SKIMMING THE POSTER , you murmur ,  â  a bake sale ?  i could make some brownies .  oh , and a little to the left .  â  taking the pile of papers , you watch to make sure he doesnât topple over .  â  arenât you supposed to have someone helping you ?  â  you hope heâll accept your assistance if not talk to you .  â  who else is baking ?  â
His entire body tensed as he recognized the voice. Becky. Moving the poster a little to the left and trying to remain civil at least, he mumbled, âYep, a bake sale. Are you sure you want to help raise funds for something like the Trevor Project?â Adam didnât know why she broke up with him, but he had his suspicions. At the question of if he was supposed to have someone else to help, he shrugged. Hopefully, she would walk away soon.

tristan had , admittedly , hoped adam wouldn â t notice him . at least for , like , another decade , or something . he didn â t need to face him knowing he â d seen his embarrassing breakdown at the vigil . he couldn â t be rude , though , so he headed over to sit by him , pulling on what was probably the fakest smile known to man , and hoping for the best .
He could feel that the other didnât exactly want to see him, but they were sort of stuck in a club together. Unless Tristan quit, which he hoped Tristan wouldnât. Adam tapped his pen against the table they now shared before turning to look over at Tristan and asking, âOkay, so for the radio show, I donât know if you listen but... We want to add music from Degrassi student. Do you think thatâs a good idea?â

He tried to keep a goofball energy at all times to play everything off as being okay. However, today just wasnât the day for it. As he sat in study hall, mindlessly flipping through his book for English class, Adam was completely vacant. A different person. However, when he spotted Tristan coming in, there was a quick change in his tune as he smiled and waved over to the other. Nobody needed to see that side of him.

Finding himself on a step stool unsupervised was not on Adamâs list of things to do that day, but it was exactly where he was as he hung up signs for the Trevor Project bake sale. In one arm was the pile of papers, in the other, the stapler. His hands were full, but he had to make it due. He didnât want to push Tristan too hard after the vigil. When somebody approached at his side, he didnât even look, instead opting to answer while stapling, âHey, can you just give me a second? Tell me if that looks straight.â

the fool: do you have any nicknames?
âAdam is already a really short name so... Not really? A few friends call me different things, but like... Iâm not condoning everyone to call me them so Iâm going to keep them to myself.â
the magician: have you ever written a poem or song about somebody else?
âYes. But, Iâm just a bassist. Now, the comedy routine I wrote will be heard one day.â
the high priestess: what is your dream date?
âAbsolutely going out for pizza and then maybe going to an arcade after-- or whatever she wants to do. I donât really mind anyway.â
the empress: do you think you will ever get married?
âAt this point... Yeah, right.â
the emperor: what are some names that you like?
âLuckily for you, I had to go through an extensive list of names to choose one for myself. Almost went by Greyson, considered Cole, but then decided Adam.â
the hierophant: do you believe in ghosts?
âYes.â
the lovers: do you have a crush?
âSadly, I do. I want to be over it like yesterday.â
the chariot: thoughts on astrology?
âI think itâs cool that people have something they can look to for guidance, but it never really meant much to me.â
strength: what is your dream occupation?
âI would love to have my own podcast or be the next John Mulaney.â
the hermit: what is your favorite soda pop?
âYou canât go wrong with a Sprite Cranberry. Kidding, just Sprite.â
wheel of fortune: first three songs that come on shuffle?
â'Float Onâ, âTranzâ, and âVanilla Twilight.â
justice: favorite color of rose?
âA white rose.â

âOne time, I dreamed that trumpets ate my grandma.â
the devil: do you enjoy thunderstorms?
âYeah, theyâre pretty calming. Nice background noise and all of that.â
the tower: favorite colors to wear?
âBright and loud colors, but green is one of my favorites.â
the star: have you ever seen a psychic?
âAbsolutely not. I donât want someone else telling me my fate.â
the moon: have you ever written a love letter?
âAgain, sadly. Her brother found it instead.â
the sun: do you believe in magic?
âOnce, I tried learning how to do magic tricks.â

â oh , you can totally count me in !! â he laughed along with adam for a moment , and for the first time in a while it felt like maybe things could turn out alright . new year , new style , new position as the lgbt club â s vice pres . if he played his cards right , it â d all be fine .
â you had me at missing class occasionally . â he joked , absentmindedly fiddling with the straw in his frappe .
The grade eleven only grinned as Tristan seemed genuinely excited. Maybe the year would be better than expected. Maybe a terrible summer couldnât ruin the goals heâd set for the upcoming year.Â
âHappy that thatâs what you care the most about,â Adam joked with a small wink. âThough, most of it will be to set up fundraisers. I was thinking of a beginning of the year bake sale? Raise money for the Trevor Project?â

