Headcannon that, at some point, Zuko gets a pet turtle duck.

He names it Dragon, and calls it his favorite advisor (Sokka is absolutely mortified, he’s losing to a bird).

Dragon follows Zuko to every single meeting and will bite anyone who is rude to him, causing meetings to be a lot more civil from then on.

Occasionally, when somebody’s being especially stupid, he’ll consult with Dragon.

Zuko: What do you think?

Dragon: *quack*

Zuko: Right. Well, the duck thinks that’s stupid so we’re not going to do that.

(Also, he sometimes refers to it as The Dragon of the West, and Iroh is delighted)

Hey there OG Avatar fans, let’s have a chat.

So, the show is on Netflix now, with a live action remake in the works. Nice.

But we all know what this means: new fans.

Some (I hope most) of you are excited about that. I know I am. I’ve been a member of this fandom for 12 years, and I’m eager for this story I love so much to find it’s place in new hearts and minds.

But there are others, “gatekeepers” as I’ve heard them described, who may wish to exclude or degrade newcomers.

So, a few concepts for your consideration:

1. Don’t be a gatekeeper. This fandom is for everyone.

2. Call out gatekeepers when you encounter them.

3. LETS NOT RELIVE THE FULL BLOWN KATAANG VS ZUTARA SHIP WAR HELL ALRIGHT CIVIL DEBATES ONLY.

Okay so can we talk about how amazing the worldbuilding is in ATLA, particularly concerning how the bending works?

It acknowledges both the limitations and the possibilities of bending. There's no self-immunity, something that's established from the first introduction of Zuko, a firebender with a very obvious burn scar. There are specialized subsets of benders, abilities that only certain people within that element have - bloodbending, metalbending and lightningbending (and later lavabending in LOK). Accommodations are made in prisons that are meant to hold benders - a metal rig for earthbenders, a dry place for waterbenders. Waterbenders can heal, because water can heal. And they can bend things by bending the water in them, first seen in the swamp with the plantbender guy, and later Hama the bloodbender. They all learned their abilities from something, usually an animal of some sort. Temperature changes can be done through bending, seen mostly with waterbenders using ice, but also with earthbenders using lava. It's just so well thought out and I love it.
