i've seen people on my dashboard reblog this thread but it has a lot of misinformation just so people are aware.

1- the use of nightshade/glaze is not to be able to completely disrupt every ai model out there, which is something the team has said from the beginning. it's a stopgap measure until governmental regulations are in place, so artists are able to share their art without getting hoovered up by plagiarists like op.

2.- op saying that only img2img is plagiarism is very telling really. no, if your 'tool' is entirely dependent on other people's work who were neither paid nor did they consent to it, that's plagiarism and labour theft full stop

3. might be true but it's still good to have a tool like glaze/nightshade that disrupts base models

4. the glaze/nightshade team never said they could disrupt existing models. they've always said it's to poison future models

5. nobody has yet to prove this though i see many people 'saying' this works. the glaze team has said resizing/blurring/etc. does not disrupt glaze/nightshade

as for max woolf's post. it was made ONE day after nightshade was released. nightshade does not work on LORAs (glaze does though). It's made for base models, and nobody can train an entire model from scratch in ONE day to say they 'bypassed' nightshade.

anyway tl;dr: yes, as any attack, nighshade will have to keep on updating as they themselves say in their FAQ, BUT IT HAS YET TO BE DISRUPTED from what it was designed to do, and it's good practice to nightshade all your images

Please be aware that AI plagiarists like OP have a vested interest in people not using adversial tools and trying to to portray anti-ai people (aka people with ethics) as fools or uninformed.

i feel quite bad for people who are convinced nightshade and glaze are going to fix the balance of power in the art world because it really won't. they're quite useless and extremely easily circumvented, but trying to tell anyone this results in you getting shouted down. buddy i wish it worked too!

hmm i was always a little bit into art, but i started taking it more seriously when i got into the hobbit fandom funnily enough. that was 3 years ago i think! i used to draw like once a year but then the brainrots,,,, and now i'm here xD

i took painting as an elective in high school, but that's it for formal art education really. i did do couple of years of postgrad in design but that didn't overlap much with painting as such so i don't know if that counts. ^_^'

i don't know why but ai in fandom spaces fills me with such rage, even more than companies using it. maybe because there's already so many fan-artists and writers sharing their creations for free simply for the passion of it and using ai to steal from them is so egregiously evil that i don't even have words. and maybe because i already know companies are immoral but fandom is supposed to be about uplifting everyone and about community.

i don't know, it just makes me want to never share any of my art or writing online ever again.

Good news, fellow artists! Nightshade has finally been released by the UChicago team! If you aren't aware of what Nightshade is, it's a tool that helps poison AI datasets so that the model "sees" something different from what an image actually depicts. It's the same team that released Glaze, which helps protect art against style mimicry (aka those finetuned models that try to rip off a specific artist). As they show in their paper, even a hundred poisoned concepts make a huge difference.

(Reminder that glazing your art is more important than nighshading it, as they mention in their tweets above, so when you're uploading your art, try to glaze it at the very least.)