it wasnât that zig had wanted to be at school, but being there durning nonschool hours had somehow been easier, and something that he would have definitely preferred. â not sure iâve ever really listened to a whole show if iâm being honest, just thought you looked familiar. â the male answered as he was looking at the posters that the other was hanging, another question leaving his lips soon after. â you promoting all the school clubs? âÂ
He stared at the otherâs face as he tried to place a name to it. This definitely wasnât a rising freshman. It had to be a sophomore, so why couldnât he think of a name? Then, the guy admitted to never finishing the show, âOh, but dude, the end is always the best part. Itâs where Dave and I get to really let loose, you know?â As he finally stapled another poster into the wall, he shook his head, âNo, just LGBT club.â

though there were obviously heavy topics in the air , and both of them were probably faking happiness on at least some level , tristan was , in all honesty , content to keep it that way . at least for the time being . Â
â thanks ! â the hair dye had been another cog in the machine that was the decision to forget the entirety of last year , really . Â
tris â fingers wrapped around the folder , giving the letter a quick look over , and allowing himself a proper smile at adam â s words , and the way he was the one addressed on the paper . he needed a distraction , desperately , and this was the perfect way to do it .  â it â s totally a good idea ! â
reigning himself in had never been tristan â s strong suit , and he was sure , just from his grin and tone of voice , he was coming off a little too enthused . not that he really cared .
He sipped at his iced coffee before looking out the window. Definitely not the time or place. Plus, maybe he could life the other guyâs mood. Who knew at this point?Â
As he opened up the folder and smiled, Adam found himself matching it, beaming with delight. âReally? You donât think itâs too forward? I mean, I truly couldnât run the club without him by my side and--â He cut off from his ruse with a laugh and a shake of his head. âSo, will you be the vice president of the LGBT Club? There isnât dental, but there is the perk of missing class for set up sometimes.â

There at the school only to hang up posters for the club, Adam wasnât expecting to run into anyone. After all, orientation had already happened and he hoped people left their hardcore locker decorating days behind them. However, somebody else was in the halls, and that somebody was talking to him. âOh, me? Um, yeah. Iâm one of the cohosts. You a fan?â
Zig had already had quite a few run in with a bunch of different people, for the school year not even really starting yet â not that he was exactly shocked, but even then it was hard to put out of his mind. Heâd just closed his locker when he spotted someone at the one beside him, brows knitting together slightly as he had thought that heâd kind of recognized him. â youâre that guy from the radio, arenât ya? â // @atorrcs

â It â s totally fine . I wasn â t doing anything important . â More than anything , Tris was glad Adam didn â t dive right into talking about Cam . He didn â t want to think about it anymore . He â d spent too much of his time lately thinking about it .
â I can imagine . â He let out a soft snicker , eyes drifting curiously toward the folder Adam was tapping at .  â Just lounging around at home and ruining my hair with bleach . I might actually be glad to go back to school just so I have things to do . â
Something Adam had learned over the summer, and through being friends with Eli, is that thereâs a time and place for everything. Judging by Tristanâs attitude, this wasnât the time or place to even breach the topic that weighed heavily in the air.
He was also grateful the topic of Becky didnât come up. It had been a quiet break up, but that didnât change the fact that it was indeed a break up. âRuining? Dude, I think your hair looks awesome, but...â he slid over the folder, âSpeaking of things to do when school starts back... Can you read over that letter? I was wanting to ask someone to help me lead LGBT club since I canât be president without vice president and...â Tristanâs name was totally on the letter as the person addressed.

Though Tris wasn â t looking forward to the school aspect of school , being out of his house and around people who weren â t his parents and their constant arguing or his own thoughts post - cam â s death would be more than a welcome change .Â
Shooting a quick smile over at Adam, he headed for the ( thankfully short ) line and within a few minutes , cradled a caramel frappe in his hands .  â Hey ! â He settled himself into the seat opposite Adam , more than happy for the company .  â How goes your last bit of freedom before we â re back at school ? â
As Tristan took the seat across from him, Adam couldnât help the sympathetic smile. He knew that the boy that died was in Tristanâs grade-- of course, he didnât know if they were close or not, but if the death was effecting him a grade above, he couldnât imagine the toll on someone the same age. However, he turned that sympathy into an actual happy smile once he realized Tristan probably wouldnât be in the mood.
âHey! Thanks for meeting me here so last minute. Iâm a terrible planner,â he said, tapping his fingers against the mysterious folder. âItâs been alright, I guess. Um, havenât been up to much except spending time with Drew-- and there is such thing as too much time with him. You?â

Adam sat at The Dot with a folder sat in front of him and a cup of iced coffee to the side. Things had been hectic around the area after the death of Cam, and although this meant Adam wasnât ready for school at all, he was sort of forced to be. When he spotted Tristan walking in, he offered him a small wave. Just the person he was waiting for. âHey! Come grab a seat once you get your order.â
