill out of my wallet to begin with anyway.
France: With your permission! ;)
Belgium: Lux, pass me that cocktail... I think I need a drink.
Luxembourg: But of course, dear sister! In any case... Thank you to the fans for the 500 subscribers to our blog!
