The Marauders and...
Summary: Heading to Hogwarts for the first time, Remus tries not to let his worries get him down. He has a lot on his plate—truths he can’t share with anyone—and none of it is helped by the bullies constantly casting jinxes and calling him nasty names. Despite it all, though, he has his three best friends—the first friends he’s ever made, in fact.
Yet, it doesn’t take long for Sirius to start getting suspicious, questioning what strange sickness could be keeping Remus in the hospital wing for days at a time. Ever nosy, Sirius takes it upon himself to unravel the mystery that is Remus Lupin, unaware of the tortured consequences that come with knowing such an intimate secret.
A story about the Marauders as they navigate their school years and set off into adulthood.

Chapter 22
"Potions. The Big One," James said as they stood outside, waiting to be let in.
"I don't know if I can add the perfume," Remus muttered. "If I mess up…"
"You won't," Sirius assured. "We'll all be right there beside you. You can do it!"
"He's right," Peter added. "You'll only psych yourself out, getting nervous. Trust me, I know."
Nodding, Remus closed his eyes and took a couple deep breaths. When he opened them again, he saw that Slughorn was opening the door. They were about to step in, but before they could, Evans and Snape cut in front of them. The two cast the group nasty, superior looks, and Remus found himself grinding his teeth in anger.
James grabbed him by the arm. "Just think about their faces when we beat them," he said. "Think of that sweet, sweet victory."
Nodding, Remus forcefully swallowed his nerves and marched inside.
As was customary, the written exam was done first. But this time, they couldn't afford to miss a single detail. Knowing that time was of the essence, Remus flew through each question as fast as he dared, far more comfortable with the theory of potions than he was the actual activity of brewing one. Once each question was answered in extensive detail, he went to the very beginning and added as many extra bits and paragraphs as he could muster. Around him, he could hear his three friends scribbling to do the same, all of them so focused that they never once looked up during the entirety of the exam. They kept working diligently until the very end.
Every bit of space on Remus' parchment was covered, very similarly to how his History exam had looked when he'd turned it in. Which was only reassuring for about half a second, because once the parchment slid from beneath his hands and flitted up to the front of the room, he was faced with the worst challenge yet.

Chapter 21
Coming back from Easter Holiday really hammered home how irritating the change in attitude was to each of the boys. Despite being in the best part of the month, Remus was still exceedingly annoyed with coming back only to be treated like he was made of glass by all the older students in their house. They'd apparently decided to double-down on trying to be nice to the first years, which only reminded Remus acutely of his days in the hospital wing right after full moons—when everyone was always so careful and needlessly kind. He appreciated it during those specific times—especially from his friends—but it was maddening otherwise.
James was starting to get miffed about it too. While he certainly wasn't a people pleaser in the vein that he wanted everyone to like him, he did want people to like him for who he was, not because they thought he was a pity case. Getting attention from the other Gryffindors every time they walked into their common room or into the great hall only rubbed him the wrong way. Especially after two whole weeks at home with his parents, who knew exactly the kind of person he was, good and bad alike.
Sirius was surprisingly short-tempered about it. "It's like this big fake front!" he said. "They're all pretending! It's just like with my whole family! We know they don't actually like us!" After being locked up in the Black House for two weeks, this frustration was relatively reasonable.
Peter was mostly upset because it was continually making his friends upset. Besides, they were still getting harassed and jinxed by the Slytherins (though less than before) which, to him, meant the change wasn't drastic enough to warrant attachment. He'd rather his friends went back to normal than have other students being overly nice.
"So how are we gonna do it?" James asked near the end of April. "Spill the beans, I mean."
"I was thinking we should do it at the end-of-term feast," Remus replied, the four of them sitting around in their dormitory. They did that more and more often these days. But going out by the lake or into the courtyard had long since ceased being safe, no matter the warmth of the weather. "Announce it so everyone hears."
"And then run away," Peter added meekly.
"Oh, I have an idea," Sirius said, grinning. And so they got to planning. Thankfully, such an announcement didn't take nearly the effort their other endeavors did, so once planned, all they had to do was wait. This meant their focus returned again to their swiftly approaching exams.

Chapter 20
The Slytherins had returned to their lessons within three days of the "incident," but had been pretty well preoccupied with their situation and so hadn't been bothering Remus and his friends for a good week. But once things had calmed down some and it'd become apparent that whoever had committed the prank wasn't going to come forward—leaving the professors to slowly put the pieces together—the Slytherins had become downright brutal.
They were taking their frustrations out on everybody, consequences be damned. Gryffindors especially, the idea that the prank had been quidditch revenge spreading like wildfire despite the facts of the situation alluding otherwise. Which meant they went all out on the four first years, who'd been well-targeted prior.
The boys couldn't even walk by a Slytherin now without getting jinxed or hexed. Even those who had previously done nothing to them had turned over a new leaf of nastiness. They were frustrated, some said, because all their stuff had been destroyed in the prank. But that didn't really justify them taking out their anger on other students, even if the four boys were the ones behind the debacle. The Slytherins didn't know that, after all.
It'd gotten to the point where no one even cared if they hit Sirius too. He ended up in the hospital wing as often as the others now, which was nearly every other day. It was getting so bad that Madam Pomfrey was making reports to McGonagall every time they showed up with leeks in their ears or boils all over their faces. Or worse, sometimes. None of them had failed to notice that McGonagall appeared in the halls where they were expected to be more often now, which Remus found annoying, but was also grateful for.
Still, though, the Slytherins tended to catch them anyway. The only saving grace was that the boys were well-versed by then in dealing with such abuses and so most of it rolled off their backs with little in the way of emotional upset. Which might have only encouraged the Slytherins, but that was neither here nor there as far as Remus was concerned.
They had more important things to worry about. Besides, the constant news about the state of the dungeons kept them going strong.

