“Being born a woman is my awful tragedy. From the moment I was conceived I was doomed to sprout breasts and ovaries rather than penis and scrotum; to have my whole circle of action, thought and feeling rigidly circumscribed by my inescapable feminity. Yes, my consuming desire to mingle with road crews, sailors and soldiers, bar room regulars--to be a part of a scene, anonymous, listening, recording--all is spoiled by the fact that I am a girl, a female always in danger of assault and battery. My consuming interest in men and their lives is often misconstrued as a desire to seduce them, or as an invitation to intimacy. Yet, God, I want to talk to everybody I can as deeply as I can. I want to be able to sleep in an open field, to travel west, to walk freely at night...”
- Sylvia Plath

“He had a heart that could have held the entire empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar.” ― Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera
L’Opéra Garnier, Paris - inspiration for the Phantom of the Opera, and one of the most stunning masterpieces of the world, taken during my study abroad in November of 2019

for as much as studyblr may have its faults, it’s a pretty sizable online space that tells young girls that the absolute coolest thing you can do is be smart and work hard and believe in yourself and i think that’s pretty great

Reasons to be excited for school
Coffee in the morning as you blink sleep out of your eyes
Cool air and changing leaves, rain hitting the windows as you take notes
The sweaters and dress pants you can finally wear
Completing homework assignments and feeling the sense of accomplishment
Staying in the library to read a book about something that interests you
Looking over your notes before a test you know you’re ready for
Learning about things you never knew about and wanting to learn more
Opening your umbrella as you go out into the rain to take a walk between classes
Long, thick coats from vintage stores
Carrying stacks of books you can’t wait to read
Cups of tea and lighted candles

Quarantine be like: Posting about Dark Academia, literature and productivity all the while sitting in bed with greasy hair, in one’s pajamas, drinking tea that’s long gone cold.

Darkly academic things to do if (like me) you're in isolation:
Write letters to your friends and family, detailing how boring it is to be at home all day.
Sew a complete outfit of historical garments.
Teach yourself a craft with the supplies that you already have (or order them online).
Follow historical recipes.
Write King Lear.
Binge all of your unread books, or hold a read-a-thon.
Become paranoid because there's a raven following you around, saying 'nevermore'.
Redecorate your rooms in a way fit for a tasteful gothic manor.
Drink copious amounts of tea.
Work on improving a skill (such as painting in a certain medium or embroidery).
Have a Buzzfeed Unsolved marathon.
Catch up on work that you've missed, taking your time to make your work ~aesthetically pleasing~.
Pretend it's 1653 and hide from the black death.
Learn a piece of music on your instrument.
Mend any clothes that have tears or broken buttons.
Spring clean.
Plant flowers for the summer.
Cry because your exams are likely to be delayed, meaning that your next year's of education will be messed up and you won't have summer holidays.
Take on a research project (if you have the time) on a topic that you enjoy and want to know more about.
