As a Brazilian and someone who deeply respects our Afro-Brazilian religions and their practitioners, FUCK DAVID TALBOT ALL DAY EVERYDAY 🖕🏼 And as my fellow @beekeaper said, if the show comes to adapt this part of the story I hope they do a more thoughtfull and accurate job to portray it, because here in Brazil there's still a lot of stigma and prejudice against the people who pratice those religions, there are many cases of their terreiros (aka places of worship) being often vandalized and destroyed, politicians using their powers against them, there was even the case of a Mãe de Santo (high priestess) recieving death threats on a daily basis and having to flee from the town she lived, even public figures like an actor named Bruno Gagliasso openly professed his Orisha and people visciously attacked him.
Personally, if I had my way, David would be eliminated from the show altogether. 🙃
Thank you for sharing and bringing more awareness, because yes! The subject needs to be handled with care and sensitivity should they choose to adapt it.
No one, no matter their religion or spirituality, should ever be persecuted for their beliefs, and no one should ever treat anyone with hatred or discrimination due to their beliefs either. Love and respect to you! 🫂❤️

Hi there once again 👋, if i may share some thoughts about David, now that I've finished reading TVC
I'm from Brazil, and one of my friend is from Umbanda, a religion with similar aspects to Candomblé, both are Afro-Brazilian religions, but Umbanda has connections with Christianity (more spiritualism)
My hatred for David is very personal, since he decided to come to Brazil and fuck around. So here are some extra reasons to hate him, and despite the poetic license as an author that AR had, when dealing with the culture and religion of someone else, you have to be careful, of course, she is not here anymore so whatever.
I told my friend abour David's story and the context, my friend found it offensive and disrespectful. (She has never seen or read anything about TVC)
First thing she said was that there is no way to send spirits after someone like dogs (my friend's words)
Second, no righteous group would accept David after what he did. E the spirits would not be happy with that. This is not right, and any group, Umbanda or Candomblé, that accepted David to convert would be very wrong. According to my friend the spirits would make them pay for it.
But with the context that was written in the 90s by a gringo (It's not a slur, it means foreign) author, my friend said that it makes sense why it was write that way 🙈 still not cool
btw, I didn't find it specifically when did David traveled to Rio. I believe that It was between the 50s and 60s? If it was after the 60s, It can accuse him of illegal hunting too.
I also asked about the part of the soul that David keeps talking about, my friend gave me a book about it to read lol
That's all, have wonderfull day 💕
Welcome to the official “I Hate David Talbot” club! Every aspect you just mentioned are a few (of the many) issues I personally have with David. 😅
I hope you have a wonderful day as well! 🫂💜

So I'm back to commiserate, sorry for this, I would send a aks but it became too long. It took me a while to read everything, It's not so easy to find books or cheap ones to read in my language. So I took my 3 month vacation from college to read it all. Not all, read till Merrick, then skipped to PL trilogy.
First TTotBT, I liked this one, it was a lot of fun, Lestat was really quite angry, but I think it was very good for his development in a way. He made some mistakes, r4pe twice, and idealizing himself as a monster.
Also liked Louis here. There is so good moments between them, even if it was fighting, it was good to at least see them talking, and the fact he likes is Beauty and the Beast movie....
About David, as a Brazilian, I took the hate more personally.
So there are two Afro-Brazilian religions, Candomblé and Umbanda. Candomblé has more connection with the people of Africa who were brought to Brazil by the Portuguese to be enslaved. As for Umbanda, it's more Brazilian, and it mixes with Christianity. (For context)
I think it would make much more sense for Anne to have used Umbanda rather than Candomblé. Since it constantly refers to the Christian God.
I assume that David was in Brazil between the 50s and 60s ? It wasn't a good time historically. Unfortunately hunting only became illegal in 1967, so I can't accuse David with more than one crime. I fucking, truly, hate him. and btw since lestat supposedly only kills criminals, why tf he didn't kill David. He simply confessed to be a pedo ???
I have a friend from Umbanda, maybe I'll ask her what she thinks of David's story. Probably offensive. Anyways
I really liked Gretchen, I found it curious that Louis insisted on Lestat returning to her, Is there something else there or am I just an eager shipper? Also, so sad what happend to her at the ending, poor Lestat
Overall I really liked this one, Louis waiting at the door was so domestic and cute. I also thought it was funny how Lestat just made up a story about the necklace with Claudia's portrait.
Then Memnoch, it was different, I found it interesting and I would have liked it more if it was a book independent of the TVC, did it need Lestat there? And where is Louis? He would go with Memnoch and not warn Louis??? I wanted David to explode.
I really like it when Lestat does some atrocity, like what he did to Dora's father, and speaking of Dora, oh my god... And the end, poor Lestat, doesn't get a break.
