Battling Nightmares
TimKon, Hurt and Comfort, Fluff, Cuddles, Idiots in love, Literal Sleeping together.
A/N: This has been inspired by this post from @timdrakebrainworms I read it and wanted to put it into a story, I hope they don't mind!
Enjoy! :D
Blinking into the darkness, Kon frowns and wonders what’s going on. As his mind is fogged up with sleep, nothing registers for a long moment. The clock on his bedside table tells him it’s two in the morning, and considering how tired Kon has been recently he’s confused to what could have woken him up at such an hour.
A soft sound reaches his ears, and while it’s tempting to fall back to sleep, he wouldn’t have woken up without a reason and going back to sleep wasn't an option until he worked out what was wrong. He props himself up on his arms and glances around the dark room, finding nothing amiss he stares into the darkness, perhaps if he concentrates he’ll be able to hear that sound again.
The sound comes again and this time Kon catches it. It’s a soft whisper coming from outside his bedroom. It was so soft that even with his super hearing Kon would’ve had trouble picking up on it, however because Kon’s so tuned in on the person whose whisper it was, he’s not surprised he heard it.
Without thinking Kon jumps out of bed and rushes across the room to the door, any lingering sleepiness is now gone and has been replaced by worry and adrenaline. He throws open his door and darts across the hall straight into the opposite room. He slows down enough to shut the door and immediately heads to the bed where his best friend sits hunched over hugging his  knees to his chest with his head ducked down resting on them.
Crouching down by the mattress Kon sighs softly, his heart feels heavy inside his chest as he looks at Tim. This isn’t new. The nightmares. Every night without fail for the last two weeks Tim’s woken up during the night due to the terrors that haunt his sleeping mind.
At the end of the first week it got bad enough to the point where Tim refused to even go to bed, and then continued to refuse for nearly four days. It took Kon, Dick, Bruce and even Ma Kent - not mentioning his complete exhaustion – to convince Tim to go to bed and sleep.
For the last week, Kon coming to Tim after he wakes from a nightmare has become routine. Once Kon drilled it into Tim’s head that he wanted Tim to call out for him when he woke, Tim had done so and each and every time Kon’s been willing to comfort his best friend after the ordeal.
Tonight is no different.
“Tim.” Kon calls out softly. He doesn't want to accidently startle Tim, that never ends well. “Hey it’s okay, I’m here. I heard you.”
“Kon.” Tim’s voice comes out muffled from where his face is buried in his knees.
Now knowing Tim’s acknowledged his presence, he gently grasps his leg. “Yeah I’m here. What do you need?”
Over the last week Kon’s come to learn Tim wants different things depending on how he’s feeling after waking up. Sometimes it’s cuddles, he just wants a solid hold around him and someone by his side as he recovers. Sometimes it’s no touch at all and just quiet company in the room. Other times he wants to be distracted and they end up playing video games or watching a film.
“Cuddles.”
Kon nods and starts getting situated on Tim’s bed next to him. Stretching out and getting comfortable, Kon reaches over and pulls Tim into his side, he sweeps his hand up and down Tim’s back in a motion of comfort. His best friend stays curled up but he leans into Kon. He knows from experience it’ll take some time for Tim to calm down and relax against him.
As time goes by, Tim slowly relaxes. It’s surprisingly comfortable to hold Tim against him, Kon wishes it was different circumstances and hates how Tim is constantly plagued by nightmares after what had happened weeks ago.
Once Tim is relaxed against him, stretched out with his arms wrapped around Kon’s waist and his head resting on Kon’s shoulder, Kon breaks the silence between them, “how are you feeling? Would you like to talk about it?”
Again these questions are part of the routine and often have different answers. Sometimes Tim will speak up about it, other times he won’t.
This time Tim doesn’t want to. He shakes his head and lets out a long resigned sigh. Kon accepts the answer, forcing Tim to talk won’t achieve anything other than aggression of some sort, and ducks his head to press a kiss to Tim's hair.
“Okay. Do you want to try and go back to sleep, it’s still early.”
Tim groans, “I don’t think I can.”
Kon smiles weakly at the almost whine. Under different circumstances it would have been both adorable and amusing. Using one hand he strokes his fingers through Tim’s hair, the other now stays still on Tim’s back keeping him pressed close to Kon.
“Well, I think you can. I’m here now, I’ll keep the nightmares away.”
“Gonna fight them off like you do bad guys and robots?” Tim asks, his tone now lightening up.
Kon gives Tim a squeeze.  “Yup. They aren’t getting past me!”
Tim snorts and smacks Kon at the ridiculousness of it. As laughable as the concept may be Kon managed to lighten Tim’s mood – even if only for a moment – so he’ll take it.
Tim sighs and settles against Kon again and Kon mimics the action and relaxes deeper into the mattress beneath him. He presses another kiss to Tim’s head and readjusts the covers around them. “C’mon, we can get another hour or two before dawn breaks.”
