Last night a waxing gibbous moon, Aldebaran, Mars and the Pleiades star cluster converged to form a cool triangle in the night sky. This is a very quick, rough edit. Did anyone else see or photograph this event? This was taken with a crop sensor Nikon D7200 and Tamron 28-70mm lens and a standard tripod. A combination of two exposures. Edited in Photoshop. #moon #stars #nightsky #astro #starcluster #astrophotography #astronomy https://www.instagram.com/p/CpMwSBNpcqM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

SAVE THE DATE The bright star Aldebaran, red planet Mars, Moon, and star cluster Pleiades, will align to form a triangle on the 27th February after sunset in the north-western sky. This event is visible to the naked eye. Best viewed from a dark location. Best photographed with a wide angle lens. Approximately 50mm lens on an aps-c sensor. Days and times are based on my location in SEQld Australia. #space #visualastronomy #nightskyevents #nightskyobserving #astronomicalevents #astroevents #nightscapephotography #astrophotography #astronomy https://www.instagram.com/p/CpBZxTsyg2U/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I imaged this ages ago, it's Sh2-22 region, but I didn't capture much nebulosity. So its just been sitting on my drive for a few months, being another one of my failed projects. But I was playing around in photoshop and thought I'd see if I could glamorise it a bit by adding some star effects. It scrubbed up alright and was fun playing around with old crappy data. Image description: Entire image filled with small stars. All golden. Stars are so dense there is no empty blackness of space in the background. #astrochick #stars #photography #astrophotography #astro #backyardastrophotography https://www.instagram.com/p/ClqHU5FJdbL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Procyon. The name Procyon comes from ancient Greek and means 'before the dog'. Named so since it precedes the dog star, Sirius, as it moves across the night sky. Procyon is one of three stars that form the Winter Triangle in the northern hemisphere. The other two stars are Betelgeuse and Sirius. In the southern hemisphere, these three stars appear during the warmer months. Procyon is a binary star system. This means it is gravitationally bound to another star, Procyon B, a white dwarf. They orbit each other every 40 years. Procyon is one of the closest stars to our system, at a distance of 11.46 light years. Procyon is also a genus name for a group of species commonly known as Racoons. This image was captured using my Skywatcher F5 750mm Newtonian, ASI 533 mc pro and a CLS-CCD filter from Optolong. About 10 mins worth of 30 second subs stacked with dark and flat frames in DSS and editing in P.I and P.S. #stars #space #universe #astrophotography #nightskyporn #apod #practicalastrophotographymagize #astrophotographyporn #outerspace #photographyeveryday #nightskyphotography #universetoday #longexposurephotography #amateurastrophotography #backyardastronomy #deepskyastrophotography #astrogirl #womeninastrophotography (at Astrogirl.au - Backyard Observatory) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkRriKUSvrH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Nailed it. Jupiter. Aswell as Jupiter with some blown out moon's. Taken with my little 6 inch Newtonian (750mm/150) and the ASI244 OSC and a 2 x Barlow. Tried to de-rotate but figuring out winjupos is way beyond my skillset. So it's officially in the too hard basket along side manual polar alignment and deconvolution. #jupiter #astro #planets #solarsystem #astrophotography #universe #space (at Astrogirl.au - Backyard Observatory) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkNLEhNpa8Y/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Cats Paw or Bears Paw Nebula. Just a quick one. I managed a couple of hours, there's fainter nebulosity in the background a few more hours would easily bring that out. Tarantula Nebula This deep-sky object is incredibly fascinating! I did a bit of research and i have leant, it was first discovered in the 1750s by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille. It has an apparent magnitude of 8. Which is pretty bright! According to Wikipedia, if the Tarantula Nebula was as close to us as Orion Nebula it would cast visable shadows! Wow. It is one of the largest Hii regions and is the most active starburst region within our local group (area of the universecontaining our galaxy and other nearby galaxies) . The centre of the Nebula is lit by a star cluster (NGC2070) which is estimated to be 450,000 solar masses (a unit of measurement derived from the mass of our sun). There are supernova remnants amongst all the gas and nebulosity, the closest observed being 1987A. This is about 9 hours of integration time taken over multiple nights using: Skywatcher F5 750mm Newtonian Skywatcher EVO Lux 62ED ASI533 OSC Saxon NEQ6 pro Optolong L-enhance filter Optolong cls-ccd filter Nexsus .75 reducer/corrector QHY5L-IIM camera and scope for guiding. Gum 51 or RCW105 A very very faint nebula (can't even see it in stellarium! So framing was difficult!) Took about 8 hours but culled to 5 and I think it still needs more time!! I pushed this data quite hard, there was alot of noise to clean up. I think a mono camera and HA filter would be better suited. It's located in the constellation Norma. Using my 750mm Newt. Another frame from the ASI224. Only about an hour again. Using the same settings as Carina, 20 sec subs and 120 gain. If I was just starting out and had limited funds I wouldn't be mad at this camera and these results.. I am really really loving the fov. I definitely want to go deeper!! I can safely use my ASI533 and the 224 with a 2xBarlow and occasionally binning, depending on the set up, to about 2000mm. But I think I'll look for a little Skywatcher Newtonian that's around 1500mm because they are faster. But I might also go for a Celestron Schmiddy. Any budget friendly suggestions I can look into?? #astro #asi224 #skywatcheraustralia #astrochick #nightsky https://www.instagram.com/p/CfNvzJRJRUC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I really want to explore planetary this season and hopefully produce something decent.. I thought I'd get a few frames last night while I had the 224 on my telescope. My colour is way off lol. But I did manage to focus while using a Barlow so now I know how to set it all up I can practice more. I've included one from last year too. This is my starting point. Taken with my 750mm Newt and a 2x Barlow using sharpcap best of 2000 frames using Registax and Autostakkert. #jupiter #solarsystem #planet #astrochick https://www.instagram.com/p/CfLq3TppRaG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
