Okay it’s ROLL CALL time in which I make you all listen about Mako’s family
Tumblr media
First up we have Rina, his wife—she’s a couple years older than Mako and is a friend of Huan’s which is how she and Mako first met. Her family is originally from the Fire Nation and she grew up spending half the year there and half in Republic City. She’s also an artist and works primarily in oil paints.
Tumblr media
The twins are San, after Mako’s father, and Moriko, in reference to Lin. San’s very much like Mako in personality but he’s got much more of an abstract and creative mind. He eventually develops vitiligo like his mom and goes to Lin because he’s self conscious about it and she helps him a lot with his self confidence. He likes to use firebending in unconventional ways for his artwork. He’s also got a very strong love for animals and has been begging for a pet iguana parrot.
Tumblr media
Moriko is very bright and bubbly and reminds Mako a lot of Bolin, but she’s a lot more analytical and very wise beyond her years. She’s a writer in her spare time. Mako and Lin tried to talk her out of going into the police force when she first announced that was her goal, but once she sets her mind on something, there’s no going back. People do compare her to Lin on occasion and she’s quite pleased when that happens because she and her brother love Lin to pieces.

Father of the Bride
Hakoda swallowed hard against a lump in his throat. He had imagined this day so many times since Katara's birth. The details were different, though. She wasn't marrying a proven warrior from among their people. That was fine. She had spent so much time traveling the world, expanding her horizons, creating her own paths. Hakoda didn't think there were one in a thousand men at home who could keep up with the woman his daughter had become, and he had resigned himself to the fact that she might not end up with a Southern Tribe man years ago.
But he hadn't considered that her marriage might take her so permanently from home. A foolish oversight on his part, he admitted. And at least she would have the means to visit her family a few times a year. Still, as he watched the final preparations being made on Katara's wedding gown-a stunning piece of art even to Hakoda's untrained eye. All silks and linens in shades of blue and silver that recalled the bridal outfits of her homeland. Furs and leathers would be too hot for the climate, but Katara wanted to tell everyone up front how she would bring her own culture to merge with her new people. Her groom-to-be not only supported this decision, but had come to Hakoda and Sokka to ask them how he, too, could incorporate the Southern Water Tribe into the wedding on his end. That had been a long night, with strong drinks and stronger emotions, but at the end of it, Hakoda had decided that despite his initial misgivings about the marriage, he couldn't have picked a better son-in-law than Zuko.
Fire Lord Zuko. Fire Lord Zuko was going to be his son-in-law. Sometimes the thought made Hakoda chuckle. Sometimes it sent a chill down his spine. Not that he was worried about Zuko himself, but Katara's proximity to his throne. The crown. She would be coronated the next night in a ceremony as lavish as the wedding. She would become the Fire Lady. Co-ruler of the country that had spent a hundred years ruining countless lives with a war over something as silly as imperialist pride. Hakoda didn't think they deserved his daughter. If Zuko had earned his trust and respect, the rest of the Fire Nation certainly haven't. Not the nobles, anyway. When he brought them up to Katara, she laughed, though it didn't reach her eyes, which were flint hard and grimly determined. She told him no matter where she went in the world, she would have to fight for any respect she got. At least here she would have Zuko fighting beside her. Hakoda wasn't sure he agreed that was a worthy trade off, but he knew better than to try to talk his daughter out of it.
The Fire Nation had already benefited from her presence. As a foreign advisor, she had fostered trade and exchange agreements between the Fire Nation and all of the Water Tribes, Omashu and Gaoling. As an ambassador, she'd helped negotiate reparation packages that have helped the parts of the world hit hardest by the war recover. As one of Zuko's most trusted counselors, she'd helped him work the Fire Nation's budget so the government could provide for education, health and services for returning soldiers. The same kinds of programs she'd helped Hakoda and Sokka build in the Southern Water Tribe. It suddenly struck Hakoda that she had been acting as Fire Lady for a long time. Before she and Zuko had even realized they were in love, maybe. Today and tomorrow would just make it official. Hakoda still didn't think the Fire Nation deserved a Katara, but any chance he had of talking her out of it had long since slipped by him. And he now he wasn't sure he would talk her out of it, even if he did have the chance.
