Don’t confuse my hatred of the hyperwealthy for jealousy over what they have. I don’t want a six figure sports car, or a 40 room mansion, or a gold leaf truffle wagyu steak dinner. I want redistribution of wealth that allows for infrastructural support of all citizens’ basic survival needs.

There's a trend on TikTok about white Americans fighting back against white Europeans who say they're not allowed to claim their European backgrounds and while I'm all about about white Americans getting in touch w/ their ancestry...
I become incredibly frustrated at how uneducated they are about that alleged ancestry. Every time I see the term "Scots-Irish" I can feel a blood vessel pop because they think that means Scottish and Irish and it's like they don't know what the fuck they're talking about or the history or geopolitics involved. That's Ulster Scots and they're colonizers in Ireland. ❤️

What fuels u to keep using tumblr
Okay I could write a 20 page paper about why this place is more desirable than other platforms but :
Chronological post order
No influencers or corporate personalities
Aggressive monetization & marketing strategies don’t work here
Nobody knows how many followers you have (this is a good thing, trust me, if I had it my way, you wouldn’t even be able to see the number of likes/comments/shares of a post without being its creator)
General anonymity - no pressure to share personal information but the option is always there
Recycled content, this website’s like the radio of social media. Old hit posts from the early 2010s regularly come back in circulation, and trends here actually have staying power. The trends are also organic and not made to sell a song or popularize a product for exactly 1.5 months like tiktok trends that everyone rapidly forgets.
Unlike with Twitter, faceless accounts here are undeniably real people sharing content they like with no incentive to promote products or brands. If somebody gives general advice here, you can be almost certain that it’s not sponsored (and therefore biased toward a certain solution)

So my grandfather is in the hospital sick with Covid.
He’s old, with many heart issues. His body is so weak, his doctors said he couldn’t get vaccinated, in fear that the side effects of the second dose would be too much of a strain on his heart.
He’s that sick and old.
He lives on O’ahu. He can still remember the small towns that littered the islands, he told me of the Hōkūleʻa and the restoration of our culture. He taught me Hawaiian words and he taught me how to yo-yo.
Throughout the whole pandemic he has been stuck in a concrete apartment. Like many Kānaka Maoli, he lives on the poverty line. His concrete has four windows and one bedroom. His living room and kitchen are one room. And he has a shelf below his tv for canned food. His apartment is small. It’s filled with pictures of my Tūtū and quilts she made. My aunt buys him groceries and he goes to treatment every Wednesday.
Tourists kept visiting O’ahu throughout the pandemic. Travel was shut for awhile, but it never lasted. Tourists flocked for getaways as the world crashed and burned. The rich wanted to see islands to escape their homes. They wanted to stay in hotels to escape their lives. “The pandemic is stressful to us all” they said. They took hikes and went to restaurants and flaunted their wealth .
And Native Hawaiians got sick. The pandemic disproportionately affected my people, Kānaka Maoli.
Do you know why?
Hawai’i has the second largest homeless population in the nation. Recent studies suggest over 60% of individuals experiencing homelessness in Hawai’i are Native Hawaiian. When you don’t have access to proper medical care or hygiene, you get sick. When you sleep in the streets and when tourists throw their garbage at you, you get sick.
When you are old because your people are dying out, you get sick.
There are only around 600,000 Native Hawaiians left. Only around 200,000 still live on our islands.
My grandfather is one of them. One of the last. Old and over 70% Kānaka Maoli (a rarity due to colonization), my grandfather is one of the last who remember the old ways.
And he’s dying.
Because tourists flaunt their wealth. And bring their greed and illness.
He talked to me today on the phone, just for a few minutes. He sounded weak and he said he loved me, and I shouldn’t worry about him. He was looking out for me, even as he lay sick in an over crowded hospital. He worried for me.
And when we hung up. I cried.
If you vacationed in Hawai’i durning this pandemic, If you sought paradise on the breaking land of my people, I want you to know that you personally helped kill my people. You personally helped put my grandfather in the hospital.
You have personally helped along the slow genocide of my people.

picture this: you are a sheep herder or something 2000 years ago. you think its a boring day like any other. you hear the loudest sound you have ever heard in your entire life. you see 40 elephants stomp through your little village in the alps. you try to explain what you have seen to your wife. you say they were big and grey and had horns on their face. she does not believe you. you never see anything that big again.

Take it from the biochemist who used to work with vaccines:
1. Some vaccines will keep you from getting sick: measles, mumps, rubella, etc.
2. Some vaccines won't keep you from getting sick, but it will keep you from dying: COVID, flu, etc.
3. Some people can't get vaccines, or vaccines don't work for them. They are a tiny percentage of the population.
4. Side effects from vaccines are normal.
5. mRNA vaccine technology has been around for 20 years. It's not *that* new.
6. Vaccine cards have been around for a very long time. You'd know that if you traveled to certain countries, or looked it up on Google.
7. I'm getting tired of saying all this stuff to people. At this point, I don't give a flying fuck what you believe, grow the fuck up and just get your fucking vaccine and/or booster shot. But if you insist on being a selfish asshole, stay the fuck away from me.

what really fucking bothers me in conversations about racism and saying that some work has racist elements people always counter with "I don't think the author had deliberate racist ideology in mind" cause it's like that doesn't fucking matter. it doesn't have to be deliberate to be racist. most people don't go hee hee hoo hoo I'm gonna put racist things in this. everyone was raised in a racist society and covert racism exists and yes needs to be examined in ourselves and everywhere and yes even in works you like author "deliberate" intent or no