Kon’s promise reins true as Tim doesn't have another nightmare that night. They wake up together and Kon checks in with Tim, they talk for an hour before emerging from the bedroom to join their teammates for breakfast. No one comments on how they come out of the room looking suggestively sleep rumpled, like everything else about the situation it’s become normal for Kon to stay in Tim’s room when he has a nightmare, the rest of the team are use to it by now.
That night Kon tries something different. After Tim calls it a night, looking displeased with the decision, Kon decides to follow him. He says his goodnights to the team who all weirdly roll their eyes at him, and heads for his bedroom. He goes through his nightly routine however instead of getting into his own bed he traipses across the hall and enters Tim’s room.
Standing in the middle of the room Kon finds Tim scowling at the bed, clearly unhappy about going to sleep. After a moment of no movement Kon speaks up, grinning at the way Tim startles. “Are you planning to sleep standing up or are you going to use the bed?”
Tim glares at him for a second before dropping the look. He runs a hand through his hair and looks despondent. “I hate this,” Tim says, “just knowing I’ll wake up in a few hours terrified out of my mind. Finding myself again completely at mercy-”
Before he could say anything more Kon steps up to him and puts his hands firmly on Tim’s shoulders. “Hey. If you keep thinking about it before you go to sleep it’s all your mind will focus on. I know it’s hard but things will get better, they’ll stop soon.”
Tim shakes his head and Kon’s heart breaks at the expression on his face. Kon pulls Tim in for a tight hug. “I was thinking what if I joined you in bed now? We can sleep together and I can keep my promise of fighting the nightmares away. Only if you want too of course.”
Pulling out of the hug Tim looks uncertain. “Are you sure? I don’t want to keep you awake all night with my tossing and turning.”
Kon rolls his eyes and pushes Tim to the bed, he forces him under the covers and quickly joins him. “Dude, you say that like I’ve never slept next to you before. We’ve been doing an awful lot of bed sharing these last couple of weeks. I’ll be fine. I just want to make sure you’re okay.”
Tim stares at him for a moment before nodding accepting it. He smiles shyly. “Thanks. I do actually sleep better next to you.”
Unable to help himself Kon presses a kiss to his hair before moving to turn off the bedside lamp. The room plunges into darkness and Kon gathers Tim close as they both settle down for the night.
It becomes a thing. In the weeks following, Kon now spends the entire night with Tim instead of just half when Tim calls out for him. Unfortunately Kon loses some battles against the nightmares because Tim still has them even when sleeping next to Kon, but his presence undeniably helps.
Whenever they’re at the tower, at the manor or at the farm they just share a bed. It feels so natural to sleep together now, it doesn't even occur to them anymore to not share a bed. The only time they sleep apart is they’re in separate locations or on missions.
Two months after the ordeal Tim’s nightmares have mostly come to a stop, they still occur maybe once a week or in ten days if he’s lucky. Even after the nightmares stopped they continued bed sharing, again because it felt right and comfortable to do so.
Three months after the ordeal Kon and Tim officially get together as a couple in a romantic relationship. In the months they have been bed sharing, Kon’s gotten to know Tim in a completely new way which is saying something considering how well he knew Tim before everything happened.
He had always felt deeper affection for Tim with him being his best friend, but in the nights he spent lying next to the guy, Kon discovered the affection ran much deeper than he realised, and most definitely in a different way. It turns out his feelings were reciprocated.
After a particularly bad night Tim ended up confessing his feelings for Kon, at first Kon hadn’t believed him, thinking it was stress and an emotional release from the nightmare, however the following day Tim made it perfectly clear it wasn't a false confession. From there they went from best friends to boyfriends. A rather incredible upgrade Kon would say.
They kept quiet about their relationship for a little while before announcing it to the team. It wasn’t so much they were worried about what their friends would think but rather they wanted to explore the romantic side of their relationship before sharing it.
When they announced it to the team, with everyone gathered in the media room, everyone ended up with a confused expression on their face. It turns out they were confused for a different reason than what he and Tim were expecting.
“You’re saying you only got together a couple weeks ago?” Cassie stares mystified at them like they had grown another head each.
Kon shares a look with Tim. “Uh yeah… what do you… this is not the reaction I was expecting.”
“So you guys haven’t been dating for years! You’ve only just got together?”
Tim gawks at her. “Wait what? What do you mean?”
“Dudes,” Bart drawls at them while munching on pretzels, “we all thought you were already dating! And had been dating for years! We figured you didn’t want any fuss about coming out so you just didn’t.”
Both Kon and Tim were shocked into silence by that little revelation.
“Kon is so touchy feely with Tim unlike anyone else, ever, and Tim the prickly cactus he is, allows it all to happen.” Bart carries on talking.
