Hello~! This is Jellyfish Parade, a small indie dev that makes otome games and VNs. I wanted to share our kickstarter here for our newest game, Belle Automata!

Belle Automata is a science fiction otome game. Play as Aureve [renameable], a sentient tapestry-weaving android who's been given a new life when she is purchased by a mysterious benefactor after the death of her former master. Navigate this new strange world with humans, cyborgs and of course romanceable androids!

why does Clock Zero not get licensed? It has complex story telling, good (romanceable!) villains and a heroine with a personality. I thought Aksys Games likes serious topics and a darker plot

That is one of the biggest mysteries to me as well to be honest. Especially now that a Switch Version is available I thought that Clock Zero would be a done deal for localization as it is highly praised and often brought up as a wish title by fans.

Maybe Idea Factory will bring over Clock Zero if Cupid Parasite does well since they are the publishers in Japan. So let's keep our fingers crossed that they might finally grant our wish for an english version of Clock Zero 🤞

Your walkthroughs are great! Obviously you should only keep making them if you personally enjoy it, but many people (including myself) often buy games months or years after the release date. A walkthrough posted a little after the release is just as helpful to any future players as the one posted immediately.

Thanks a lot for your insight ❤ you've shown me a new side that I couldn't even think of myself because I felt too pressured to keep up. I'll definitely keep that in mind going forward :)

Cupid Parasite & Upcoming Games

I’ve been wanting to make this post a few weeks ago but better later than never I guess.

As you can see I haven’t been able to make Walkthroughs for Cupid Parasite (yet) and I generally wanted to talk about me making Walkthroughs.

Basically the thing is that it’s pretty much become impossible for me to keep up with people that get review copies of games and things like that. CupiPara even went for the EU separate release date which makes things even worse for me in terms of when I can get my hands on games.

This might be solved by trying to get review copies as well which I may actually be able to do. I’m really not trying to blow my own horn but I do think the blog is renowned enough to potentially pull that off.

However, I am against the idea of entering such a relationship with the localization companies. People always say their opinion etc. do not get swayed due to getting a free copy but let’s be real: if you want to have a continous relationship then obviously you’ll be more likely to turn a blind eye to certain things and sugarcoat others.

I’m not sure how to explain this, but I also kind of feel like I’d be losing some of my freedom. You know, I’m not someone who’s constantly or unnecessarily talking smack about localizations/the companies and generally try to be positive/supportive. But, when the occasion arises, I do like to join on having a bit of fun and making memes when funny stuff happens. And I also want to speak my mind freely without anything holding me back.

Which brings us to the current situation. I am in no position to keep up with a lot of the other content creators. I do try my best to be quick because I know that a lot of people enjoy by guides, some even actually waiting for me to upload. But I can’t help feeling some pressure from the “competition”. And I do understand using the Walkthroughs that pop up first, really. If I were using Walkthroughs I’d choose the ones available upon launch as well.

So I am kind of stuck between a lot of different thoughts. I’ve always uploaded my Walkthroughs because I enjoy making them. I don’t want money, I don’t want fame or anything of the like. For me Walkthroughs are kind of a roundabout way of sharing my interest of Otome games which I can’t share with anyone in real life. There’s also the matter of this blog being precious to me. But especially as real life gets more intense and this feeling of being unable to keep up with other creators becomes more prominent I can’t help but wonder if there is still a place for me (making Walkthroughs) in the Otome community.

To be honest I haven’t really come up with an answer for that question yet. This post also got a lot more emotional than I originally wanted it to be, but as I started talking about the situation I guess that feelings I have been carrying with me for the past few months came to light. I guess for now I’ll try uploading the Cupid Parasite Walkthroughs at my own pace and see how that feels.

And I’d also like to thank all of you for being here, supporting me silently or by sending sweet messages.

Olympia Soirée -  Spoiler Free Review

Her entire clan wiped out years ago, Olympia has been isolated for much of her life. Now she must travel to Tenguu Island – the only person who can perform a ritual that will restore the sun to a land enveloped in darkness. The heads of each district there (Red, Blue, Yellow) lead a society governed by rigid class structures.

If she can find a mate who will help her continue her lineage and save the world before it is destroyed, she will reveal to that special someone her heart and her true name.

[Content warning]

This game deals with a lot of unwanted s*xual advances/assaults and also has (implied) s*x scenes (which are not explicit though). Plus topics such as misogyny and the opression of women.

+ Visually and aesthetically one of the most beautiful localized Otome Games. The game flawlessly transitions between scenes and, especially compared to Bustafellows which often felt very clunky, there’s just something so smooth about the experience. Some CG’s have little bits of some awkward anatomy going on but overall I really love Satoi’s style. The Character/World design and vibrant colors are pleasant to look at. And the music matches the game’s fantasy setting well and really helped to set the mood.

+ Interesting set of Main Love Interests. I quite enjoyed everyone and their interactions, both among themselves and with the Heroine, though I have no distinct favorite among the LI’s. There are a lot of sensual scenes which, if you’re into them, might be one of the game’s biggest selling points.

+ The Heroine is smart, proactive and relatable but since the game really pushes these unwanted and often unavoidable assault scenes she ended up in a lot of unfortunate situations. But despite actually having the power to repel these unwanted advances she never uses it. There are people who enjoy this kind of content and there’s nothing wrong with that. But I feel like they should have at least given those who do dislike these scenes the option to actually make use of the Heroine’s power. I’d say Olympia was a likeable Character overall and fell victim to poor writing in some scenes.

∙ An elaborate fantasy setting with some impressive world building... this game is long. Sometimes parts of the story did feel a little too drawn out (a lot of repetitive flashbacks and explanations) but overall Olympia Soirée did a good job at keeping my interest up. There are routes that do a better job at developing the relationship between Olympia and her LI than others, with Himuka getting the shortest end of the stick because his route covered a lot of story, leaving not as much room for romance to develop organically.

- ... but sometimes not elaborate enough. I can’t get into too much detail without spoilers but there’s this weird blend between the use of modern and “old” technology. Basically the overall setting never gets much of an explanation and feels a little thrown together.

- A lot of nasty Side Characters. They’re responsible for most of the unwanted assault scenes which just made them not very likeable (which is a shame because design-wise they actually look pretty cool.)

- Some parts didn’t include a translation. Hello Darkness my old friend - same as with Bustafellows there are parts of the ending that do not offer a translation. Which certainly leaves a dissatisfying feeling, especially because it’s very apparent due to the fact that the untranslated parts come up every time you get an ending and/or enter the main menu screen.

If you can lean back and not think too hard about the overall setting/some of the details and aren’t turned off by the above mentioned content warning then Olympia Soirée is a very aesthetically pleasing visual novel with a likeable Cast of Love Interests, a (most of the time) smart and proactive MC that offers a lot of sensual scenes.

For the /Bad Ending (Half Moon) you basically need to make bad choices all-around. If you’ve already seen the Good Ending simply start over from the beginning of Akaza’s Route and choose all the Options that aren’t greened out and finish off with “You’ve said more than enough” in the Chapter “Half a Mirror”. If you’d like to experience this Bad Ending first simply choose the Choices opposite to the ones seen above (marked with a dot = leads to Good Ending) and also end with “You’ve said more than enough” in the Chapter “Half a Mirror” .
