just watched Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doin’ the Twist and….. there’s no way that they casted a guy that looked and talked exactly like jess and then had rory think of jess immediately when louise asks if shes “still with her boyfriend” (despite louise having NEVER even MET jess) and then have the deanrory phone call at the end almost exactly parallel the literati phone call in A-Tisket, A-Tasket. theres no way they did that. did they know how insane it would make me. how did i never see this before. jess haunting s4 rory always and forever why won’t you go away why won’t you leave me alone and all he’s been doing is leaving her alone and going away but he’s stuck in her head he’s in her brain she’s always thinking about him because she’s trying to not think about him. okay.

I know it's natural for people to have favorites and preferences, but sometimes it weirds me out the way some people talk about their favorite female character from Gilmore Girls like they're pitted against each other? there is a huge difference between criticizing an institution and criticizing individual behavior. i can criticize the makeup industry without criticizing the 14 year old girl who uses concealer because she’s self-conscious about her acne; i can criticize the plastic surgery industry without vilifying the woman who decided to get a nose job after two decades of pointed comments and bullying. it is intellectually dishonest to respond to an institutional criticism as if it were a personal attack; on the flip side, it is cruel and unnecessary to leverage personal attacks in the name of institutional criticism

Jess has so much backstory and depth to his character that’s like never really looked into ever?? And I get it, it’s not his show; he, like all of the other boyfriends/love interests in the show, is used to further the Gilmore girl’s characters and relationship between mother and daughter. But like there was so much potential. So much that they were planning a literal spin off!

But the potential to dive deeper into his backstory and character are in an effort to show how lucky Lorelai and Rory got (in a various ways).

Don’t get me wrong I love his character in GG how it exists currently, but part of me will always wish that he was used to be a view into something more than just a bad boy phase for Rory (which I can argue is not even really the case but that’s a rant for another time).

No we can argue all day on how shitty a boyfriend Jess was, and how “he’s not the right one for Rory”, but at the end of the day Jess is fundamentally a be of the most complex and compelling characters on the show.

Ugh I have so many Jess related rants just waiting in my back pocket, and maybe this post opened the floodgates for more of them, who knows.

In show where the characters all see each other as everyday people but are all fairly clear cut characters of themselves (let’s make it clear that this is not a criticism of that, it one of the reasons why the show is so lovable), Jess is the character that seemed the MOST surface level at the beginning but had some of the most incredible development and character background is the show.

Bottom line is that I love the character of Jess Mariano

FIRST AND FOREMOST can we talk about how no one remembers that jess's mom literally sent him to an uncle he'd never met because she "couldn't handle him" and how he was just expected to say it was it is and move the fuck on like he didn't just leave his home, friends, and everything he ever knew and im speaking from experience because I've moved like 6 times and hated my parents each time for it because it's the worst experience and ESPECIALLY when everyone in the town already hates you because you look a certain way and he was fucking 17 like guys any teenager with family issues would act like that tf?? and he didn't even do anything THAT bad because i know for sure if rory and Lane had stolen money from taylor for shits and giggles lorelai would've defended her and SPEAK OF THE FUCKING DEVIL lorelai hated jess so much for absolutely no reason other than the fact that (AGAIN A TEENAGER WITH TRAUMA) said something mean to the queen of stars hollow and obviously we all know that she hated him because she WAS him but even that i dont agree with 100% because jess had it so so SO incredibly worse, like no father, mother who married so many guys and divorced and lost all of their money and house which probably made them homeless A LOT of times like lorelai obviously had family issues but jess had it worse so she can't really act like she gets him because she doesn't.

and everyone likes to bring up the fact that he got mad when she wouldn't have sex with him and he literally didn't???? what show are you watching tf and his character development UGH ITS SO GOOD the high school drop out whom known has ever believed in is probably the most successful person in his whole family and that's why ladies and gentlemen (i still have so much more to say but i cant write it because my brain is faster than I type) jess mariano is the best character and best everything in the show