Cassie jumps in with her own comment. “Don’t forget about all the bed sharing and cuddling. Like none of that is platonic. Granted we never heard you guys going at it, we just thought you were incredibly discrete, or it’s because of Tim’s insane soundproofing he has.”
Kon feels his face heat up and when he glances at Tim he finds his boyfriend impersonating a tomato rather accurately.
“Well we weren’t dating,” Kon tells him unable to meet anyone’s eyes, “but now we are. So…” he waves a hand around as his sentence trails off. He doesn’t know what to do with this situation anymore and would rather it end.
Thankfully Vic becomes his saviour because he calls out, “now the oblivious lovebirds are done, are we doing this or what?”
That breaks the room up and everyone settles down to watch the screen. Kon lets out a breath and turns to find Tim staring at him, looking embarrassed but relieved. He smiles at Kon and Kon’s instant reaction is to smile back.
“Oi!”
The shouts makes them both jump and it’s only then Kon realises they had been staring at one another like lovestruck fools.
“If you’re gonna make out you have bedrooms for that particular activity, otherwise sit your asses down and enjoy the movie.”
While making out with Tim sounds awesome, and hot as hell, he takes Tim’s hand and guides him to a free space on the couch where they settle down together and get involved with the team bonding. No one cares they’re together romantically and Kon is pleased to continue going forward surrounded by his friends and with an amazing, strong, boyfriend at his side.

Bruce Wayne, sitting in a cute eco-friendly cafe while on a video call with Tim: Oh Noooo, are you sure there’s no way the board of directors will let us get rid of this old decrepit Wayne Factory building that is unsafe for our workers and also for the surrounding environment?
CEO Tim, with equal gravitas: No, I’m afraid they just won’t budge. It technically meets legal requirements on paper, and we can’t prove that the chemicals affecting the local ecosystem that have no other possible source are from the out-of-date drainage system… they’re saying it would cost too much to fix the place up too, which is ridiculous, because we’re us, but our hands are tied…
Bruce, full Brucie himbo mode: Oh I just feel so SAD for all the sweet fluffy animals and the pretty flowers and especially our hard workers dealing with such unsafe conditions… I think I’ll give them all a nice short vacation this weekend, so the ENTIRE PLACE will be EMPTY and SHUT DOWN from FRIDAY TO TUESDAY, the SECURITY SYSTEM WILL BE DOWN because it’s just so GLITCHY, I’m sure nothing will happen to the ENVIRONMENTAL STAIN ON OUR COMPANIES NAME THAT WILL BE COMPLETELY ABANDONED FROM FRIDAY TO TUESDAY- Timmy do you think I’m being too subtle?
Tim, snickering: no no you’re doing great Bruce I’m sure they’ve got it
Poison Ivy, on a date the next table over: ( ‘-‘)-☕️
Harley, through tears of repressed laughter: so… we doing anythin’ this weekend?

Stand By Me
TimKon, Tim & Bruce, Canon Divergence Infinite Crisis, Kon lives, Injury, Hurt/Comfort, Friendship, Angst.
Summary: It’s been three weeks since what they are now calling the Infinite Crisis. The Crisis led to much devastation, not to just their world, but across all multi-dimensions, hundreds of lives have been lost, both hero, villain and civilian alike.
Even now Tim still can’t comprehend what happened to his best friend all those weeks ago. He's been sat inside his hospital room, unmoving, as he waits for his best friend to wake up after he went knocking on death's door.
A/N: This if for the 'Hospital Stay' square on my Bad Things Happen Bingo Card. It's a canon divergence of Infinite Crisis where Kon lives.
Also on AO3
Enjoy! :D
“Tim, it’s been ten days. You can’t keep staying in here.”
Technically it’s been nine days, fourteen hours and thirty-six minutes, not that Tim is going to correct him. He hums in acknowledgment but otherwise continues to stare ahead and ignores the concerned gaze on him.
“Tim.”
At the sharp tone Tim finally turns around and faces the man behind him. He scowls feeling irritable by the constant badgering everyone keeps doing to him.
“I’m not leaving.” He states firmly. “I am not going anywhere, not until he wakes up and is back up on his feet. I’m not going and you can’t make me.”
“That could be another month or two Tim.”
“Then I’ll be staying here for that month or two. I mean it. I’m not going anywhere.”
Being done with the conversation Tim turns back around and pointedly ignores the man behind him. He shouldn’t really, no one ever puts their back to Batman, but Tim doesn't care. All his attention and focus is on the unconscious body lying on the hospital bed in front of him.
It’s been three weeks since what they are now calling the Infinite Crisis. And those three weeks have been hell. The Crisis led to much devastation, not to just their world, but across all multi-dimensions, hundreds of lives have been lost, both hero, villain and civilian alike. Even whole cities had been destroyed. Throughout the last three weeks it’s taken a humongous effort from everyone in the community to try and gain some sort of normalcy after what happened and they’re still nowhere near out of the fire just yet.
