"Life imitates art"
I just had a revelation.
When Oscar Wilde said "Life imitates art" he was saying that art, like the divine, is an ideal, just like how Descartes argued that since humans are imperfect, we must have a perfect cause of which we are an image, and that perfect cause is God. And with "Life imitates art", art is the perfect cause, our ideals/fantasies by which we desire to live our lives but cannot because we a tragically inhibited from being perfect and void of all moral consequences

more illustrations taken from ‘Matériaux et documents d'architecture et de sculpture, Paris, 1872-1914′. definitely recommend taking a look at it if your studying architecture or even if you’re just an enthusiast.

Salome Dancing before Herod (1876) —Gustave Moreau
“With a withdrawn, solemn, almost august expression on her face, she begins the lascivious dance which is to rouse the aged Herod's dormant senses; her breasts rise and fall, the nipples hardening at the touch of her whirling necklaces; the strings of diamonds glitter against her moist flesh; her bracelets, her belts, her rings all spit out fiery sparks; and across her triumphal robe, sewn with pearls, patterned with silver, spangled with gold, the jewelled cuirass, of which every chain is a precious stone, seems to be ablaze with little snakes of fire, swarming over the mat flesh, over the tea-rose skin, like gorgeous insects with dazzling shards, mottled with carmine, spotted with pale yellow, speckled with steel blue, striped with peacock green.” —Joris-Karl Huysmans, A Rebours (1884)

“Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one’s head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.”

New Sarony Photograph Identified
A rarely seen image of Oscar Wilde has recently been added to the series of photographs taken by Napoleon Sarony on January 5th, 1882.
Its rarity is evidenced by the fact that it does not appear to have been been published in any publicly available print medium to date, nor anywhere else previously online.
However, a proof print of it has lain dormant in the…