The final touches were done. The maids stepped back in a flurry of excited chatter. Kanna stepped forward, moving stiffly in her old age, smiling up at her granddaughter through tears. She had had this moment with Kya years ago, and Kya should be standing in her place now. Kanna reached out and ran her fingertips over the necklace she had passed to her daughter, and her daughter had passed on to Katara. Kya was here, Kanna assured herself. And Kya would be here with Katara as she made these next steps, first as a wife, then as a queen, then someday as a mother and grandmother herself.
"She would be so proud," Kanna told Katara. The two women embraced. Then Katara stood up, head high and looking as regal as any queen in any nation ever had, and turned to Hakoda.
"Are you ready, Dad?" she asked. Hakoda shook his head.
"I was never going to be ready for this," he confessed. "But it doesn't matter. You are ready."

"Fine, I'll go with you." and Kya/Lin, please
Ooooo goody. Let's see if I can still channel these two lovely ladies.
You can decide if this is an established relationship or not.
Lin did her best work in chaos. As much as she relied on rules and regulations, she excelled in a messy situation. And this was certainly a messy situation.
A building had collapsed downtown and another was threatening to fall. It would probably take a few weeks to sort out the cause, but it didn't matter in the moment. They had people to rescue and an entire neighborhood to evacuate.
Part of the second building fell before they expected and everyone was covered in dust and bruises. But her force knew their jobs and they were running like a well oiled machine. Two perimeters had been set up, one for civilians and another for rescue workers; there were four different triage stations with rotating healers; her metal benders were working to stabilize the remaining buildings; her officers were pulling people from the rubble.
And Lin stood in the middle of it, barking orders, with complete control. Oh yes, Chief Beifong did her best work in chaos.
The only problem was that her shoulder was hurting. She couldn't bend wooden beams and had been otherwise occupied protecting the rescuers around her from the falling debris during the second partial collapse. She should probably see a healer.
Several had offered to treat her when she stopped by a triage tent to receive updates, but she hasn't had the time. And now it was starting to stiffen alongside the lasting ache.
"Chief, can I see you for a moment?" Fully garbed in scrubs, Kya was standing slightly behind to her left. The presence of the woman didn't surprise her; she had directed her to a triage tent about three hours ago. It was more surprising that Kya had left her post.
"You should be with the critical," said Lin roughly, turning her attention back to the scene in front of her. She tried not to say anything about Kya being so close to the scene of the collapse; Lin knew she shouldn't worry. But she did anyway. "And out of Zone 1. You aren't authorized to be here."
"Some of your officers need attention. I have done what I can with the civilians." Kya took a few steps towards Lin.
"That's far enough, Healer Kya," snapped Lin.
Kya smirked and took another step forward. Assertively she said, "You can retreat back to the Command tent and I can treat you there. Or I can stay here..."
There was some shouting from the metal benders around the building and another portion crumbled to the ground, narrowly missing anyone below. Lin leapt to where Kya stood, prepared to protect her in case anything else fell. Kya was far too close to the wreckage for Lin's comfort.
More shouting from the metal benders could be heard and after a few tense seconds, it seemed to Lin that the situation was back under control. It was then when Lin realized just how close she was standing to Kya. The other woman was smirking at her in amusement.
"I told you to get out of here. There's a reason healers are supposed to be in the triage tents," grumbled Lin. To her dismay, Kya did not relent or even take a step back. They were practically touching at this point.
"I'm not going to leave until I take a look at your injuries." Kya's blue eyes were smiling, even if her face remained neutral. It irritated Lin that she didn't seem to have a care for her own wellbeing.
"I will find you when I'm done."
"Ok, then I'll just go see if any of your officers over there need treatment."
Kya moved forward, pushing past her to make towards the unstable building and rubble. Lin grabbed her arm, wincing in pain as she did so. It was a dead giveaway to how serious her injury actually was and Kya didn't miss it.
They stared at each for a few heartbeats before Lin, in a desperate attempt to get Kya away from the danger, said, "Fine, I'll go with you."
An overly confident grin broke across Kya's face and Lin knew in an instant that she had been duped.
Damn that woman.
