Today, April 7, is "Astro Boy's Birthday" since the manga Astro Boy first appeared on this day in 1952. The design appearing on the "50 Years After the War Memorial Series No. 5" stamp (issued in 1997) was composed based on Osamu Tezuka's self-portrait and an illustration of Astro Boy.

今日4月7日は1952年(昭和27年)のこの日、漫画・鉄腕アトムが初めて登場したことから「鉄腕アトムの誕生日」だそうです。 「戦後50年メモリアルシリーズ第5集」切手(1997年発行)に登場するデザインは、手塚治虫の自画像と鉄腕アトムのイラストを元に構成しました。

just had to stay up and do something for today, although cleaning up is keeping me busy. We’re not gonna talk about how I ran out of space at the top and had to add another paper 💀 I wasn’t quite sure how to represent manga/1963 Astro in the center so I tried to copy Tezuka’s illustration style for him. Not sure I nailed it down, but it was fun trying!
