Blessed Imbolc, witches 🕯️
🕯️ Celebrating Imbolc 🕯️
CANDLEMAS | February 1
🕯️ Decorations: white flowers, candles, seeds, daffodils, broom, cross
🌿 Incense: vanilla, basil, bay leaves, hay, straw, wormwood, jasmin
🥧 Food: crêpes, poppy seeds muffins, sunflower seeds, waffles, scones, garlic, onions, chia seeds
Imbolc means “in the belly”, and it is the time when life stirs in the belly of earth. It is a feast of lightness and brightness, but also a time for cleansing, to make way for the new. It is sacred to the celtic goddess Brigid, as she is associated as a deity with spring, fertility, healing, light and poetry.
Rituals to celebrate:
🥳 With people, have a walk outside and look for signs of spring’s return.
🍽️ In the kitchen, bake poppy seed muffins.
🎨 Get crafty, by weaving a Brigid’s cross.
💃 Dress up, using white and bright outfits to celebrate the return of light.
📜 Write in your journal, how you plan to take care of nature and the environment this year.
🔮 Meditate, about what healing means to you.
Other ideas to celebrate:
Start planting your garden.
Declutter and clean your living space to prepare for spring.
Light white candles to invite the sun to come back.
Open the windows to let fresh air in.
Make a cleansing spray to lift up your spirit.

✨ Protection spell ✨
This is the time of the year to cast protection wards around your home, so here's a simple spell you can do to keep evil out this year.
✨Instructions
Gather the ingredients - ideally directly from your garden, but store-bought is absolutely fine.
Cast a protection circle by your front door. Light a purple candle. Purple is associated with home protection and purification.
Sit and meditate. Focus on what you'd like to attract in 2024, and the negative energies you want to banish.
Add the ingredients, one by one, in a small jar. For each ingredient, spend time with it - smell it, touch it, think about its magical properties.
Once done, close the jar with the wax of the purple candle.
Extinguish the candle. Thank the universe for its protection.
After the spell, keep the jar near your front door. This will protect your home from evil and negative energy this year ✨

🌨️ January magic 🌨️
On the first month of the year, there's a lot of magic in the air - you'll find it where you need it most, at the bottom of a warm, cleansing bath or right below your cosy blanket, far away from the piercing cold outside...
–
Cottage witches
🏡 Do a proper house cleanse to get started on the new year with a clear mindset
🏡 Make a protection spell by assembling garlic, cinnamon, pine needles, oregano, rose petals, rosemary, salt and sugar in a small trinket to hang next to your front door
🏡 Start planning for Imbolc (on February 1st) by gathering white candles in your altar, or spread them out around your house
–
Kitchen witches
🥧 It's soup season! Experiment with kitchen magic by adding ingredients with medicinal properties, to start off the year in good health
🥧 While stirring, use this chant: “Cold, flu, and ills be gone. Healthy body from now on.”
🥧 Some food/meals associated with this time of year: pancakes, honey cakes, spicy food, soup, dairy products, waffles, winter squashes
–
Nature witches
🌲 January is a slow month where nature is resting, so make sure to follow its rhythm by sleeping and resting as well
🌲 Take silent walks in nature, to honor nature's slumber
🌲 Nourish your garden beds with compost or any organic material, to prepare the soil for planting anew in spring
–
Tech witches
💻 Plan your new year's resolutions in a tool like Notion
💻 If you're trying to get into a new habit, use a mobile app to check your progress and stay on track
💻 Download the app Moonly to follow the moon calendar and connect with yourself

Moon witches
🌙 The first new moon of the year is on January 11th. This is a great time to start new projects and make plans for the year
🌙 The first full moon of the year is on January 25th. This is the Wolf moon, associated with renewal, cleansing, new beginnings and starting over
🌙 With this moon calendar, you have two moments in the month to sit back and rethink your projects. I always start the year with many new resolutions and ideas, so it's great to sit with the moon and reflect whether these goals are sustainable, or whether they need to be adjusted.
–
Have a lovely January, witches.

Idea
I will enjoy this life. I will open it
like a peach in season, suck the juice
from every finger, run my tongue over
my chin. I will not worry about clichés
or uninvited guests peering in my windows.
I will love and be loved. Save and be saved
a thousand times. I will let the want into
my body, bless the heat under my skin.
My life, I will not waste it. I will enjoy this life.

