Since Ao3 has temporarily disabled guest comments due to very mean and pornographic bots, now is a very good time for 1) readers with Ao3 accounts to comment on the fics they love and cherish to make up for those who cannot leave guest comments and 2) readers without Ao3 accounts to join the waitlist and make an account!

I just noticed a recurring motif among these Sicilian fairy tales that is so incredibly well-suited for fanfic:
A princess sees a handsome young man (usually a prince in disguise) making eyes at her in the marketplace and begs her father the king to make him a royal servant, because he is so beautiful.
The king complies, because he's too fond of her to say no, and makes the hero a stable boy or gardener.
The princess now suddenly spends much more time out riding or requesting flowers, and then tells her father that the new servant is far too good for outside work and must become a servant in the castle.
The king complies, but soon enough the princess requests that the new manservant is made her personal page. By now the king is getting very nervous, but he still can't say no to his daughter.
The princess and the page manage to keep up the charade a little longer before the princess goes to the king and outright demands to let her marry her favourite.
The king gives the hero three "impossible tasks" that are meant to kill him, but naturally he accomplishes them all through trickery or supernatural intervention and the clandestine lovers get their way.
The pining, the flirting, the sneaking around, the devotion— do you see my vision?

Happy to share some of my early sewing mistakes for the benefit of others ;)
Yes, absolutely measure your arms and legs in rest and also bent so you make sure you can actually sit and move your arms. Same goes for breathing in deeply so you don't pop your buttons of your nice waistcoat (ask me how i know)
It's best to take both measurements and making sure that the relevant pattern pieces aren't smaller than the largest of those two. (Similarly, making sure your hands actually fit through the wrists of your sleeves. Ask me how i know...)
Hi, not sure if you would have any info (or if you know a blog that would have an answer)
I want to make things to wear and I can measure like, myself standing and all, but how do I know how to deal with a part of the clothes that will bend (the knee, the waist, etc.) it makes the clothes move and I would t want my stuff to break because I didn’t account for that stuff. Any tips? Does anyone worry about this when they start?
Ohni have NO idea :D
But @swords-n-spindles sews more clothes for themselves.
And @vincentbriggs is an absolute legend (imo)
Edit: forgot @badassindistress also top tier sewing stuff and knows way more than I

So apparently I never shared the shortcut to happiness that is making a lacy parasol. Let me rectify that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I found this plastic parasol in a thrift shop, I think it was a prop for a restaurant or something. Pretty, but not actually functional as a parasol (it got to 40c when i made this, i had ample opportunity to test it out).
I had lacy parasols on the brain and before I could convince myself to try and tat one, I realised I had lace too sturdy for dresses, and also this doily:

This worked so well. I zigzagged over the lace and then cut the back (an old tablecloth with a permanent stain) away carefully. I cleaned the parasol of the old glue and glued the new fabric on with fabric glue, handstitching down the edge.

It had to dry overnight, but it was done in time for me to parade around with. Instant happiness.
