reading alone in your room at sunset with your windows open in summer while the wind caresses your skin is probably the closest thing we have to a cure for the human condition

To Whom It May Concern
It has come to my attention that some of you have been enjoying media that the OAF (Organization Against Fun) has deemed Problematic™.
This is unacceptable.
The frankly appalling behavior in question is exemplified by, but not limited to, engaging with themes not suitable for five year olds, speaking about or writing complex characters without constantly emphasizing how evil they are, and creating fanworks that do not appeal to me personally without asking for my permission or begging for my forgiveness.
Since you people do not possess my superior intellect, you have thus misinterpreted the phrase "thinking critically" to mean "analyzing and interpreting a work" instead of the correct definition "nitpicking perceived flaws". Fear not, you will be re-educated.
Aditionally, certain individuals, who shall remain unnamed, have displayed shocking amounts of empathy towards morally grey characters, or worse, developed a fondness for villainous characters who were written to be charming and dramatic. When confronted with my lecture about how villains are evil, these individuals responded with "and that's very sexy of them."
The OAF cannot let this stand.
Instead of shipping Woke™ ships with a far less interesting dynamic, there have been various attempts to normalize, romanticize, fetishize, realize and caramelize illegal ships, which should be punishable by death as it is tantamount to a war crime.
Sadly, the AO3 (Archive of Our Own) responded to my reasonable demands for censorship by telling me to "fuck off or learn to use the tagging system for its intended purpose."
I must ask all who are currently having fun in their fandoms to cease and desist.
Won't somebody think of the children.

I know this has been said a fair few times recently, but I think it bears repeating:
Pointing out how much you hate the canon is…. not a great compliment for fanworks.
Now, I’ve seen comments along the lines of “I don’t go here, but I like this!” or “I don’t watch the show, but this is nice!” that, imo, are great! It’s nice to know that the fanwork can stand on its own well enough to be appreciated by people outside the fandom. But those aren’t the comments I mean.
I mean comments like “this show is so terrible lmao. but you somehow managed to make it seem ok”, “i hate this show so much. i cant stand it. but this art is good”, “this is a million times better than what the show actually is”, and “you almost tricked me into thinking i liked this garbage show lol good job!”
I understand how it seems nice. I understand the intent. But I’m not drawing art for this show because I hate it! I’m not drawing art for this show because I want to “improve” upon it and prove to others that I’m “better” than the writers of the show (I’m not).
I’m drawing art for it because I love this show. This is my comfort show. This show is what gets me through bad days and inspires me to make art.
When I make something for something I love and put it on the internet, what I don’t want is to be told that what I like is garbage, and I think that applies for fan creators of all types (artists, writers, editors, etc) and fandoms. Maybe some people appreciate it, but not enough for it to be a reasonable assumption that they do.

so I have only seen the worst possible quality version of the latest Loki trailer (but also, thanks to the person who recorded their TV and uploaded lol, thank you for your service)
but damn, I gotta say it has piqued the interest of my primordial lizard brain who has definitely written a 1000x worse version of That Scene before XD

i think it’s really amazing how total strangers who have nothing in common but their shared love of a work of fiction will come together across distances and dedicate their time and energy working collaboratively to build an extensive, richly detailed fanon that completely fucking sucks

I gotta say underrated ways to remain emotionally distant from fandom issues:
1) have gone through the worst of your anxiety several weeks/months ahead of everyone else (also worked for the early pandemic, where I processed that this was going to be a Big Deal about two weeks before many of my friends, so when shit hit the fan I had already gotten over the hump)
2) be in the middle of a moderate personal crisis when stuff really starts to pop off
I know a few months ago I made a post about being anxious but...yeah I no longer feel human emotions, I have burned them all out of me in the fires of stress. I’ve started to see some back-and-forth vagueposting and I have absolutely no feelings. None. About anything. I feel like someone could punch me in the face (or, well, we’re all online so the virtual equivalent) and I’d just be like ‘....kay.’ Slightly concerning? Yes. But also sort of relaxing in a way. In that post I was aiming for ‘a sense of calm detachment’ but I landed in ‘shell of a human being’ which like....it works, right?
(I am sorry to anyone who is stressed or anxious, can relate, had been there, this isn’t meant to diminish those feelings but instead highlight the difference for me personally between three months ago when I was really anxious about the new waves of fandom discourse and now when I’m like ‘hm. wow. I don’t feel anything, that’s interesting’.)

me last night/this morning: oh man, can’t wait to harass the state department, really hoping to get to whip out a nice, ‘excuse me, I am a taxpaying US citizen...’ because I think that would be fun and this is the only time I’d feel comfortable using that line
me when I actually get a response from the consulate: just that meme about millennials interacting with service workers where it’s like ‘I’m so sorry to bother you, yes so sorry, if you’d prefer to punch me in the face, that’s fine too, sorry, alsopleasehelpme, but sorry that I exist’
(I can’t find the meme, hopefully you know what I’m talking about)
a fun thing I added to my to-do list tomorrow is ‘harass US Consulate’ so that’s fun XD
(aka wait until they open to call them because they still haven’t answered my email, don’t worry I’m only kinda planning to harass them. politely harass them.)

tbh a lot of my advice boils down to “hey you know that terrible horrible looming thing you’re doing your best to avoid and distract and escape as much as possible but no matter what you do it just keeps looming and looming and ruining your life”
“just, fuckign, run straight at it screaming.”

Idiots on tumblr: Okay I absolutely hate this character because *mentions personal headcanon* *Over exaggerate a moment in canon* *Mention shitty thing they did in canon but ignores when their fave did exact same thing* *More fanon content* *Say that their fans excuses real life crimes and/or abuse apologists* *Calls them a Nazi even if they have no ties to Nazism* *tags the actual character in the character tag*
Fans of the character: uh….this is inaccurate
Same idiot: Omg why am I not allowed to dislike this character. I am allowed to dislike whoever I want sweetie :)

You’ve heard of “brought characters into a situation, now you don’t know how to get them out”—now get ready for: You know exactly how to get the characters out of this situation, but you have no idea how to get them into it.