For ten (nine) of those twenty-one days since the Crisis, Tim’s been sat inside this hospital room, unmoving, as he waits for his best friend to wake up from a coma he’d fallen into.
Kon went knocking on deaths door during the Crisis.
Even now Tim still can’t comprehend what happened to his best friend. Kon had been willing to  sacrifice himself to defeat Superboy Prime and the machine that threatened the multiverse. Kon had sustained fatal injuries during the battle with Prime and gained even more after he crashed them both into the machine which ultimately stopped it. Kon almost succumbed to his injuries but miraculously made it through.
It’s not been a smooth recovery. Kon had flatlined two times there on the battlefield and once more several hours later. The medical team had thankfully managed to stabilise him and keep him alive long enough for his body to start healing on its own, even with his Kryptonian genetics it took time for the healing genes to kick in.
For the first seven days Tim hadn’t been allowed to see him, Clark had kept Kon away at the fortress and refused to let anyone to see him. After that week Clark allowed Kon to be moved into the Justice League based hospital, even then Tim still hadn’t been allowed to see him for another four days. Just as Tim had been ready to blow the hospital doors down Clark allowed him entry and since then Tim hasn’t once left.
He’s occasionally popped out to either go toilet or a quick shower but he’s never been gone longer than ten minutes. Others have popped by and stayed with him, other frequent visitors have been Bart and Cassie who thankfully also survived the Crisis, they’ve all told him they’ll watch over Kon while he gets some fresh air and a proper night’s sleep but Tim's refused to leave each and every time. It feels like the moment he takes his eyes off Kon he’ll never see him again.
Bruce has been by to check on Tim nearly every day since he’s set up shop in Kon's room. Every time he would ask Tim if he wanted anything or telling him it’s okay for him to leave. Tim appreciates the concern, especially with everything that’s been going on, and how his focus has been needed elsewhere, but after several days of this it’s frustrating now and Tim doesn't get why Bruce wouldn’t leave him alone. Out of his kids Bruce really ought to be focusing on Dick more than him, Dick has been one of the people who has suffered the most in the Crisis considering his entire city had been demolished. He’s going through a lot and needs the support.
There's a rustle of movement behind him and suddenly Bruce is crouching down beside the chair Tim is sat in. Tim pointedly looks the other way and does his best to ignore the man. Bruce has other ideas because he reaches over, cups his cheek and turns Tim so he’s looking at him.
Not having the energy Tim doesn't fight against it although he closes his eyes so he doesn’t have to look at the man whose still staring at him in concern.
“Tim can you look at me.” Tim stubbornly doesn’t. “Tim, please.” A moment later Tim hears a harsh sigh come from the man and while he feels somewhat bad for his behaviour he still refuses to look at Bruce. The hand falls away from his cheek and he feels Bruce shift by his chair. “Okay, don’t look but at least listen to what I have to say.” Tim doesn’t acknowledge him although Bruce must have expected this as he continues talking anyway.
Whatever he says goes straight over Tim’s head because the moment the man opened his mouth a beep sounded out from one of the machines next to Kon’s head at the end of the bed. His attention immediately zeroed in on the noise, effectively blocking everything – Bruce – out and Tim studied the machine with laser focus trying to work out what it could mean. When nothing out of the ordinary could be noted Tim changed his focus to his best friend looking for any signs of him either waking up or if something is wrong. Again nothing appears out of the ordinary. Kon simply looks like he’s taking a nap.
A hand on his shoulder roughly shaking him averts his attention away from Kon and back to the other man in the room, who Tim had completely forgotten about.
Bruce is scowling at him, but Tim could see the worry underneath the cold exterior. “Were you even listening to what I was saying?”
Tim didn’t see the point in lying. Truth be told he didn’t really care. “No. I’m not leaving so stop trying to get to me go. It’s not happening.”
Bruce lets out a sharp exhale and he gets up from his crouched position. There’s suddenly an air around him that has Tim’s senses going on high alert for the first time since the man entered the hospital room. Bruce leans in closely to Tim, looming over him as he rests his hands on the arms of the chair effectively caging Tim in.
Tim couldn’t make himself look away this time. His heart is pounding inside his chest as he starts feeling a little panicked at the cold look Bruce is sending his way. It’s also the first time Tim sees the exhaustion on the man, everything that’s happened since the Crisis weighing heavily on his shoulders.
“I am going to say this once. This is your only warning, do you understand?” Bruce lowly says looking straight at Tim in the eyes. Tim swallows and nods. “Two days. If you have not left this room within two days I am going to come back here and physically drag you out. I know you’re concerned about your friend and it’s admirable on how much you want to stay by his side during this time, however neglecting yourself and your health isn’t helping anyone. It isn’t helping you, it isn’t helping me, or Dick, Cass, your team and it certainly isn’t helping Conner. With the way you’re going, you’ll end up in a bed next to him. Is that what you want Tim?”