About Armand, I have a nickname for this book, here we have legislation to protect children and teenagers, and Armand's book is a penal code bingo, how many crimes can you commit to a child and teenager for God's sake.
Armand's story is really sad, and it wasn't easy, Marius is a disgusting old man honestly, I hate him too, the bdsm between them caught me off guard and I would like to un-see. I didn't really like this book, it was good to know Armand's past for sure, but it wasn't pleasant to know. And David was here again being weird and saying he liked Armand because he looked like a child? Disgusting. About Armand's children, good for him and good for them.
And finally Merrick, I hate David more than ever, firstly because I didn't want to know anything about him. And the whole witch story, but no one will convince me to read the Mayfair books. This book was detestable, I hate Lestat for turning David, for leaving Louis alone with him (in Rio). It's sad to see Louis just living for and to Lestat, Louis has no self-esteem, no life beyond Lestat and that really irritated me.
I don't care at all about David or Merrick, it's all grotesque. Regarding Cláudia, I give her every right to hate her parents. She was a little demon yes, but it was Loustats' fault, children are, in short, often reflections of their parents. And well, they got what they deserved, even if it wasn't really Cláudia.
As for the ending well, besides Hating Merrick, Lestat coming to get Louis and them having at least some moment was good. I thought the ending was very rushed, and the Talamanca was rubbish. This book is really bad, I'm sorry.
So I went to PL and I liked it, a light at the end of the tunnel. My top 3 would be IWTV, TVL and PL. I really liked. A friend told me what was important about Marius's book and at Blackwood Farm. So I just moved on. (I saw that Anne retcanoned about Rowan and Lestat, so I just ignored it.)
This book expanded the universe of these Vampires much more and I loved it. Rhosh and Benedict are like mirrors of Loustat. And I found it all interesting. And Rose's story, their second chance, even though Louis wasn't much of a part at first.
I also liked having scientists, I really like it in classic vampire literature, vampirism being almost like a disease, both in Dracula and Carmilla, and the part about them studying how and why they are vampires I really liked.
And we have Viktor of course, and apart from, the conceptual incest between Lestat's children. He is so happy with his babies. And Louis taking care of Rose too.
The whole part with Lestat cutting off Rhosh's arm was AWESOME, and Louis SMILING? Their scenes were beautiful, even if they were only a few.
And then it goes downhill again, seriously... WHY aliens... Even though the lore is interesting, but WHY with vampires, if it were just a science fiction book I would have loved it, but the vampires...
And I even ended up reading about Scientology, aliens, immortality and religion, I hope Tom Cruise finished reading the books, because this one was for him.
And you know, I was okay with polygamy and polyromance, polycule can be fun when it done right. But kissing Amel in front of Louis and making declarations of love... My limit was there, vampire relationships may be different, but if it were me, I would have killed myself in front of Lestat. I admire Louis a lot. It was a big NO for me. 🙈
And the replimoids multiplying... please... I was horrified by Darek and Darek 2, what was that. At least I laughed a lot reading it, I read it until the end because I couldn't believe what I was reading, and I'm equally outraged and shocked, seriously what the fuck was that.
And finally blood communion. I expected more from Loustat, but it was okay, not the best and not such a good and satisfying ending. But it's good that they're okay.
This book was quick and proved that Anne could have written smaller books without so much rambling. I liked what Armand said to Lestat about taking care of Louis. And I'm of the opinion that Armand is right. Lestat doesn't seem to care much for Louis, and it irritates me a lot. Sometimes he treats Louis so rudely in the other books. I don't know. But Armand is right.
And did Anne just forget about Daniel again?
Anyway, Louis is simply left aside several times, and I'm tired of seeing Lestat sticking his tongue in so many people's mouths, from Magnus to his own mother. Surprised he didn't kiss Rose on the mouth, srsly
By the way, Rose and Louis dancing 🤧, it's good to see them happy. And Loustat's final dance, emotionally. It could have ended in the dancing, but Lestat had to go stick his tongue in someone else's mouth.
It was the worst literary experience I've ever had. I'm currently finishing rereading IWTV because I convinced a friend to read it. I actually wanted her to watch the film because we are in a gothic book and film marathon, but she wanted to read it before seeing the film and the show. And it was good to reread it because some things I hadn't noticed before.
That was my experience and my lamentations , some books were good, thanks to the characters because the story itself, I'm sorry to those who like it, it wasn't THAT good or enjoyable.
one more thing: all references to Stan Rice, it's just sad. Amel being like a brain tumor on lestat, i have no words, very sad
Thank you again! Sorry for the inconvenience! 💕
Hi!!!! I have been reading your tvc metas, and they are wonderful and I want to thank you for it!
