Despite what it might look like and despite the risks, the reason I want a laser operation to fix my eyes, is not because I want to see better, or I hate myself with glasses, or anything of the sort.
It's so that, when the zombie apocalypse comes, I won't be handicapped by my glasses breaking or my contact lenses drying up.

rebuttable presumption masterpost
by popular demand, ta-da!
if you’re new to rebuttable presumption, here’s a quick 10 point summary to the verse.
quick answers to FAQs: 1) idk if i’ll ever put this up on ao3. it’s going to be a nightmare to edit, and, unfortunately, i don’t have that sort of time on my hands; 2) if you want to play around with this verse (e.g. write any of the aus that i’m not writing ahahaha), go for it; 3) i know there’re still bits y’all want to read (e.g. wangxian wedding) - there’re still prompts i’m keeping in drafts, and will be occasionally dropping extras, but for all intents and purposes, the main timeline is done and any extras shouldn’t affect that timeline, so i’m marking rp verse as completed.
current as at: 23 march 2021
status: completed (unscheduled extras will be added from time to time)

They say the ninth life is the easiest, the most difficult trials are completed, and this one acts as a small relieve in the cycle, before the reincarnated is thrown into the afterlife’s hectic schemes. Or rather, Elysium’s currently warring gods.
Lily never had that problem, though, after all her nine lives had finished, she was told that she was a Chosen Guardian, and that she could decide between going on to the afterlife or becoming a guardian. She was told of the history of the guardians. In the beginning they were created by the gods, but, as time went on and more humans were born, they would be chosen by previous guardians instead.
Lily decided to follow the path of the Chosen, so that she could help others through their cycles as inconspicuously as her own guardian had. She found herself lucky, having kept all the memories of all her previous lives. Surely, it must mean that she would have an easier time leading her charges. She soon learnt this wouldn’t be so.
xXx
Her human had so far lived eight out of nine lives in relative peace, which was weird, considering that there were 7 trials of sin which a human had to get through, before they could enter the afterlife. She wondered if something was wrong with his cycles, or if his trials just had been smaller things that had meant much to him, but not to her.
‘Oh well,’ she thought to herself, licking her patterned fur. ‘This life probably won’t be as different from every other human’s.’
As she watched him coming into the world for the ninth time, she decided she was happy for him and the easy cycle he’d had so far. Hopefully, he’d still be allowed into Elysium.
Something was off with his current mother, though. She looked way too young and frail for this harsh a birth. And it didn’t seem like she had any relations nearby. No family, no friends and definitely not the father of the child. As Lily’s charge was born, she saw how the frail girl looked at him with both love, relief and tiredness. Clearly, this wouldn’t end as well as Lily’d initially hoped.
xXx
She was right, the young girl had lived long enough to tell the doctors that there was no family left to take care of the child. And, fortunately, to name him.
Alexander Hansen
That was the name of her young charge.
She felt sorrow and empathy for the babe. Only a couple of minutes old and already an orphan.
Her only solace was that he was healthy and not sickly. That would have been horrible for him, getting off to an even worse start of his ninth life than he already had.
Lily would just have to keep an even closer eye on him. Make sure he didn’t grow up completely alone.
He was wholly her responsibility now.
xXx
It was decided by the doctors that he would go to an orphanage. The orphanage he was delivered to had some experience in taking care of small babes and local nurses-in-training frequently stopped by to check up on the children, so at least he wouldn’t be mistreated.
As he grew, she soon learned why his previous lives had been so easy. All of the seven sins he was supposed to go through one by one earlier, had been tossed onto him now. She had no clue why this was so, she could only do her best to help and support him.
xXx
The first time she let him see her, he was nearing 9 years of age. He had no friends in the orphanage or at school, as people saw his shamrock coloured eyes as “freakish and unnatural”. Lily shook her head at the stupidity of humans, hating others only because of a few traits they couldn’t do anything about. Still, she wouldn’t spurn him for this, so she came to him in the form she preferred and therefore the one she most often guided him from, a calico kitten. She’d observed him closely, and soon learned that he absolutely adored animals, cats and stags in particular.