Meet the Mona Lisa of the Prado, the earliest known copy of Da Vinci’s best portrait. Similarity in the undersketch of the painting indicates that this was very likely painted concurrently with the original Mona Lisa, by a student of Da Vinci.
There is much controversy in the art world over the question of whether or not to clean the fragile Mona Lisa, but her sister has been restored and some fairly odd later alterations removed to show the original vibrant colors and lighting. Some details, such as the sheerness of her shawl and the pattern on the neckline of her dress, have become utterly obscured in the original, but in the restored copy they’re perfectly clear.
It blows my mind a little bit to look at these two sisters side-by-side and imagine how much vivid detail could be hiding in the Mona Lisa under 500 years of rotten varnish.

Thunder and Shadow
Summary: Five years after Ultima’s defeat, those left behind have no choice  but to push onward in a world still on the precipice of ruin. Left with  all that remains of Clive—her twin boys—both Jill and Joshua do all that  can be to ensure the world they grow up in is one of less strife and  struggle than what came before. But the destruction of the crystals and  the god that created them has left the aether and eikons in a state of  chaotic distress that plagues the entirety of Valisthea. And now, to  have received a letter from the north about stone bearers coming back to  life, Jill has a new mystery to unfold.
At the same time, Clive  finds himself waking on what he thinks must be the western Rosarian  coast, though how he arrived there, he doesn’t know. Nor has he any idea  how much time has passed since that final fight with Ultima. But as he  begins to investigate, he sees a battle of eikonic proportions in the  distance, one that revives old, bitter memories. Ifrit, perhaps, can  make up for wrongs wrought so long ago.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, a shadow manipulates them all, his eyes set on those who would become dominants and tools both.
Chapters 1 - 9
Chapter 10
Letter in hand, Clive forced his breath to remain steady, even as the edges of the parchment wrinkled in the tightness of his hold. In front of him, Joshua remained gravely serious, while at his side, Elwin looked curiously up between them. From where he remained in Clive's arms, Pup stared hard at the letter, as if trying to parse together a puzzle.
Eventually, Pup moved his little hand from where he'd been resting it upon Clive's chest to instead point a finger at a single word written upon the parchment. He then looked to Clive and said, "That word is 'Jill'—that's Mama."
Swallowing hard, Clive pressed the letter back into Joshua's hands. "Indeed," he agreed.
Pup waited, perhaps expecting further expansion. "I can't read," he eventually admitted, as Clive struggled with what else to say. "Not very good…"
"It is merely a letter from Sir Wade," Joshua finally cut in, managing a much brighter smile. "Updating us as to his and your mother's activities in the North."
"Is Mama coming home?" Elwin asked, holding Clive by the edge of his leg armor.
"Soon," Joshua said vaguely.
"When is soon?" Pup asked critically.
"Once they've finished their task," Joshua replied, an answer that did little to enlighten the twins.
"When is that?" Elwin asked.
Clive just spared him a tight smile in response, before lowering Pup to the dirt floor of the stables. Were the situation different, he might have sent them off elsewhere, so that he and Joshua could discuss the true contents of the letter, but he dared not let them out of his sight. And if they were within sight, then he had to be careful about whether they were in hearing range as well.
"Why don't you two brush down Ambrosia," Joshua said as he reached for a nearby tack shelf and retrieved two soft bristle brushes. He then moved to Ambrosia's stall and undid the latch so as to open it. "Clive and I have some rather boring business to discuss."
"Okay!" Elwin agreed and happily took the brush before skirting into the stall.
Pup was not so easily cast off, even as he took the brush offered to him. Frowning, he was downright suspicious as he stared up at Joshua and said, "I'm Clive."
Joshua scoffed lightly. "'Worm' and I have some things to discuss," he corrected lightly.
His word choice was met with further rebellion. "He's not a worm."
"Oh, Worm!" Elwin called from inside Ambrosia's stall.
A sliver of warmth managed to penetrate Clive's otherwise chilled and troubled countenance.
Joshua sighed. "Your father and I have some things to discuss."

"Worm?"
"Elwin."
"Are you really an outlaw?"
Supposing that sort of title didn't expire with time, Clive said, "I suppose so."
"I want to be an outlaw," Elwin claimed as he swung his sword at some passing brush.
Smiling sympathetically, Clive squeezed Elwin's hand in his a little tighter. "You're already a Lord and a Prince. Are those not titles enough?"
Continuing to haphazardly swing his sword as they walked, Elwin hummed thoughtfully and said, "Those are boring."
"I don't think you'd have much fun as an outlaw either."
"I think so."
Clive supposed there was little point in arguing.
"Worm?"
"Elwin."
"Can you really steal eikon powers?"
Steal? Sounded as if Joshua must have been telling that story. A difficult question to answer, nonetheless. "It's not quite that simple."
Elwin turned up at him. "Will you steal my powers?"
"Technically, I already have them."
Nose scrunching in confusion, Elwin said, "Oh," and returned his attention to smacking weeds.
"Worm?"
"Elwin."
"Why don't worms have legs?"
"I don't know."
"Oh, okay." Pause. "Why don't you know?"
