Actor Choi Woo Sik talked about working with After School’s UEE!

He sat down for an interview with Star News and said, “UEE noona doesn’t have a boyfriend right now. I’m not in a relationship either, so I was happy that I’d be dating UEE noona in the drama. I dated her vicariously through my character in the drama. When else would I ever have the chance to date UEE noona? It wasn’t actual dating, but personally, I was happy. UEE noona probably didn’t like it too much, but I was satisfied.”

Choi Woo Sik also discussed why he showed so much affection for UEE during their ‘Taxi’ interview. He explained, “I don’t know why I said that back then. I think it was because I was so focused on the drama. UEE noona helped me a lot. She even led the romantic scenes. I liked all the romantic  scenes I had with UEE noona, like the kiss scene or the hug scene. I want to work with UEE noona again. If they ever make a season 2, only noona has to give her permission.”

Fool’s Love / Hogu’s Love: A K-Drama Review

About This KDrama: Innocent puppy-like boy crushes on a strong female athlete with a secret. At the same time, a cold and collected lawyer questions his sexuality. Genre: Romantic Comedy

A long time ago, someone on tumblr recommended this to me (say hi if it’s you!) and I’m SOOOO glad I listened to them! This show moved into my top 10 list because of it’s maturity of dealing with issues kdramas usually ignore, and it’s lovely and creative storytelling.

I’m going to try and do this without major spoilers because I REALLY want you to watch this!

The Good Stuff:

Gender Reversals: Beta Male Lead and strong female lead I’m a total sucker for strong female leads (we need more of those!), and I love the way the mains develop their friendship and then relationship. Hogu (Choi Woo-Sik) is a totally naive and kind guy who deeply cares for others and his happiness is contagious.

Amazing character depth: Every character has a strong back story and they’re all unique people with quirks and things they need to work on. 

Sexual harassment plot line done right: kdramas have started to handle this a little better but normally they glaze over it. This is a main plot point and it’s very realistic the way authorities around the victim handle the situation, and how it’s easy to get away with misconduct. The good news is that the victim’s support system exists and is magical (again, don’t want to spoil it) but sometimes it was hard for me to watch. #metoo

Homosexuality plot line: This particular part of the story really hit home for me, and the writers spend a lot of time exploring the person’s difficulty with dealing with his own feelings. The best part is that even though kdramas don’t seem to allow “gay” per say, it’s clear there’s a STRONG Gay/BI thing going on for SURE which i adored (In face I made the gif below - my favorite scene!!)

Hogu and the baby: This is sort of a spoiler but if you watch more than two episodes, it’s already revealed so… Hogu and the baby and SO effin’ sweet together. I mean, I don’t even LIKE babies - normally they are completely uninteresting to me (give me puppies and kittens!) but loved their relationship and how it effected the main couple’s relationship.

Serious AND funny This show handles heavy issues but has a LOT of joy.

Because This is Our First Life Writer: If you find similarities between the two stories, it’s because they were written by the same person!!

The Bad Stuff

NONE! I guess if you wanted to be picky and without spoilers, I’d say you have to like a little some slapstick comedy stylings. I usually don’t like slapstick, but I was totally cool with it in this show because it’s so special. I do have one more  issue but it’s a spoiler so… ;-)

In conclusion: Watch it!! It’s a quirky and sweet storyline with interesting topics and characters <3

Rating: 9.5/10 (this is high for me)

Handling of social issues: 8.5/10 (most kdramas get very low ratings from me on this one)

My favorite character, by far, is Do-hee. She was introduced to us as an arrogant, cool-hearted, competitive athlete, and despite the cracks we would occasionally see, kept her personal business closely guarded. But now we finally get to see her as she really is. Not filtered through the eyes of Ho-gu, whose assumptions (both positive — she’s his perfect dream girl — and negative — Kang-chul is the father and she only cares about winning a gold medal) mean that we have mostly known her from the viewpoint of someone who hasn’t always seen Do-hee for who she truly is.

But now we finally are able to meet the woman who fell in love with the adorable teenaged Ho-gu: the boy who could tell how much swimming meant to her; the boy who would share comics and snacks with her; and who, in his naturally helpful way, was able to slowly break down the walls that protect her. We see her as Do-hee, the woman who loves swimming for the freedom it gives her and not just as a national athlete determined to win a gold. We see her as Do-hee, the woman who has experienced loss and pain, and who struggles to give up this adorable baby that represents a gift of love and joy.

This is a woman who can break down sobbing in fear of never loving again, who goes weak in the knees when she kisses the her first love, who stands her ground (and wins!) against the fierce personality of Ho-kyung. She knows exactly how to maintain her composure when talking to reporters, but she cries the moment her CEO hugs her.

She’s a human being, trying to do the best she can as she makes her way in this world. Maybe not every decision she makes is perfect, but it’s the best she can do in that moment. For Do-hee to even be able to stand strong and proud despite knowing all the rumors that circulate about her (even since high school, when Ho-gu was commissioned to draw her naked), she still manages to keep looking forward and trying to do best she can. She doesn’t need Ho-gu to fall in love with her or to save her — she just needs Ho-gu to trust her. [Dramabeans]

IU: How should I put it? It’s hard to express. There’s no particular word or phrase that comes to mind …^^

I think it’s ‘oblivion’. The reason being everytime you look at a flower, it’s still as pretty as the first time you saw it.

Obviously they are the same flowers you saw last spring, yet the flowers this year still leave you in awe as if you’re seeing them for the first time.

And when this flower withers, it falls to the ground in a mess. Knowing that people will trample on it, it feigns ignorance and in that moment, I think to myself, ‘wow it’s really pretty’ and fall in love with it, so that’s why the word ‘oblivion’ comes to mind.]

IU: Flowers are strong. Even if they bloom somewhere that would go unnoticed, they have their own values. Their tenacity to bloom in time every year is beautiful.
