Persona 1 Phone Game, ‘Persona: Anomalous Tower Chronicle’ Receives English Fan Translation

Several Persona fans have united to release an English fan translation for the highly obscure Persona mobile game Persona: Anomalous Tower Chronicle. This 2006 title is a spinoff of sorts of the original Persona, Megami Ibunroku Persona, and it’s a gameplay-heavy experience with not much story to speak of.

Players form a party of four to navigate a tower and acquire orbs in order to reach the structure’s roof. The battle system should be familiar to those who have already played the first Persona. Interestingly, this game was made officially accessible in Japan in September 2023 via G-MODE for Steam and Nintendo Switch. So, it’s neat to see that accessibility made it even more convenient for prospective Western players, thanks to the efforts of dedicated fans.

Drawing sketches Gus from Cats, original London and original Broadway casting.

Original London Gus gives off a more sickly, fragile look of an elder. The lack of facial hair to me contributes to it, at least going by photos use for references (thanks Cats fandom wiki). Stephen Tate's narrow face shape (unless it's the photo angles) helps also.

Original Broadway Gus has a fuller, wider face. So to me, he appears more of an elder whose old age is getting to him slowly with each passing day. Stephen Hanan having facial hair (unless this Gus has it for his costume design) I think contributes to said thinking.

*Given that a cover version of I Want to Hold Your Hand appears in the movie Across the Universe (2007) with change of context being about a female's singer unrequited love for her female friend who is straight, I couldn't help myself but associate the song with R.