✨ Planning 2024 with witchcraft ✨
Blessed 2024 to all.
Some tips if you're spending the day, as I am, reflecting and planning ahead for the new year.
🔮 Be aware that making a wish isn't manifesting. When making new year's resolutions, spend time scheduling and planning the goal you have in mind. Manifesting only works if you dedicate energy and time to it.
🧹 Clean your home to get rid of old energies and make space for the new. I like to start from the room that is furthest from the entrance, and make my way to the front door.
🛁 Cleanse yourself with a bath/shower ritual. Use scents of rose and lavender to attract love, lotus and cinnamon for success, or eucalyptus and mint for health.
🃏 Use Tarot to prepare for the new year. My favorite readings for New Year's Day are Past-Present-Future, or 1 card drawn for each month of the new year.
💌 Write a letter to yourself, to open at the end of the year. Be specific about who you hope to be then, while keeping in mind compassion and self-love.
🌛🌝🌜 Play with the rule of 3. In magic, the number 3 has strong properties and can be really powerful. Use it to write down 3 main goals or 3 habits you'd like to tackle in 2024. Check this post where I am using the rule of 3 to plan a magical year.

« But she was not afraid of the moon because she was better adapted to the moon than to the sun and in the darkest dawns, with her eyes wide open, she would see the mysterious moon in the sky. Then, like people who take sunbaths, she would bathe herself completely in the moonlight. And she would feel thoroughly cleansed. »

🎄 Blessed Yule, witches 🎄
Winter solstice
As the winter solstice, Yule represents the darkest and longest night of the year, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. Witches view Yule as a time of introspection, renewal, and spiritual rebirth.
In essence, Yule serves as a spiritual reminder of the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth, encouraging everyone to align themselves with the rhythms of the natural world and find spiritual meaning in the changing seasons.
Rituals to celebrate
🕯️ Light a candle or burn a Yule log to reflect on the warmth and hope that light brings during the dark season.
🌲 Decorate your altar and your home with evergreen branches, holly, mistletoe, and other symbols of life and continuity.
❄️ Take a silent walk in nature to connect with the winter landscape.
🎁 Engage in acts of kindness or community service to share the abundance in your life.
🍲 Prepare a Yule feast and share with loved ones.

« I started seeing the monstrous feminine everywhere, and, eventually, I found empowerment and agency in those representations. These female monsters did things I could only dream of, or didn't even know I dreamed of doing. They could enact all the anger and rage I felt toward patriarchal society, and then some. Horror can be a way of healing. We all dream of being a monster, and those dreams don't have to be bad ones. »

And when the sun rises we are afraid
it might not remain
when the sun sets we are afraid
it might not rise in the morning
when our stomachs are full we are afraid
of indigestion
when our stomachs are empty we are afraid
we may never eat again
when we are loved we are afraid
love will vanish
when we are alone we are afraid
love will never return
and when we speak we are afraid
our words will not be heard
nor welcomed
but when we are silent
we are still afraid
So it is better to speak
remembering
we were never meant to survive.

🌛🌝🌜 Harvesting the power of the Triple Goddess
It's been a while, witches...
If you're like me and feel a bit burned out in this end of year, here's my idea to revive your spirit and get some much-needed energy back before 2024 starts.
🌛🌝🌜 Let's harvest the power of the triple goddess in the last 3 weeks of 2023.
🌛 Morning
Harvesting the power of the Maiden, which represents enchantment, inception, expansion, the promise of new beginnings, birth, youth and child-like enthusiasm.
Activity: 15 minutes morning meditation to reflect on the year, where you are today, the day's goals and challenges, and where you want to be next year.
🌝 Day
Harvesting the power of the Mother, which represents ripeness, fertility, sexuality, energy, fulfilment, stability, power and life.
Activities: daily act of creation, which can mean anything to you and your life - spell-casting, exercising, dancing, knitting, baking or cooking, crafting, decorating... The only requirement is that it is something you do just for you.
🌜 Evening
Harvesting the power of the Crone, which represents wisdom, repose, rest, death and endings.
Activity: ending the day with a book, to extract wisdom from other people and perspectives, and going to bed early, to feel rested and recover from the day.

Slow down, you crazy child
You're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart tell me
Why are you still so afraid?
Where's the fire, what's the hurry about?
You better cool it off before you burn it out
You got so much to do and only
So many hours in a day
But you know that when the truth is told
That you can get what you want
Or you can just get old
You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?
