Oops
Hey everybody, I made a mistake. I was so excited to start writing about my second female character in all of her black girl magic-ness that I rushed the 2nd chapter of this story and posted an update last night that did not come close to doing her justice. This may sound dramatic but in my head my characters feel very real and as crazy as it sounds I feel like I owe this character more than what I posted. I was gonna just suck it up and roll with my mistake, but after sleeping on it, I woke up this morning and decided to retract it. So what does this mean? Basically, some of you may have seen/read "Chapter 2" before it was retracted & if you did then you saw a major cliff-hanger moment. Not a spoiler really, just something pretty intense. I'm gonna ask you to pretend like you haven't seen that scene yet, okay? We'll get back around to it, I promise, but first I need to build out these characters a little more so that it's a better experience when we get there. Part of the reason why I'm experimenting with this fanfic in the first place is to strengthen my writing so I owe it to myself to recognize mistakes, figure out how to fix them & make the story the best that it can be. A new & improved Chapter 2 will be posted soon. Thank you so much for helping me pretend like this never happened. 😉 And thank you for reading. A preview as my thanks
A huge THANK YOU to all who read Chapter 1, liked, reblogged and sent notes. For me, writing is an old love but overcoming the anxiety of sharing it with the world is something new. Your feedback is pushing me forward!
By the end of the night, you’ll meet the second protagonist, Josie, in Chapter 2. Until then, here’s a visual of some of the “starring cast” and a preview of the upcoming. The only catch: any of this could be altered by the time the full chapter is published.

PREVIEW: Chapter 2
JOSIE
Luxury.
It’s the only word I can think to accurately describe my surroundings. Located in Manhattan with views of Central Park, Auntie Tina’s apartment is breathtaking. And busy. I digest the scene, feeling like Annie when she visits Daddy Warbucks for the first time.
Floor to ceiling windows wrap a dining room that’s roomier than my whole apartment back home and wood parquet floors shine like they’re polished on the daily. A massive white and chrome dining table sits center stage, bathed in the orange-ish light of a setting sun. It’s art deco, matching a pair chaises to its left and a grand piano to its right.
People scurry, some dusting, some wiping, all in a rush. The smell of gumbo hangs in the air, a cherry on top.
“Mama’s upstairs getting hair and makeup for tonight. Come on and make yourself at home while we wait. You’ve been cramped up in one of those little bitty Manhattan hotel rooms since… when? Yesterday?” Solange moves past me, smiling big, her aura as bright as her colorblock wrap dress. She tosses an expensive looking purse onto one of the chaises and steps out of her heels, stripping herself of accessories that look like they cost ten times what my simple olive t-shirt dress and black combat boots do.
“The hotel was fine,” I say. My voice sounds as small as I feel right now. I kick myself for the word choice but I feel awkward elaborating. That room was way more than “fine”.
I’ve never slept in a bed so soft.
Wish Cami could’ve felt it.

Thanks so much. I’m actually glad to hear you have lots of questions. I intentionally dropped several bits of foreshadowing in Chapter 1, so it looks like you may have taken note of some things that will be answered soon enough. ;-)
