Extremely excited for Dawntrail but I have one fear that keeps gnawing at me that I can't shake off. In Dawntrail, we're going to be going to a place that's clearly inspired by South America and based off of the trailer and the concept art it seems that we're going to see more 'beastmen' there than we see people of color. And this isnt the first time, just look at Radz-at-Han and the surrounding areas, it's clearly inspired by India but they turned all the Indian people into elephants with saris and you really dont see any dark skinned people around. It's just so frustrating because I feel like people of color that love fantasy games are constantly being told to wait our turn. """Obvisouly fantasy stories aren't going to feature people of color because it's set in fantasy Europe so ofc everyone is going to be white, you wouldn't expect to see white people in fantasy africa""" etc etc etc. And yet, inspiration is taken from places and from cultures that are non white all the time but it's rare that we see dark skinned people. Why are 'beastmen' a stand in for people with darker skin? I love this game, but man, as a person of color it sure does feel alienating some times.