I have been struggling to read theses books, and it really help me, I love IWTV, Louis is my fav, the aspect and style of first book is astonishing, the entire loustat dynamic is fascinating. And as much I love Lestat too, I didn't like TVL, and it left me frustrated with myself and disappointed with the book. It took me weeks to read TVL, and even more months to finish QotD. For me IWTV could stand alone, the other books seem to be part of a completely different series.
Your metas have helped me deal with my frustrations with TVC, and thank you for that, because i love theses characters (some of them) and I want to know their stories, still sad due to the lack of Louis, and I will try to read all the books so that my information about it are not all second handed.
and most important, I love your blog, I love your art and your fanfics 🫶
That's so nice of you I'm so so glad!! It's so exciting when someone likes my metas and fics, I love to write them! It's especially cool if it's made the books more enjoyable!! Book Louis is my special little guy of all time and like a small weird mangey rabbit that I keep as a beloved pet even though he bites so I'm also very happy to hear that you loved IWTV!!
As pretentious as it sounds, I was disappointed that a lot of new fans coming from the show didn't really Get book Louis or make an effort to understand his character. He's....challenging (nasty and gross) but there's so much rich character building there and it makes me sad when people write him off as boring and one note. AMC Louis is a really great character and I enjoy him a lot, but I don't like sentiment that he's a "fix" for a bad character.
As for TVL, I really do love it (even though IWTV is my favorite), but I can see how the style change can be jarring. In a way, it almost IS a different series because the narrator and POV has changed so drastically. It's in the same universe, but a totally different take on it to match a contrasting personality. I think it comes across better on a second read too because you're more prepared for the switch and have more context.
I can understand being partial to one style or the other (plenty of people prefer TVL to IWTV which I understand for sure), but I hope that even if the book itself wasn't for you that you enjoyed the insight into Lestat’s character. The first two books combined make for such a fantastic relationship dynamic in top of great stand alone characters, even better than just IWTV on its own in my opinion because now we know so much about them both.
This might be somewhat controversial among VC fans (?) but I don't really care for QotD either, with the exception of the Devil's Minion chapter and the ending with Loustat. I think it really shows the flaws beginning to emerge in AR's writing, but it's SO much better than what comes after that it gets more praise than maybe it deserves. Then again, I'm extremely partial to character-driven stories, so maybe if you're a plot guy it's a matter of preference.
If you've read my metas I'm sure you know that I don't really recommend anyone read past QotD, but I also see it as kind of rite of passage if you really want to be in the real trenches of the book fandom. It's miserable and you won't be the same afterward but the curse of forbidden knowledge is kind of a unifying factor, the ties that bind. If you choose to proceed then I wish you best and hope you'll come back to commiserate later.
Either way, I'm really glad you got some value from my metas! I love some of these characters so much and I'm super happy they were validating for you as a reader and maybe enhanced the experience in other ways! I aim to provide only the best VC Sparknotes.
I always have more to talk about (in meta and in fic), so I hope you enjoy everything that's coming just as much!

firat post of the day and it's just jacob anderson proving that louis de pointe du lac is indeed lana del rey coded ??!!!
At the time when Jacob had a public playlist on Spotify he listened to Lana Del Rey a lot, was it a bit of preparation for the character since Louis loves to suffer for men (a few centuries) older?
Maybe?^^
I mean... What did Jacob say re Armand?
"Same shit, different vampire."

oh god I didn't even think of that 😭
thanks 💕
hii there again 👋
on the topic of lestat's lovers and fixations, it's always about gretchen, dora, rowan, david etc, but what about amel and alain? (I love reading what you think)
[ I know they're poly and everything but...]
mostly amel, lestat kissing him and making love declarations in front of Louis 🙈 and still asking if he heard (I couldn't handle that kind of thing NEVER), I guess there isn't much to say about the book other than what you've already written, still would like to read anything from you, and of course how this could also introduce in the show (after what they did to antoine, btw did lestat just forgot about him?? poor baby antoine)
bye, have a lovely day 💕
Hey! 💜
By vampiric definition, Amel and Alain would be considered a lover to Lestat, yes. However, as I mentioned here and here and here, it doesn’t work like that. I don’t consider Amel (or Alain) to be a “love interest” the way humans think of lovers. Technically, every being who has ever shared blood with Lestat is a lover in the vampire sense. I talked more about all that here.
As an aside, Louis is not bothered. None of that is a threat to Louis or a diminishment of Loustat. Lestat feels gratitude to Amel, because Amel helped Lestat reunite with Louis. For more on that, see here. Louis knows what he means to Lestat, and Lestat makes sure he knows it.
From Prince Lestat And The Realms Of Atlantis:
Tumblr media
We headed for a dark deserted alleyway, far from human eyes.
What do you think they were doing in that alleyway? 😏 They were making love. They were sharing blood. Lestat was giving Louis his heart and soul via the intimacy of the blood.