Bruce pauses and looks expectantly at Tim as if waiting for an answer to his rhetorical question. Finding himself unable to form words Tim shakes his head anyway.
Bruce stares at him for a moment longer for which Tim holds his breath, unsure on what the man’s next move is going to be. In the end he simply grunts before straightening up and leaves the hospital room. It takes Tim a moment to remember how to breathe again once he’s gone.
Two days later Bruce sees his threat through. During this time Tim had known the man wasn't joking about forcing him to leave, but the threat didn’t stop him from not leaving Kon’s hospital room. He kinda regrets not leaving (in reality he would never) when Bruce comes into Kon’s hospital room and immediately pins Tim with a look.
Tim doesn’t hesitate. He springs out of the chair and darts towards the small supply closet within the room. He should be able to squeeze in there and avoid Bruce.
Just as he has hold of the handle, an arm wraps around his waist and hoists him up and away from the door. Tim yelps and squirms trying to escape but the hold stays firm even as he’s placed back on ground facing the opposite away from the closet. Bruce’s free hand grabs one of his own, extra caution to make sure he doesn’t go anywhere, and the arm wrapped around his waist lets go so the man can use both hands to grab both of Tim’s.
Within one moment and the next Tim’s wrists were suddenly encased in handcuffs. He makes an indignant sound and tries loosening them to no avail. Before he could be verbal about his protest Bruce is wrapping an arm around his waist once again and this time throws Tim over his shoulder and starts making his way out of the room. Tim gets one more glance at an unmoving Kon in his hospital bed, the exact same position he has been in for the last twelve days, before the door closes.
Knowing it was useless, Tim still tries to fight his way to freedom. He kicks out and wiggles around, trying anything to make Bruce loosen the hold he has on him however the man appears unaffected by Tim’s attempts at freedom. He keeps walking casually down the corridor as if carrying his handcuffed teenage son over his shoulder is an everyday occurrence.
Bruce only stops once their outside by the car. Bruce opens the passenger door and finally puts Tim down onto his feet although the man keeps a hand on his shoulder and firmly guides him into the seat. Tim huffs at the manhandling but otherwise doesn’t protest. He sits obediently in the car as Bruce makes his way around to the other side and climbs into the driver’s seat. After a moment Bruce eyes him sideways and clicks a button on the dashboard, a second later he could hear the click of the locks locking. Tim rolls his eyes. He may be tempted to jump out of a moving car, it wouldn’t be the first time, but handcuffed and feeling exhausted has him thinking otherwise so Bruce shouldn’t be so paranoid.
--------
Tim’s allowed back into Kon’s hospital room five days later. Durning those five days Tim had been under constant supervision in a nearby penthouse which Bruce owns. He ate full three meals a day, snacks too, showered, stretched and exercised lightly, and even somehow managed to have a couple full night sleeps.
Returning to Kon's side he feels better and refreshed, not that he’d ever admit it to Bruce. He never stopped worrying about Kon’s condition but the break away from the hospital room did give Tim somewhat of a mental break. The team thankfully kept him up to date with Kon’s condition, Cassie and Bart often facetimed Tim when they were in Kon’s room, allowing Tim to see Kon for himself while he was away.
It was only hours later after Tim returned to the hospital room when Kon started to stir, for the first time he showed signs of waking up. Tim was right beside him as he groggily woke, completely out of it and confused, Tim did his best to reassure Kon of where he is and how he’s going to be okay while he paged the onsite doctor. Kon fell asleep only moments after waking up, it didn’t deter Tim however because for the first time in weeks he’s hopeful for his best friend’s recovery.
It happened in stages and Kon’s recovery is a slow progress. He wakes up on and off, as confused as the first time for a couple days before his wakings gradually increased and his coherence improved.
“How long have I been here?” Kon asks disbelievingly. He’s still rough, he’s lost weight and his skin has lost colour but Tim doesn't care about those things. His best friend is alive and that’s all that matters. Everything else can be recovered with time.
Tim absently strokes the skin of Kon’s hand from where he’s holding it in his own. “Four weeks give or take.” Tim tells him, it’s not like he hasn’t kept track. He suddenly feels himself welling up, hit by an onslaught of emotion out of nowhere.
“You’ve been here for weeks, it was all touch and go for a while and Clark had you hidden away in the fortress for a week then you were moved here, it’s been a long ass few weeks Kon, you have no idea, I didn’t know if you were going to make it, your heart stopped Kon. Three times! It stopped three times and then you wouldn’t wake up. Day after day after day. You wouldn’t wake up-”
Tim sucks in a sharp breath, effectively halting his rambling, when a hand touches his cheek. He hadn’t realised he worked himself up into a frenzy until he stopped talking. Tears were streaming from his eyes and breathing was a bit of a struggle.