He’d been sitting behind a bush in the backyard playing with some toys he’d found lying around, when suddenly some of the older kids had taken them from him, destroyed them and put the blame on him. The madam of the orpanage had been oh so angry at him, and set him to clean the attic and do the dishes after dinner and breakfast the next morning, probably thinking of the many children of the house, and therefore how long it’d take him to finish. It all seemed unfair to Lily, disliking someone because of something they couldn’t control themselves. But then again, she hadn’t been so unfortunate as to born in such a restricted community and time.
After he’d finished the unfit punishment the following morning, he’d been allowed back outside in the garden, which is where she found him under the terrace. Lily had meowed gently at him, making him aware of her presence. He looked up, and immediately moved to pet her fur.
After a few minutes, he began speaking, “I’m so angry I can barely control it. Why would they even do something like that?” he uttered with a slight hiss.
He seemed unusually angry, and she immediately knew why that was. This was one of the sins, the one most people had in their third or fourth life depending on when the gap year shows itself. Lily wasn’t sure why he only now showed signs of the sins, but whatever the case, she would help him through it. It was her mission and her honour depended on this cycle, her first cycle of guidance, going well.
She purred and leaned into his touch, letting him know he wasn’t alone, that he wasn’t the freak that the others called him.
He started breathing easier, saying, “I know it isn’t normal; feeling this way. They’ve done this before, and I hadn’t the faintest touch of this anger before today, so why do I feel so furious now?” She hadn’t the slightest idea of how to answer his questions, so she simply purred and ripped her head against his cheek, trying to console his problems in any way she could as a kitten. She truly hoped this was the only sin he’d encounter, but she had a bad feeling about it.
xXx
As usual, she’d been right. His anger at the world and it’s treatment of him continued, and with each passing day it grew only stronger and more menacing. It reared forth in different ways each time. Sometimes he’d be fuming for days at a time, silently waiting for the las straw to be drawn before he’d erupt like a volcano. Other times he’d react violently towards his surroundings. Granted, he never hurt her or any of the animals around him, but the same thing couldn’t be said about inanimate objects or the boys irritating him at the orphanage. Other times again he’d just vent and vent to her about the troubles he was facing and how he despised most everyone around him. She preferred these rages, as they were easier to calm and deal with because of his otherwise silent nature.
Plus, he always enjoyed a good snuggle with her after he’d finished venting. Having her fur stroked and being hugged by him had definitely become her favourite pastime.
xXx
She’d only had to intervene once when he’d been wrathful, but that had truly been a terrifying instance. It was after supper sometime in mid July of his 15th year and he’d been outside for hours, enjoying the nice summer weather. That’d been happening a lot, she’d noticed, him enjoying the sun. She wondered if it had something to do with his birth season being summer, but then she recalled him talking for hours at end about wanting winter and the icing cold, back. He was weird like that, she supposed.
But yes. They’d been outside soaking up the last remnants of evening sun, when some older boys from his school had shown up and surrounded them. At first Alexander hadn’t reacted, simply ignoring them in favour of keeping the peace. But then the ring leader was so stupid as to talk. Damned humans and their big mouths, she thought.
“Hey Dweeb, whatcha doing here? Having a date with that freakish cat? Finally admitted you’re a pervert?” The pimpled ring leader really should’ve stopped and turned around. Certainly would have if she was just a bit more magical.
Alex, though, didn’t react to the mocking, seemingly asleep. That is, until some of the ring leaders henchmen began to kick him, wanting a reaction from him.
They really shouldn’t have done that, stupid humans. I stretched out and yawned then walked over to and up in the branches of a nearby tree, knowing that I’d only be in the way of Alexander
(He’s the god Cernunnos)
Before you reach the afterlife, you must go through nine reincarnations of your soul, proving that your soul is righteous. You have one guardian who sees you through these lives, helping you to understand yourself and keeping you on the right path. Follow the path of Lily, a calico kitten trying desperately to keep her young human on his ninth life out of the trouble that follows him like a magnet.

seems that Chrome has around 60-65% market share, so it’s not totally dominating the market yet but it’s worrying that we’re basically reliant on Apple and Microsoft to hold the line.
