It suddenly came to my mind that the Star Wars sequels could have actually been pretty powerful if Disney chose "reforming and renewing old systems is messy because of the flaws that caused their fall, but through reexamining our past there is hope to rebuild" as a message with the Republic instead of " your faves are failures and now you are going to watch them all sacrifice themselves for their kid you're for some reason supposed to care about as everything they worked for falls apart, anyway root for our new characters" like we got.
Imagine the sequels where the OT trio (and possibly the new characters too) are struggling because they are facing the inherent flaws of the old system they are trying to bring back, but instead of falling apart and repeating the mistakes of their predecessors, they learn from them and create a better Republic for everyone in the galaxy to live, same with the Jedi Order (which was partly present in the OG EU, but that continuity is also messy as hell). Instead of once again putting hope in the future generations as everything goes to ruin again, they manage to fix the present and defeat the Imperial remnants as the galaxy is united once again because this time, there is more to the Republic than just corruption and outdated ways.
Alas, that would require adding politics and actually taking risks, which Disney is not known for.
Why in the world does anyone think this whole "you have to see half of our other movies to understand what's going on even though it isn't a direct sequel to most of those" is a good thing? Like, I get why Disney does it, but why are the fans on board with it?
All of this just seems like an evolution of the dreadful "you have to read the supplementary material for our movie to make complete sense... or at least a sembalance of it" thing Disney seems to have previously engaged in (looking at you, Star Wars sequels), and yet people somehow still defend it.
As someone who struggles to ship Nanami with anyone, I find it rather curious how popular Nanami x reader is. Like, with other characters reader insert stuff exists for those that are into it, but is usually not as big as ships between canon characters, but looking at his character tag, Twitter searches and the first several pages of Ao3, it's the most popular ship with him alongside Nanago, apparently?
I wonder what are the reasons for this... Nanami certainly is a top-tier husbando material, and people out there dreaming of marrying him certainly picked a good one. But I've also seen plenty of other good husbando characters who don't have it to the same extent? Or is it that most people just aren't as interested in other ships with him? I sorta have a similar problem in the sense that I am curious about several things/ conflicts/ possible plot hooks I see if Nanami had a love interest, most of the ships staring other characters with him are just "ok" to me, but also, there's no way I'm ever shipping my lame ass with any fictional character. Or is it something else?
Just curious to think what is the reason behind such a huge reader-insert popularity with this character in particular.
Those JJK0 leaks make me really wish there was a spinoff about Nanami where he fights/ investigates different curses, learns about their history and contemplates on it (think paranormal investigator type shows like the X-Files meets the drama of some of the Witcher 3's side quests). Is it the most original premise? No. Would I still watch the hell out of it? Fuck yeah.