“Tim – hey Tim, look at me – look at me…”
Kon’s words break through the fog in his mind and Tim meets the eyes of his best friend. Eyes that were finally open after weeks of waiting for them to do so.
“Breathe with me, Rob.”
Kon guides him through a breathing exercise which does the trick of calming him down to the point where he can think clearly again. Tim sniffs and wipes his face with his jumper sleeve before letting out a huff.
“You’re the one in the hospital bed and here I am having a breakdown.”
Kon just stares at him and despite the exhaustion clear on his face Tim could see the concern in his gaze.
“I’m not the only one going through things Tim.” He says simply. “C’mere.”
“What? No Kon-” Kon grabs Tim and starts tugging him onto his bed, after only a moment of resisting Tim lets his friend manhandle him around to his liking only because he doesn't want Kon to hurt himself. Soon enough he finds himself lying next to Kon, head resting on his shoulder and his body curled up facing towards Kon’s, his hand resting over Kon's heart feeling the steady beat underneath the skin.
Kon’s hand runs across his back and shoulder in comforting strokes. Neither of them say anything as they lie there together, simply breathing and taking in comfort from the other and listening to the steady beep of Kon’s monitors.
Tim ends up fiddling with Kon’s fingers of the hand not on his back. “I was so scared, I almost lost you,” he admits quietly. After a moment he thinks Kon hadn’t heard him or that he’s fallen asleep however when Tim looks up at his best friend he finds Kon staring at him with an indescribable look on his face.
“I don’t remember a lot of what happened leading up to… that,” Kon starts softly, not looking away from Tim. “I remember there being pain, and anger, and just the want to beat him to stop it from happening. I’ve been told it’s like a trauma response, me forgetting I mean, supposedly it’s to help myself recover, the doctors say I may remember more details down the line or even not at all. I don’t know what scares me more.”
Kon breathes deeply before glancing away.
“I want to thank you Tim,” at Tim’s frown Kon immediately shushes him, “no, I mean it. I get this hasn’t been easy for you, I’ve heard the stories of you never leaving my side and I want to say thank you for never giving up on me or for never letting me be alone even when I was unconscious.”
Tim shakes his head smiling sadly. “Of course I wasn't going to give up on you. You’re a fighter through and through, stubborn as a mule too. I didn’t want you to be alone. You’d do it for me.”
They’re best friends. Everyone knows this. There isn’t anything they wouldn’t do for each other.
Kon reaches up and cups Tim’s face, he leans forward and rests his forehead against Tim’s and Tim embraces the hold, even moving to hold Kon back. They’re here. They’re both alive. They’re both going to be fine. Tim can’t imagine living in a world without his best friend.

why is everyone so averse to the comedy of this? you know core four have a running tally of "weirdest places we've found rob conked the fuck out". bart found him snoring on the stairs one time, head on one step, feet a few steps down. cassie discovered him snoozing in the gym, sprawled out on the bench press bench in a position that could Not have been comfortable. kon has stumbled upon him curled up against the side of the supercycle (why didn't he just get in the seats and lie down properly? who knows). this guy LOVES to be asleep. he does so much all the time. he's tired. he's eepy. let him eep

Summary: The whole situation is ridiculous. If getting a tooth knocked out this early in their relationship is the start, then Tim has no idea what is instore for his future as he continues to date a professional hockey player. Undoubtedly it’ll include a lot of TLC, it’s a good thing he’s willing to provide that particular service for his boyfriend then isn’t it.
A/N: This is for my 'Tooth Knocked Out' square on my Bad Things Happen Bingo Card. This is also a sort of sequel to Hey Gorgeous. You don't need to read that to understand this!
Enjoy! :D
Tim wasn’t there when it happened. Which is probably for the best however that doesn’t mean finding out over a phone call hours later is any better.
His phone rings as he’s taking a breather. He’s currently at practice, surrounded by his team and coaches, working on new routines and new tricks in preparation for the next competition. Going to answer the call Tim frowns at the caller and ID and worry hits him like a truck. This person only ever calls if it’s bad.
“What’s happened?” Tim demands immediately. He walks away from his coach with his skateboard in his free hand and stands to the side for the idea of privacy.
A nervous laugh sounds through the speaker and Tim grits his teeth. “Hey Tim, how’s it going dude?”
He isn’t amused. “Sparks, you better tell me right now what’s happened or else-” he doesn’t get to finish his threat as Sparks wisely interrupts him.
“Okay! Okay, so don’t panic.” Tim sighs, nothing good ever follows those words. “He’s fine – well as fine as can be, but on the most part he’s okay.”
