Note, I am finding these threads on the twitter feeds of ICU nurses who are now dreading the horrors that Roe falling will bring to their hospitals. This, on top of the horrors that they鈥檝e seen and continue to see because of the pandemic. They were already exhausted and hanging by a thread.

the writing style of the hunger games is addictive and that鈥檚 a huge part of the appeal of the novels that didn鈥檛 get translated to the screen. i always think about the stephanie meyer (lol) quote on the hunger games book where she says聽鈥渋 couldn鈥檛 put this book down i had to take it out to dinner and keep reading it鈥 and i mean, so true bestie stephanie, but here鈥檚 why.
it鈥檚 because every chapter ends in a cliffhanger. and i鈥檓 not kidding when i say that it is so flawlessly paced that you can鈥檛 put it down, but those beats are so crucial to why the book is so amazing to read. think of the end of the literal first chapter of the book:聽鈥渋t鈥檚 primrose everdeen.鈥 that is a BOMB that she drops in that first chapter, and after the introduction, you as the reader are as blown away as katniss. so, you can鈥檛 help but turn the page and keep reading!! because you HAVE to know what happens next. and how does the second chapter end? like this: 鈥渙f course, the odds have not been very dependable of late.鈥 you, the reader, are instantly thinking, oh my god, what is going to happen? are the odds going to be in her favor? is she going to have to kill peeta? you HAVE to know. so you turn the page.
the reason this works so well is because suzanne collins wrote for television and you can tell. it is my personal belief that thg should have been adapted for television and not into films, because missing those beats, even just the white space of the page, i think fundamentally warps the pacing and the structure of the novels. i know i go on and on and on about the聽鈥渂ecause she came here with me鈥 and聽鈥渋f it weren鈥檛 for the baby鈥 lines but seriously this is why peeta is a media genius, it鈥檚 because suzanne COLLINS is a media genius. can you imagine watching that on television and the screen just cuts to black and goes to commercial or the episode ends and you have to wait to see what happens next?? it鈥檚 GENIUS
furthermore, the hunger games series as a whole is divided into a trilogy, but within that, divided into three sections each. and each section ends with an even bigger cliffhanger than the last. i see these, in the world of television, as mini season breaks within the larger three 鈥渟easons鈥 of the show (that being the whole trilogy). here are the first three endings of all the sections. imagine you鈥檙e watching this on television and these lines drop, and then you have to wait several more weeks for the next installment. you would be climbing the walls for it. part 1 (the tributes): 鈥減eeta blushes beet red and stammers out. 鈥渂ecause. because. she came here with me.鈥 part 2 (the games):聽鈥渂efore i can stop myself, i call out peeta鈥檚 name.鈥 part 3 (the victor) (the end of the book):聽鈥渋 take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when i will finally have to let go.鈥 those are ALL cliffhangers and make it impossible to stop reading.
(also, we can talk about the fact that all three of those beats are focused on peeta, the one who seems to most intrinsically understand dramatic timing and using his words to create a narrative.)
anyway that is why it is my personal and impassioned belief that the hunger games should have been adapted for television rather than film, because it would have been far more in keeping with the spirit, tone, and pacing of the novels to adapt it into a serialized form rather than a 2 hour film.聽

鈥榖odily autonomy for some marginalized groups but not all鈥 will literally never, ever work. the right to abortion and the right to medical transition and the right to engage in gay sex and the right to take birth control are inextricably linked by the core right of bodily autonomy. shooting one kills them all. support others鈥 bodily autonomy or yours will be taken too

So, there's apparently research coming out now about microplastics being found in people's bloodstreams and the possible negative effects of that and I feel the need to get out ahead of the wave of corporate sponsored "be sure to recycle your bottles!" or "ban glitter!" campaigns and remind everyone: It's fishing nets. It's fishing nets. It is overwhelming fishing nets It always has been fishing nets. Unless regulations are changed, it will continue to be fishing nets. The plastic in the ocean in largely discarded nets from industrial fishing. The microplastics are the result of these nets breaking down. The "trash islands" are also, you guessed it. Mostly fishing nets and other discarded fishing industry equipment. Do not allow them to continue to twist the story. Do not come after disabled people who require single use plastics. Do not come after people using glitter in art projects and makeup. These things make up a negligible amount of the issue compared to corporate waste, specifically in the fishing industry. Do not let them shift the blame to the individual so they can continue to destroy the planet and our bodies without regulation.

nothing is funnier to me than owen lars clowning on obi wan. obi wan was a war general. he was in charge of millions of men. he's a jedi master. he was on the jedi council. he was known as one of the greatest jedi alive. he was the sithkiller. and yet. this random moisture farmer who only wants to work his farm and protect his family is like no. your vibes are randic. fuck off. and obi wan does.

i could talk for hours about everything i love about this show, but honestly i can鈥檛 stop thinking about the way ED is in love with STEDE?? like let me explain what i can鈥檛 get over, it鈥檚 the way that stede is the softer, more feminine, 鈥榳eaker鈥, more stereotypically queer coded one and it would鈥檝e been so EASY for them to make it stede who had an obvious crush on ed. like play it up that he鈥檚 a fool in love and everyone sees it except ed but they wrote it the opposite way!!! ed meets stede and it鈥檚 love at first sight!! this scary, masculine pirate captain falls so hard and so fast for stede fucking bonnet and stede has no clue!!!!! ed knows he has a crush the whole show and he just embraces it!!!!!! fuck i just love this show so much and i love that ed loves stede it鈥檚 literally the best possible thing they could鈥檝e written

star trek is great bc sometimes it鈥檚 like 鈥渢his alien culture is a transparent but hopeful allegory for race relations in the united states鈥 and sometimes it鈥檚 like 鈥渨ouldn鈥檛 it be fucked up if an alien sucked all the salt out of you鈥 and sometimes it鈥檚 like 鈥渢his story is a nuanced examination of traditional gender roles through the lens of a far flung future society鈥 and sometimes it鈥檚 like 鈥渢hese aliens based their entire social structure on an old book about 1930s mobsters鈥
