New dnd character just dropped!

His name is Ezra Greer, he’s a reborn/revenant scourge aasimar who’s a paladin who took an oath of vengeance.

He and most of his family died when a mine collapsed due to supervisors ignoring obvious signs that the structural integrity was failing. He was reborn/awakened when the company tried to reopen the mine, and now he has beef with capitalism.

The campaign is kind of a mix of high fantasy and western/cowboy aesthetic.

Honestly one of my favorite parts of the D&D movie was just how often they used practical effects for the non-human races. Like we almost immediately get a dragonborn that's a Dinosaurs-level guy in suit with robot face, it's beautiful.

xenk is what you get when you’re in a dnd group but you know there’s one person who really wants to join but is always busy so when they DO manage to join they’re in for one session, get to do a bunch of cool stuff so they can make the most of it then leave for the rest of the campaign

Funniest bit of the dnd movie is Xenk clearly being an NPC the DM introduced for lore and plot purposes who’s a competent fighter because of course he is, his reputation and backstory require it. But whoopsies the DM made him too powerful, the whole party likes him, and now they want him to come with to fight the BBEG which will completely and utterly fuck up the encounter balance

So instead of there being any actual plot reason he can’t join Xenk just says “I can’t. This is something only you can do.” And then walks off, never to interact with the party again because the DM just knows those little shits will find a way to use their OP creation against them

I just had a wicked idea

(Disclaimer: while having played dnd for a while now, I still am wishy washy when it comes to logistics/rules- if that type of stuff upsets you you might wanna scroll on, this is ✨aesthetic✨)

Ok so I’ve always liked the idea of a stick-in-the-mud fighter falling in love with the sticky-fingers rogue, and loving them so strongly that they eventually become a cleric/paladin of the rogue. And basically just for the chaotic rogue to be followed by their apologetic partner who radiates power because of how much they love their gremlin.

BUT

I had another thought. Let’s say there’s a paladin who’s some type of good alignment, and they push for mercy and don’t condone things like revenge, and there’s another person who is like a chaotic neutral/evil and despite these things the two characters fall in love, and on their wedding day, they inadvertently create a pact and the CN/E character becomes a warlock.

This could lead to interactions where the paladin asks the party to not seek revenge on their behalf, but the warlock does anyways.

Maybe the paladin’s deity disagrees with what the warlock does in the name of the paladin, so it tells the paladin, divorce the warlock, or break the oath to its deity.

And a sad thing could be the paladin dying and the warlock actively losing their magic that could possibly save the paladin, and when the paladin is gone, so are the warlocks powers.

I just feel like there’s a lot of ways it could be flavored and I just genuinely love this idea, also “Take Me to Church” by Hozier is *chef’s kiss* for this idea.

She’s got a battle axe, with a (non-magical) lucky four leafed clover charm on it, and a necklace with a preserved violet flower pendant, from her girlfriend.

I’m just super happy with how this character design turned out!