“That tells me fuck all Sparks. What’s happened to Kon?”
There's a pause and Tim blinks when a scuffling noise comes over the speaker followed by a new voice. “Tim, I swear he’s fine, although he may have lost a tooth. There was a lot blood. But he’s genuinely fine.”
Tim’s brain short circuits. He didn’t hear that right did he? Did Pads just tell him his boyfriend has lost a tooth during the game that night?
“Come again?” He speaks into the phone.
“Yeah Kent’s lost a tooth and has a wicked bruise all along his jaw but he’s awake and conscious, we’re on our way to his apartment now. Are you there?”
Tim has to take a moment to breathe. Then he takes another to stop himself from freaking out. His heart is going wild in his chest and he can only imagine what Kon has gone through and what he currently looks like.
“Tim?”
Shaking his head Tim puts his attention back on the phone his hand. “Yeah, I’ll head there now. I’m at practice so I’m not far.”
“Alright see you soon then.”
The call disconnects and Tim just stares at it. Of all of the things….
He knew what he was getting into when he started dating Kon. Injuries and other mishaps were just part of the sport Kon plays, hell even his own sport comes with similar risks, however he was not prepared enough for what really could happen to his boyfriend when playing hockey.
This is on a completely different level. Kon’s lost a tooth. Oh, now he’s mourning Kon’s perfect teeth, he should have guessed it wasn't going to be a thing that’ll last. He does appreciate the heads up though, while Sparks failed terribly at telling him what happened at least Pads took over and actually told him what occurred.
Realising he needs to get moving he pockets his phone, collects his stuff and has a quick word with his coach before making his way to Kon’s apartment. It’s several blocks away but on the skateboard Tim reaches it in no time.
Using his own key, Tim rushes into the apartment and finds his boyfriend and teammates already there. Kon is settled on the couch with his head tilted back and an ice pack resting on his face. Sparks and Pads are sat on the couch and the arm chair next to him and Tim finds a third team member, Totzy, preparing something in the kitchen.
Tim ignores them and goes straight to Kon’s side. “Oh Kon… what’s happened now huh?” Tim runs a gentle hand through his hair as he takes in the damage. His boyfriend blinks at him, he clearly goes to smile and before he could he’s instantly grimacing and staring at Tim with a defeated look.
Slowly Tim peels off the ice pack to get a look at the damage and immediately hisses upon seeing the black and blue across the lower half of his face, his jawline is swollen which makes him lose any of the usual sharpness he has there. There’s dry blood dotted over his skin from where it hasn’t been cleaned off and there’s even fresh blood on Kon’s lips. Thankfully the rest of his face seems to be okay, even with the dazed faraway look Kon is currently supporting. Tim turns over the ice pack and lays it across Kon’s jaw once again.
He sighs and sits back, reaching for Kon’s hand and runs a thumb across his knuckles. Turning to Kon’s teammates Tim raises an eyebrow at them. “What’s the damage? How long will he be out for? What can I do to help him recover?”
While Tim is used to dealing with bruises or even broken bones, and on occasion concussions, a knocked out tooth and swollen jaw is unknown territory.
Pads, a man in his late twenties with short dark hair and stubble, rolls his eyes at Tim’s barrage of questions. “Tim. Relax. Kent will be out for about two weeks, three at most. The swelling needs to go down and he needs to be able to move his jaw without pain before he plays competitively again, there’s nothing broken so it shouldn’t take too long. He’s dazed now because of the shock. A liquid diet is highly advised until he can move his jaw without flinching any time he opens his mouth. Like any other time, make sure he takes his meds, ice and treat the injury.”
Tim narrows his eyes at the man. He gets this is probably common for the guy to deal with and he's probably chill about the situation now Kon has been confirmed okay by their medical staff, but his indifference of the situation doesn’t stop Tim from worrying.
Not helping his nerves is Sparks on the other side of the couch. The other man who is the same age as him snorts and looks at them with amusement.
“Kent will be fine, as Pads said, although unfortunately for you it does mean no blow jobs in the near future.”
Tim sends him a dry look and Kon makes a noise of protest. Before Tim could come up with a retort Totzy comes strolling into the living room carrying a water bottle in his hands. He places the bottle down on the coffee table in front of the couch and follows it up by removing the lid and puts a large straw inside of it.
“Bon appetite,” he says before moving to sit on the arm of the love seat. “Relax Tim, our boy here is made of strong stuff. He’ll bounce back in no time.”
Tim eyes the man before glancing at the bottle on the table. “None of you are helping,” he mutters forlornly.
He picks up the bottle and examines the contents, a sweet and sharp smell hits him and recognises it as one of Kon’s strawberry smoothies. He turns to his boyfriend and finds Kon glaring at him, and without saying anything Tim knows what he’s thinking. Rolling his eyes he places the smoothie back on the table and stops himself from huffing, undoubtably Kon wants to wait for his teammates to disappear before trying to drink anything. Heaven forbid he gets help with something so basic in front of the other men. Tim gets it, but this isn’t the time to have that particular discussion.
