i love how taylor specifically mentions the boat license like she wouldn’t think of dumping a body from a boat unless she’d been properly trained to drive it

Coney Island is about two people who fell out of love in their marriage, one was married to their work and at what expense, she asks. they started out as this model couple and over time things fell apart .. it wasn’t one big event, they just slowly forgot to pay attention to each other and forgot birthdays and accidentally rained on each other’s parades...and stopped lusting over each other and this loneliness in their marriage is juxtaposed against being at the fair (Coney Island) surrounded by a lot of people but feeling completely alone and lost.
I also imagined this couple having memories of their early romance at Coney Island and coming back years later and Coney Island is the same but they are so different, and how the passage of time changed them but not their surroundings. So now they’re sitting at Coney Island reflecting on all this. Anyway, Then there was a terrible accident and the guy dies and his last thought is his wife and there is immense guilt over how things turned out for her too and it took the accident to make them both realize it all, even though it still didn’t change either of them. Plus of course, then it was too late.
Something I love about Coney Island is the lyric “sorry for not making you my centerfold” because it describes this falling out of love and lust with someone and regret it turned out that way, but also not issuing blame and kind of a resignation it was maybe destined to end up this way. I also love the profound sadness of the imagery of someone looking back over many years wondering where and how it all went wrong, while sitting on a cold day on a bench on a bench that used to be sunny warm to them. I also dig the way both people are accepting their role over the years contributing to things dissolving, instead of the typical blaming the other for it. One of her best storytelling songs yet !!

I might catch hate for this but friendly reminder not to speculate, theorize, or make assumptions about Taylor Swift or anyone’s sexuality. Interpret songs however you like. Finding personal meaning in music is more than okay. Just don’t take it to the point where you are trying to make theories about a real persons sexuality because that is weird and gross. Thank you.

i was just asking myself “who hurt taylor at a mall” because “meet me behind the mall” and “we were like the mall before the internet / it was the one place to be” are such sad lyrics to me and then i remembered this

What do you think ab the woodvale theory?? Maybe it’s the location where she’s going to record the live session (like long pond?)
I definitely don’t subscribe to the third album theory, because I think you can get away with this twice (as she clearly is), but a third time would be overkill. I could get behind it being something else. But I really think it was a code word they were using for folklore that didn’t get edited out.