After that it wasn't long until the men leave Kon's apartment with their wishes for his speedy recovery. It was only then Kon allowed Tim to help him with the drink, not that he needed much help as it’s only his jaw causing the pain and not anywhere else thankfully.
Later on when Tim entered the kitchen for the first time since arriving in the apartment he blinks in surprise at what had been left on the island. He picks it up and examines it closely before pulling a face in disgust and goes back to the living room to confront Kon with it.
He holds up the little see through bag and shakes it. “Seriously? How the fuck did you loose a tooth? Don’t you wear a mouth guard to avoid this exact thing from happening?”
In the bag was a single, white, and bloody tooth. Kon’s tooth. The one which should be in his mouth but isn’t. It would be funny if it wasn't concerning.
On the couch Kon raises his eyebrows in the fashion of ‘are you done?’ before reaching over and grabbing the notepad they found so Kon can write on it as it currently hurts to speak.
‘It broke before the game.’ Kon wrote looking unimpressed.
Tim’s still perplexed. “How?”
‘Dropped it, then accidently stood on it. Thought one game without it would be okay – clearly not. Fucking typical.’
Tim sighs and runs a hand over his face. “Of all the things Kon.” He looks at the bag still in his hand and shakes his head. “Right well, you’re a rich hockey, you can afford a replacement – if you want one – so once your mouth is healed we’re getting you to a dentist asap.”
Kon shrugs at his demands and Tim can’t tell whether he agrees with what he’s saying or doesn’t care either way. Tim glares at him, he’s not letting Kon ruin his perfect smile because of this! He’ll probably look fine with a tooth gap, there’s never a time when Kon doesn't look attractive, but his perfect smile is one of the things that drew Tim from the beginning. Of course if Kon isn’t really bothered about it he’s not going to force him to have a new tooth but Tim can be pretty persuasive when he puts his mind to it.
A moment later Kon blinks at him and writes something down on the pad when he turns it for Tim to read, Tim's heart skips a beat.
‘Love you, thank you for caring.’
Tim sighs, feeling both exasperated and like he’s about to combust from the overwhelming feeling of emotions he just got struck by. While it’s not the first time they’ve shared those words, they don’t  mean anything less now than what they did the first time. Tim moves to the couch and cups Kon’s cheeks gently in order to not hurt him and presses a tender kiss to his forehead before leaning forward and pressing their foreheads together.
“I love you too. And all the questionable injuries you receive.”
Kon huffs and pulls away from him in order to write something down. Tim reads his words once he’s finished and snickers.
‘Are you forgetting how we met? I’m not the only one who gets questionable injuries.’
Tim couldn’t really argue against that. He’s just as injury prone as Kon. After all, they met in hospital when Tim had been there due to a concussion he gave himself when trying a new trick on his skateboard, Kon had been there because his brother had broken his arm.
“Touché.” Tim laughs. He sits down next to Kon and leans his head on his boyfriends shoulder and grasps his hand in his. “Fancy watching something? We have a couple hours before you can take your meds, we can watch a film, shower then go to bed?”
Kon nods and Tim gets up to get the TV remote before resuming his place next to Kon. He grabs the blanket from the back of the couch and together they snuggle up and get comfortable. Tim even lets Kon choose the film they watch because he feels marginally bad for what’s happened to his boyfriend.
======
It takes nearly two weeks for the injury to fully heal. Kon is talking normally and able to eat solid foods without an issue and regarding hockey, he’ll be cleared to play on the roster at the weekend. As soon as Tim found this out, he immediately took Kon to go and get a new mouth guard made for him, the tooth replacement is currently being made, but Tim isn’t letting his boyfriend play a game of hockey without some form of protection in his mouth.
“You’re being over dramatic, I hope you know that.” Kon huffs as they leave the appointment for the guard. It’ll be ready for the next day, one day before Kon’s first game back.
“Maybe, maybe not. I don’t care.”
Kon comes up beside him and throws an arm over his shoulder, tugging him in close. Tim rolls with it he always likes having Kon close, even when he’s being dismissive about his own health.
“Kon you complained for an hour the other day about having food stuck in the gap between your teeth, having a new guard will stop any other teeth from falling out and having a new tooth will close said gap.”
Kon chooses to not respond to that and together in silence they reach the car and begin the journey back to Kon’s apartment. Tim couldn’t help but laugh to himself at the ridiculousness of the situation, this is just the start, god knows what else he’ll have to deal with in the future when it comes to Kon and his injuries while playing professional hockey. Then again Tim could easily give Kon a run for his money in the injury department, it looks like they’ll just have to look after each other when it’s necessary.
